Agreed. Team manager said at the time of signing young Sam that nothing was expected of him in 2024. so onwards to 2025 when as you say he needs to be beating his opposite number especially at home. Lets hope he comes back from Aussie up and running. To state the obvious, Lions need a strong no. 6 to make them competitive in heat 2 and a big hitter 5 especially for heats 13 & 15. I write as a person of pensionable age who considers himself lucky & fortunate enough to have had a career with associated remuneration/pension and investments to comfortably afford retirement....as I say, I am both lucky & fortunate. Now onto my post inspired by the the points you have made which appear to be both insensitive and inaccurate. Please consider that the vast majority of folk retiring in 2024, started work back in 1974 (with folk over 66 starting work even earlier) when types of pension schemes were limited and yes, the state pension was a sum which was considered & promoted to be sufficient to live on. That said, many larger companies did provide a contributory defined benefit scheme based on accruals of 1/70 or if you were lucky 1/60. Of course many of these schemes are now closed as a result of the disappearing business's with the funds (if remaining) managed by the Pension Protection Fund offering fixed rates of income that are not in line with final salary. This scenario currently effects some 9.6million folk which is 74% of current pensioners. So although many folk had made provisions in addition to the state pension they have been greatly affected by the collapse of such schemes with little time left to make up via other means. Conversely, there is no "myth" about civil servants/local government pension schemes. Example, The Local Government Pension Scheme is a salary related benefit scheme (not affected by stock markets/investment fund performance etc) based on 1/49 accrual rate with employees contributing 25% and the employer 75% of the required contributions. This is a long established and exceptional scheme in comparison to anything available in the private sector and one of the main attractions to working in local government and similar public sectors and as previously stated - no myth.

A nice idea but unfortunately, the dreaded VAT needs to be considered too. A £23.00 admission would actually generate £19.17 for the club. A £10.00 admission would actually generate £8.33 for the club. Following your assumption of a 1200 attendance (all adult) the reduced admission fee would result in a drop of £10,000 in income. This means that an additional 1200 adult attendees would be required just to reach the original income figure based on 1200 attendees at £23.00 less vat. Frankly no accountant/business consultant/speedway promoter would see the idea as a worthwhile risk considering their fixed costs such as riders wages (home & away), stadium hire etc would remain thus putting a huge risk/burden on the scheme immediately being successful.

Is it a matter if time (not sure how long that is) before Rugby B.C. serve a section 21 notice on Brandon Estates? Could be a good way to get the area cleared at no cost to future promoters/owners wishing to bring the sport back. Or at least force Brandon Estates arm to consider selling given that to clear the site will be significant cost.

Its difficult to imagine, why UK speedway promoters believe they can disprove the saying, "if you keep doing what you've always done, then you will always get what you've always got" - and grow the sport whilst still serving up the same old......"speedway, the family sport" concept. They have, for many a year failed to add (or even provide) value to the show they put on, whilst nearly every other sport has, be it improved facilities, different formats, world class social media etc. The result, Cricket, golf, football, Rugby and more all report increases in attendance & revenues whilst speedway struggles to (survive) significantly grow its fan base . All these sports regularly increase their admission prices and sure some fans may voice their discontent, but the the sport thrives. In the great scheme of things £22.00 is not a great deal of money to spend (neither is it insignificant) but if a person only has that type of discretionary amount available, then it comes down to choice, and the event providing the most perceived value for money will more than probable, get the nod and for many, that is not UK speedway.

Ah My apologies. however the situation would still remain because of at least two reasons. 1.The PZM would not nominate Russian born Riders ahead of Polish born. 2. (More importantly)The FIM are highly unlikely to instigate any move designed to circumvent one of their own rules.

You may have meant CCCP which of course ceased in Dec 1991 so hardly relevant in 2024. As for Croatia possibly offering to issue two Russian born riders licences to race international events, well if they did (apparently now confirmed), why not go the extra step and bless them with nationality as well (Tongu in cheek)

There is not a hard allocation of riders per nation. Now the Gp’s are up and running the qualification process is established via previous season finish/Gp challenge & FIM nomination. The question people are asking this year is why the Russian born riders were not nominated. And so the circular argument begins.

Yes the ban was introduced after the invasion. To compete in race events,All motorcycle racers (not just speedway) have to be in possession of an appropriate license issued by a national governing body affiliated to the FIM. As such there is no “neutral” body in existence to issue licenses. The FIM are happy for the Russian born riders to compete under a license issued by PZM who in turn choose not to nominate/endorse the Russian born riders ahead of Polish born for inclusion in events associated with GP’s. Incidentally, The ban extends beyond riders to also include officials such as referees, machine examiners & suchlike.

Because the circumstance leading to the FIM introducing the rule (the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine) is still in situ.

Absolutely "spot on". Although it is fair to say, two of the "picks" for next years GP are far away from being the best available, and that's aside from two riders of Russian decent.

Surely all tracks are gate n go given none are “gate n stop”. And despite popular opinion, at all tracks, the rider who leads the heat after the first lap actually does go on to win the race.
