Great reply backless. I've been trying to point that out since the talk of Stead started. Doyle no 1 sommerset and no 4 Swindon scoring well. Barker no 1 Plymouth and no 4 Birmingham scoring well. Auty no 1 Scunny and no 2 Birmingham scoring well. Stead reserve Swindon only scored well in 2 meetings at end of season. Not sure how people are looking that Stead in going to be a solid no 1 for Sheffield. Roynon is scoring well in the middle order at Coventry and he's a 7+ rider for Worky where as Stead would be 9+ for Sheffield. Also I thought we only wanted riders who rode for the cause of Sheffield, not ones that wanted extra rides and cash to help him at Swindon.

Thursday's for me and my dad and my 7 and 10 year olds, along with their friends who I try to take every week. We've NO chance of going Sundays!!!
-
There's no way to put anything on the Facebook page unless the specific topic is put up which it hasn't. Not really getting the fans opinion reading what the five or six of us have wrote on here. Another load of twaddle if you ask me. With such a change I would of thought the safest thing to do would be to find out as much as possible whether or not it was going to be a good idea or not. My worry is it could be so bad an idea that we may not see speedway at Sheffield after next season. Hope I'm wrong!
-
Hoggy is quoted saying in the speedway star that the move to Sunday is just in the discussion stage and would like to hear what the fans think. Has anyone been contacted as I can't find anywhere that the fans have been invited to express there opinions on this or any other matter
-
Cue ball I'm certainly not suggesting that Stead is the answer, in fact I'm pretty much the only poster on here who doesn't want Stead. Sorry for any confusion. Only thing I will say is how can Stead be a proven rider at prem level when he hasn't rode prem level for years. And I agree if we're changing to Sunday to accommodate him it could be suicide for the club. Suggesting Stead is definitely going to be an out and out no 1 because previous reterning riders did is....well.

What's the point winning 4 points away then loosing 3 points at home the next week? You should aim to win all your home meetings( home track advantage and entertain your fans ) then pick up the occasional away win against the lower teams. Look at the facts, Scunny this season. So Niemenen isn't a no 1 because he's an 8+ rider but Stead who hasn't even turned a wheel in the prem league yet is because he's 9+?? I think there's a lot of over expectation on how well Steads would do. I personally doubt he will retain a 9+ point average at the end of the season if he rode for Sheffield.

1. Your teams top rider? Joe Haines 2. Your teams most improved rider? Ricky Wells 3. Best match witnessed? PL Final for pure tension 4. Worst match? Sheffield v Glasgow 5. Did your team do better or worse than expected? As expected! 6. Best fans to visit? Leicester, loads of colour and noise 7. Best track(other than your own)? Scunthorpe, racers track, full of overtakes 8. Worst points of the season? Passing of#RICO, rain, injuries, Sheffield's very poor tactical decisions!

Spin king I think your teams what I was thinking, but unfortunately it looks like the number 4 spot would be filled by Hall, as it said in the star 3 riders will be retained from this season. And they couldn't include both Hall and Franc due to long track commitments. After the slagging off Franc got mid season I think it's safe to say Hall will be returning. Agree with squall that Hall is entertaining, but better riders will just block his line as Auty did Monday. And his team riding in non-existent. Whilst he's bombing round the boards he NEVER looks back to help out his lower averaged team mate. End of season Averages now on BSPA website. 1 Stead 9.20 2 Haines 5.04 3 Wells 6.47 4 Hall 6.89 5 ???? 7.49 6 Lambert 4.41 7 Sarjeant 3.00 Options at 5= Masters 7.43 Doolan 7.29 Bjerre 7.31 Grajczonek 7.44
-
1 ??? 2 Haines 3 ??? 4 Hall 5 Wells 6 ??? 7 ??? Fill in the gaps. Possibly Stead at 1. I'm guessing two from Lambert, Sargeant and Jake Knight at reserve.

