  1. So to be clear, you never saw langton ride in his peak (I.e. prewar). I think his record makes quite clear that though domestically he may still have been strong (though in 47 he had dropped a couple of points off his average) he didn't get close again to lifting the tirle.
  2. To take on a slightly different tangent, and to borrow customhouse's idea from snother thread. pick 4 4 man england teams to do battle in world team cup format. team a - one time world champs team b - world runners up (never chsmp) Team c- finished 3rd but no higher Team d - never a medalist my teams collins lee price tai parker langton split waterman jessup j louis c louis forrest tatum carter morton farndon n boocock team a to win, from b then d I reckon. team b the hardest to pick with the likes of simmons, wigg and crutcher worthy of consideration. peter collins to top score with a fine maximum.
  3. Got my professional body monthly journal in the mail today. It had an interview in it with boris johnson, where he was advocating reciprocal freedom from work restrictions between britain, Aussie and nz. Obviously he's not currently in a position to influence such policy, though the article did point out there are currently approximately 200000 aussies and 30000 kiwis living in london. I think his views probably echo those of a number of people, who are fine with immigration from australasia but less ok with bulk immigration from eastern eu countries.
  4. I think kelly was 17 when he finished 4th on debut in 79. By the time he was 23 I think it was apparent that he wasnt going to fulfil his potential, and he almost died when 23/24 in 1986 after a drunken accident. As you say, kelly had great charisma and was universally loved/admired. interesting is the story in his biography about rivals getting him totally pissed the night before the 81 inter continental final, and him scoring nil the next day to miss out on wembley. Darcy is one of the few riders more exciting to watch than jellyman, and arguably has less issues witj alcohol BUT the level of professionalism is higher now. Hopefully he sorts himsrlf out, and is battling with emil and tai for yhe title in 2016. edit: got his dob wrong. kelly was 19 not 17 in 79. But by the time he was 23 he had still clearly been "overtaken" by penhall, sigalos, carter and the young danes.
  5. 25 years takes us back to 90. Sam won in 93? Knudsens medal was in 81, but I based his inclusion on form in last 25 years. But if medal had to be in that period put sullivan into team c, and knuden replace harris in team d. Still think a comfortably the strongest team, close between the others but would say d the weakest.
  6. Ermolenko jonsson Jan o gollob adams hampel s moran nilsen Emil nki todd wiltshire Knudsen ward Zagar Hans andersen harris! top scorers: ward emil gollob ermolenko jano team a to win
  7. Agree in some ways rob. But if I were picking a side to beat that tough Scandinavian side, I'd rather have darcy in my team than phil or billy or todd.
  8. Exactly. Its a bit like saying kenny carter was better than peter collins because he had the better head to head record against him .
  9. Adams ahead of those three imho, though I really hope darcy fulfills his talent, because he has the potential ti be the best aussie ever. adams like sanders finished twice on the podium, though I doubt billy (or phil) would have managed that under the gp system. Adams has topped el averages which phil/billy never did, won numerous gps (phil/billy didnt win too many major events that I recall), a world u21 title. Also multiple world cup titles, though in fairness phil/billy didnt have the support to replicate that. Adams is often mentioned as one of the best not to be world champ, neither sanders or crump quite fall into that catrgory.
  10. Langton was as close as u can get to a world title without winning it. Kitchen tbh never got close.
  11. had to smile at that abbreviation of my username, in maori that would be pronounced "f#cka one".
  12. Darcy ahead of sanders or p crump surely? Or are you assuming he is still suspended?
  13. he was welsh surely?Would have morton and carter ahead of wigg and louis. edit: sorry already pointed out above
  14. Mauger moore briggs J crump young bluey wilkinson holder
  15. no. Clearly not all top sportsmen cheat. But surely that list shows that your argument that someone being naturally talsnted is proof that they dont cheat is flawed?
  16. who would you say he has been misguided by?
  17. Exactly: tiger woods, lance Armstrong, carl lewis, linford christie, diego maradonna.. do u reckon they were any good starry?
  18. Would have hamill and ermolenko as the reserves ahead of autrey (my number 8) and chitty.
  19. Nielsen gundersen olsen t rick fundin knuttson n pedersen Michanek edging out jano and jonsson for number 8 slot
  20. Hampel plech gollob plechanov sayfutdinov jancarz samorodov kasprzak and g laguta others of the modern generation that seemed worthy of consideration.
  21. Tommy jansson based on potential close to making the side?
  22. wow, this is one of the strangest posts I have seen on the BSF. Which is saying something!
  23. Tbh would rate persson, jimmy nilsen, andreas jonsson and possibly others ahead of jan andersson.
