We will be there with our Reading Racer Zagar tops, Union Jack and Slovenian flags. We will be on the exit on bend 2 by the fence and out the front of the stadium having a beer beforehand. Staying in Zagreb on Friday night, Brezice saturday and heading to Gorican for the meeting on Sunday.

We have stayed at Holiday Inn before near the train station, very nice and a top breakfast too. Only thing i could fault it for was it had a small bar area and staff were a tad slow on the refills! Radisson has a nicer bar area.

World Cup To Be Staged At Reading
J-D replied to scabby3's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
No as until the back straight is sorted and that has to be done by the landlords Stadia UK it cannot be confirmed. I personally would expect it to be confirmed by the 8th March at the P&P day as the many media will be rathered at the stadium. -
World Cup To Be Staged At Reading
J-D replied to scabby3's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It was confirmed by JP at the Reading forum last night that subject to the back straight stand being removed / opened up then there is a good chance the play off and final will be held at Reading this year. He believes Reading have a safety certificate for 7000-8000 people. -

Gb Get Speedway Wc Final 2006!
J-D replied to Brightonbob's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
'If' someone brought Reading out the bare minimum to run EL the new promotion will have to buy and install an airfence say £30000 with current fence underneath upgraded to Bunyan standard. Track lighting would have to be uprated for Sky say £5000 and Electrics rewired say £2000. This would be the bare minimum so realistically with an increase in rider costs i cannot see how it would be worth the effort. Only benefit i see in taking over now is if a certain promotor wants the new stadia built to his requirements therefore runs at Smallmead as well as helping design the new stadia. -
Hans Andersen Statement
J-D replied to Subedei's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I agree Hans should have been included but i believe like Jesper Jensen he is not a golden boy in the Danish set up and they pushed for Iversen instead. -
Gb Get Speedway Wc Final 2006!
J-D replied to Brightonbob's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I agree but makes you think how sub standard Smallmead has become, why would anyone even consider trying to run EL from there, it would take at least £100000 of improvements for that to happen, for what two years max before the new stadia is ready, why would anyone waste that kind of money now? -
Gb Get Speedway Wc Final 2006!
J-D replied to Brightonbob's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Hmmm, i cannot see it being Smallmead somehow, where do we start? Insufficent size pits Fence not currently set up to take an air fence No back straight stand so reduced capacity Limited first aid centre Lack of VIP area One turnstile Poor track lighting Limited Media facilities and broadband connections Dodgy electrics Poor track equipment Generally shabby surroundings. Swindon and Poole would be my choices and i know JP loved the last time Poole staged it. -
Must admit i thought Nancy (Hans Andersens nickname at Reading) would have got a place over Iversen but given the influence of Ole Olsen and the departure of Jacob from the scene maybe he was not a favoured Danish son. If Bjerre had not got injured i think he would have got the Danish nod. Protsiewicz was always an outside bet for a place given his sponsors input into the GP series and the need for another Pole in the line up. Zagar being young, Slovenian and a dam good rider was always going to get a spot after his performances as a wild card. I think BSI has picked 3 riders that are hungry to be involved in the GP series and have the right attitude to succeed.

Just came across the Canterbury Crusaders Website and unlike most defunct tracks see that it looks like the Stadium was knocked down and not built on. What were the main reasons behind speedway closing there, and any chance that someone may build a new speedway stadium there? who owns the land? Looking from overhead photo like there is not lots of housing about.

One of my fondest memories with Wiggy was standing by the pits at Oxford in 1994 when Sheffield were the visitors. Jiri Stancl Jr was riding for the Tigers in one of his first appearances in England. He was wearing some bright green leathers, very much like Simon used too. I commented to him about the leathers and he quibbled 'Jiri needs to learn to gate as they help to dazzle the back markers!’ JD, Reading

I remember reading somewhere that Russia had expressed an interest a while back to stage it. Crowds are on the up there but cannot see the Western riders putting up with a week over there. Also crime is still rife which is not good for travelling fans.

Czech would be a good call, i could handle a week out there with all that nice beer....

Got a good deal on the Holiday Inn by the railway station for the GP last year and must say very impressed. It was the best hotel breakfast i have ever had, which is saying something. The Radission seemed nice too and had a very nice bar area. If you book direct with them, they guarantee to be the cheapest. If i go this year will probably stay there.
-
I stayed there last year too, for the money i can highly recommend it. Taxi ride into city was only about £4. They have a bar onsite too that is very reasonably priced too. Stayed in M hotel before and for the extra money it is not worth it. Next time i go back i will use the Resort again.
-
Total tosh he does not even ride in the EL so could not get injured there! He is fit and healthy. He has the GP to do next weekend. I think it was a piece of fantasy Polish journalism.

GP of Slovenia wild cards
J-D replied to tomazpozrl's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Izak Santej i believe is (or was until recently) the track record holder around Krsko and a local hero. The amount it costs them to host the GP and i understand have run small losses the last few years, then they are entitled to pick who they think will get the most crowd through the gates. I agree there are better riders about, but from a marketing point it is a good move by the Slovenian promotion. -
Brought it again at Reading last night, showed it to a few people and another two who had not brought the first two issues went and got a copy. It certainly hits a note with the thirtysomethings....

Gothenburg City should be OK, JY3003. That's the one I'm going to. Just make sure you have some change for the bus journey into the city. Very basic airport (or cattle shed as it looks like it once was).

Who's going to Slovenia for GP in Krsko ?
J-D replied to tomazpozrl's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yep, i will be there, i had such a good time at the gp last year. Flight was only about £39 when i booked in March. Still have to sort out hotel however. -
