  1. I only came across Bryn through the forums and the Lakeside one in particular. Apart from his very helpful weather updates the main thing that came across was his passionate defence of his local club which seemed to offend one in particular. I didn't always agree with Bryn but It was his willingness to confront what I considered to be bar-room bullying tactics from that poster that gained my admiration for him. RIP Bryn.
  2. Just hope it won't be a Warren Scott cameo ride
  3. What a refreshing change! A newcomer to the scene uses a very basic tactic to focus interest in their team. Just a daily drip drip drip to whet the appetite. And there's even interest on the Lakeside forum. It'll be interesting to see how rigidly they stick to their Saturday schedule when faced with appeals from weakened teams.
  4. If Greg wants to save his reputation at this stage in his career I would suggest he holds his hands up now as there's a good chance that by March it will have blown itself out. If he doesn't I can see even Kelvin and Nigel being tongue tied to describe him as a highly respected elder statesman of speedway.
  5. Sorry for not taking this minority sport as seriously as I'm supposed to but my emphasis on triviality surely fits the bill. It now appears that our track curator preferred Poole to his original track such was his judgement that his presence at Arena would not be worthwhile. Sorry for causing confusion but the playoffs are an irrelevence and my club has shown that it was nothing more than an achievement to get there. BV won the league. I hope they win the Sky playoffs too. PS Our impartial team manager will be at Monmer (sic) Green
  6. Let's get real. Sophie probably travels in the van with Scotty and maybe even Chris too. Add to that the fact that the manager of the away team will be commentating and you can see what a cobbled up job this is. I'm still amazed at Kelvin's neutrality but now I can add to that the fact that Scotty doesn't look at Sophie when being interviewed. Fantastic TV Oh the speedway -----------------
  7. For those who weren't there the track was not in poor condition as has been said by a high profile person. A couple of Swindon riders got crossed up but so what? Lawson hit a grippy spot on turn 1 and Bridger had his usual moment at the same place but who knows if that was the track or his Jawa? The ride of the night was definitely Ht13 when Doyle proved - to me anyway- that he's come a long way from the falling off guy. The meeting was already lost but team riding wasn't going to stop him. As for the next meeting:JC said he had the choice of Scotty or Craig Cook as guest last night so I see a very close match. Incidently has Kelvin tried to tell his riders to go back to the start line without attention before a rerun?
  8. It's amazing that despite the changes in personnel Lakeside teams don't like wet tracks So look at the lineups and decide which riders are more likely to be up for it.
  9. This playoff madness is now showing how pointless it really is. The real winner has to go into a competition against the also rans who can take advantage of foreign leagues completing their fixtures to bring in ringers. That's effectively what they are. So the playoffs are nothing more than another competion.
  10. I think they both do a good job but having heard the commentaries on Speedway Gold I couldn't believe it was Kelvin who IMO sounded more relaxed before the cliches took over.
  11. So that was Coventry Bees was it? Lucky I was at the theatre actually being entertained. And all because the teams have to cram in the fixtures for the big finish! The nonsensical playoffs
  12. I don't understand track preparation and I do know that stock cars produce deep ruts but why does the track have to be slick? Where does all the surplus shale go? As it happens Coventry won on the night anyway but it wasn't their usual track and maybe Swindon were expecting something different as well. Certainly Chris Louis was.
  13. FWIW as an outsider the inspiration you're missing is Simon Lambert.
  14. Very good rides by Craig Cook. During the grading he was talking with AJ. I wonder if he was being told how the ride the track because he pretty much followed AJs wide line from then on. So it can be done if you try Lewis Kerr tried it but ran out of track but persevered. As for Robert, was given a kick up the a**e because he looked a different rider? I've never quite understood how he's kept his place for so long. but he looked better tonight. Is it a case of EL or nothing?
  15. I bet Arena is one of Zagar's favourite tracks and he's just gutted that he can't be there to help out his team
  16. And thanks to the fixture clash we won't get the opportunity to see if Ben Morely is an improvement on Rob.
  17. Tai said his bike was not set up as he would have expected but it worked. Did his pit crew advise the rest of the team because the form of King and Cook seemed to change?
  18. If Team Revolution are trying different things then let's hope they settle on something soon for Lewis' sake because it looked as though he suddenly lost power on turn 4 when he was flying. Agree about Robbo. He even did well from 15 metres. Great to watch even if it's for the other side. PS compliments to the interviewer for getting more from Richard than the usual TV blandness. We had his recent marriage, where he lives between Purfleet and Glasgow and even his new engine he bought from AJ. and its suitability on both tracks. It might not be Newsnight but it's a bloody sight better than "I've made some changes so let's see how it goes"
  19. Agree with everything said about Freddie. To see the guy who busts a gut in the GPs looking like someone who is just turning up to fulfil the fixture was dissappointing. I think after spending years with SKY Kelvin has learned to be a diplomat. He knows what not to say in interviews. I'd love to see Robert Mear make a modest leap in performance at home but it just doesn't happen. And to see his mechanic topping up the fuel on his spare bike and not noticing it going straight on the floor doesn't instil much confidence. If Southend's finest gets a chance that'll please the interviewer at least but he couldn't seem to get Lewis Kerr to expand on his great joy for riding in the glorious county of Essex. Perhaps he could have asked something more searching like moving from a semi works Jawa to a GM?
  20. Has Tai our most successful speedway rider in recent times ever been mentioned let alone nominated on BBC SPOTY?
  21. Superb GP good track and unlike the views of earlier posters Suzi Perry showed a class missing from previous presenters. She knows about speedway and motorsport in general just as the other top anchors know about theirs. And Scotty just maintained his usual high standard. This isn't some low budget stock car or tractor pull meeting. Speedway needs a top class presentation and if it can't get a mention for an event like this what chance is there? BTW does anyone know if Tai got an invite to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year or even got a mention?