Instead of guessing and speculating, why don't the promotion make a survey up and put it on the website for the fans to fill in. There's 1542 people like the website through Facebook. the majority will be Sheffield fans and a few just general speedway fans, they'd get an opinion from fans who go every week and ones that only come with there travelling teams. If they have us put what age group we're in they could find out what different age groups want, finding out why the 'younger ones' don't come. People could add there opinion what could be done to promote the club, what they'd like to see, what day they would prefere. They could have fans select there choice of team for next season, they don't have to follow it but it would give them an idea what riders the fans want to see and why. Seems a no brainer to me. And I'd expect it would add to the people following the site just by allowing the fans to be more involved, so extra promotion for the club. If they mention it as a post on here and mention it in the Sheffield star section I'm sure the website following would certainly grow.
-
I'm sorry but I agree, I have seen nothing of any promotion apart from the signs outside the stadium and a section in the Sheffield star. I took 15 mates who work at the cable ski inside rother valley country park which several had been to owlerton to watch the dogs and none of them knew speedway was there. Maybe a lot more is done than I first thought but if Tigers fans themselves arn't noticing the promotion of speedway what chance is there that none fans are going to see these and want to come. You can always do more!
-
Well said speedway Dan. A lad at my work drives past the stadium 10 times a week for the last 2 years and doesn't know speedway was run there and i've been with friends to the dogs and some of them didn't know speedway was also at Owlerton. There's so many different ways and areas the Tigers could be trying for new fans, asking for existing fans to put posters up mid season just seems lazy.
-
The stadium owners surely won't give up Friday or Saturday for the dogs as they'd stand to loose to much. Sunday, people have commitments and family time. Monday most people's first day back at work doubt many would fancy going. So Tuesday or Wednesday, although these nights don't clash with other teams much, I just think the change will loose more as people have their routine set to speedway on Thursday. Bad idea changing in my opinion! Had a tweek to my teams with latest news about clubs and Joe signing. On current avg's. 1 Grajczonek 7.44 2 Skiddy 6.13 3 Masters 7.43 4 Hall 6.89 5 Wells 6.47 6 Haines 5.04 7 Sarjeant 3.00 = 42.40 Can't imagine any team lineup beating us at home. And feel we could pick up wins away, that's how leagues are won. Skiddy and Haines could swap positions as avg's change. Haines to cover Sarjeants rides if struggling. Can't believe I picked Hall but feel in this line up his away form would be covered.
-
I'm grateful to Machin and Hoggy for the time and effort they put in to run Sheffield, but I honestly feel there losing the plot this year. I'd see it as they'd loose more fans if they changed the regular race night from Thursday. Surely they isn't much choice in this because of greyhound nights. They want to bring in more young fans but put the price up for kids this season. I feel all promoters need to get away from trying to get the old fans back and concentrate on getting fresh new fans through the turnstiles. Then when the atmosphere changes the old fans will return.
-
Great to have Joe Haines back for 2013! If we could start him at reserve again would be a massive boost, especially if we have a new 3 point rider so Joe can cover if he's struggling. And it would free up more points for 3 genuine heat leaders.
-
Hi OdsalBoy, i'm fairly new too. Just looking at your team above. I had Ricky Ashworth as my number 1 in my first choice team but i think he will be back at Berwick. Not sure what the situation is with Ben wilson but i doubt he will be back in the team after this years poor team and especially after a year out. I think Sanchez is a better rider. I also think Skiddy, Hall and Haines will be back along with Wells if the rules don't change. Along with a new number 1, could be Stead after a few posts on Twitter. I'd love young James Sarjeant to be given a chance as it would be great to have a local Sheffield lad to support. We may even uncover a new jem once he's had a few meetings in the team, and he looked fantastic at the under 19s. As far as the 'if they all click' i think we need to get away from this idea as it showed this season that it very rarely happens there's usually at least one that has an off night. I think we need a strong home team, like the few seasons before 2012. Aim to win all our home meetings and pick up points where we can away. So your team was a 'what you expect next season team'. If you were building with 42.5 points limit who would you like to see in Tigers colours?
-
I heard a rumour he was interested in Buxton....
-
It seems Skiddy is one I'd like back and Rambo one you'd like to see return. Probably best to agree to disagree haha. I'd be happy with most of the teams I, you and others have picked so far. Can't be any worse than this years selection. I've said it before and I'll say it again...just no Jakobson!!!!!!!! Still believe Hall, Skiddy and Sanchez will return along with Ashworth if Berwick fold(Hope they don't). Next agenda.....New manager or stick with the comedy duo??
-
Thanks SCB I believe it was confirmed about a week ago. So let's look at my unrealistic team compared to yours. Stead, a huge risk at 9+ points and not confirmed by rules if he'll even be able to double down. Haines, has said he'd like to return, both got this rider although I have him at the reserve with a chance to score more. I've gone for Skiddy at 2 whos an asset. Bjerre, wanted by many teams and has over seas commitments compared to the available mr Grajczonek. Birks, Scunny fans and promotion love him he'll be back there as he's there asset, capt and on the way up. North might be the most unrealistic in my line up, but moaned about being at Ippo on Twitter for first half of season and changes club every season. Masters, both got him. After being dumped by Somerset the PLRC riders champ might fancy some stability at Sheffield. Wells, confirmed in Star/Speedway Star he'd like to be back. Irving/King/Rambo, Fair enough Rambo would probably like a return. But we might as well bring asset Jakobsen back instead of the other two. Please god nooooo! Sarjeant might be a risk but so was Birks last season and who wouldn't want him back? Can't find a new jem if we keep going with the old guard. Don't know who owns him but they surely wouldn't stop him getting a Pl ride. Who's is more realistic? It's only a 'what I'd like team' I still expect Hall, Skiddy and Sanchez back.
-
Grajczonek is available. North seems to change teams every season. I think both are more likely than Bjerre being signed.
-
As in mine isn't realistic??
-
Just think Stead on over a 9 point average is going to be a bad idea. He has struggled to beat riders with averages a lot lower than his who also ride in this league. Keeping Haines at reserve to start with...surely a huge advantage. I had Birks in my first choice but I doubt he will be anywhere but Scunny. Irving/King, come on....seriously! Rambo fair enough but I think he's only ever gonna be a reserve, we need some ambition next season. What about 1 Masters 2 Skiddy 3 Grajczonek 4 North 5 Wells 6 Haines 7 Sarjeant/Jacobs I reckon Hall will be first name on team sheet anyway. Which will make the promotion look like idiots having slated Franc in the press and program about his long track commitments.
-
1. Simon Stead 2. Joe Haines 3. Lasse Bjerre 4. Ash Birks 5. Sam Masters 6. Gary Irving/Jason King 7. Simon Lambert No thanks!!!

I went to Scunny last night and have been to every home meeting since the bank holiday double header. I don't go as a fan of Scunny as my heart is with the Tigers. I go to get an extra fix of speedway as the season comes to an end. I have to say we are so far behind them!! Every aspect is better. The atmosphere is brilliant, the track is set up so the riders can race and over take. They have a team built up of young exciting lads. The crowd make so much noise(often at the referees box). Every race is built up to be the best on show. And the fans are kept informed of every detail of the club, transfer talk, fixtures, injuries. Hoggy and Machin were there again last night, I hope they took note because we've got some serious catching up to do. Well done Scunny! COME ON THE TIGERS!!!
