  1. World Final was a one off, not shown live on TV and arguably the sport had bigger stars and following in the 80's. GP's are like a Circus, televised live and perhaps more of a show/event - but for me don't have the same sparkle of a one off Final. I love the way the tickets are advertised with xx% saving on the previous years price - which had gone up by the same xx% the year before. Who are they trying to fool - saving my ar53! My beef on prices isn't just the cheapest tickets, sat in the gods, are £29 but that all prices have increased to silly levels. I attended every Cardiff GP from 2002 to 2011 and initially sat lower tier near the starting gate (paying more than £29 a seat!) then moved to middle tier because of price hikes. BSI have seen fit to increase prices in recent years despite world financial turmoil since 2007 - taking the P? To be fair I have reacted the same way to every other company who have tried to increase their prices in recent years - I shop around, look for better value or alternatives.
  2. Rip off given these cheap tickets cost £19 a few years go!
  3. there won't be an Elite League next season! Time to say good bye to the GP stars and get back to regular meetings, lower costs and races with all 4 having a chance to win!
  4. Is that a dodgy site? It doesn't look like the normal one! Whilst it's a good meeting prices are a rip off.
  5. Will tomorrow's meetings be shown live via online streaming? Does anyone have a link?
  6. Merge the EL and PL then charge £12 including 8 page race card/mini program on cheap paper. Need to give the promoters a chance of making some money! Track rental, medical cover, stewards take up a huge chunk of the admission money, will need to get rid of over paid Heat Leaders (perhaps a wage cap or income/wages cap could work) and reduce/stop flight re-imbursement. Do nothing and the sport bleeds to death!
  7. so true but not good for the sport in 10-20 years time - not enough youngsters watch the sport. Be interesting to know the average age of supporters, I think it might be close to 50!
  8. Spot on! I think it's fair to say what's left of the hardcore are too embarrassed to promote by word of mouth - no wonder Speedway is on it's knees!
  9. This should be a cracking meeting - it always surprised me the meeting wasn't covered by Sky as part of their GP package. It falls on the August Bank Holiday Weekend so it might be wise to book up hotel/B&B accommodation early to avoid disappointment. We've booked in with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution who have their Colllege in Poole. They have rooms available to the public with all profits going to the RNLI. THe accommodation is only a short walk from the track. Trip Advisor carries good reviews - worth a look.
  10. Awesome! Well done to all involved. I had a quick look at the history - was looking for mention/pictures of Barry Thomas. Barry taught me to ride a Speedway Bike at his Iwade Training School in the late 70's.
  11. I would also imagine the Panthers didn't want the two rider in the top 20 restriction and would have opted for a strong top 3 this season. With Panthers having five in the top 20 is it any wonder the other promoters decided on this ruling? Perhaps the BSPA should have purchased the 3 riders Panthers could not use this season!
  12. Might not be a bad thing. Not sure there'd be a significant loss of sponsorship as those who put the money up often do so because they love the sport or want to support a local team.
  13. I'd like to see clubs reduce the size and cost of programs - I don't need a 32 page glossy staked full of adverts for 3 quid - whats more pens don't always like glossy pages! I want an official race card/program I can write on, no more than 8 pages and I'd like it for a quid! If the track has got a lot of advertising make it bigger but don't charge me!
  14. Bad feelings all round for sure! I wonder how much of it kicked off at the BSPA Conference when the 2 rider in the top 20 rule was put in place? Never mind Peterborough you only had 5 riders in the top 20 and it seems you were planning to use 3 of them in 2013. Did the BSPA pull a fast one? Was the decision in the best interests of the sport or one that suited those who who don't put their money where there mouth is?
