Sgp Riders' Numbers
ColinMills replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
why are the in favour brigade soo over the top in there views?..i don't see this as any big deal, but say, if the riders want it let them have it.. if a young fan follow there rider, theyl have plenty options with "brand number"...1 in England 507 gp 3 in Poland etc etc speedway don't have the fan base for this kind of thing, but as I say, let the riders have it, and if they get more money, fair play! -
yep, know what you mean, I just loved watching him and the banter..but yeah, agree he wasn't a top 10 rider

if this makes the riders more income, it will be good for them, but personally, I don't think the sport is big enough, and not yet perceived by the mainstream as credible.... whilst at Cardiff once a yr, a few caps/tshirts may be sold, on a normal league fixture, id doubt on average, no more than 2 items would be purchased on a weekly basis...... id suggest, the powers that be, need to start attracting at least a half page coverage on a regular basis in daily newspapers, not just gp weekends, and until speedway results appear on end of news, id suggest this sport is a long long way for this sort of move.. but as I said at start, if this creates finance for the riders, then who could complain? -
those cards "may" work at wolves where crowd foced together, but most tracks it certainly wouldn't work, and when 5.1s are won in a strung out race, it also has a different effect in celebrations
-
whats with the age?........start marshalls could do with a bit more power id suggest

think you know its not what I meant

think the old ht 8 double tactical rides against numbers 2 and 7s created great races for me, when they outgated the top riders..as more exciting than this joker rule nowadays -

darcy racing understrength riders don't excite me much, it was the rush to the turnstiles where you got john Louis racing ole olsen in ht 1 or michanek racing Wilson etc -
cant agree with that.getting pts for losing is ridiculous

there was a pre match anticipation, with that speedway smell, rules EVERYONE knew.. -
I recall ole olsen especially coming to your track, penhall, lee, etc, riders that would get you talking before entering the stadium, another thing we don't have today.. will woffys world title get local newspapers hyped up when hes in town?.......don't see that happening, but tracks where hes appearing should jump on the bandwagon nowadays

never ever questioned ivan"s ability..professionalism at all, and agree hes a utter legend....only stated he was up on the rolling. alongside ole olsen -
can to a point see it at gp level, only because the girls are professional and in step,,,,,,but lge level looks very amateur

ss like everything, can be improved upon..i recall getting the ss as a kid and trawling through it to cut it up (sorry pr) to make scrapbooks, was great when you got your fav rider in colour..and was good when the whole back page was full colour picture..also think as a spectator, pics were better with riders in individual colours, before team colours emerged, for me, lost a bit of colour from the sport...I guess it was for the neutrals, but again, just one of those lost things in speedway -
im neither for or against, but not sure what it adds to he meeting, it surely don't attract a single customer in through the gates, I wouldn't of thought
-
simple question..what is the point of this?

would take issue with mauger as a great starter..(although he was), but the rolling starts over the tapes is a totally different concept than today.......and im takikng nothing away from him, it was the rules at the time, and he mastered it..great rider, never brilliant round foxhall though! theres riders that were never the best gaters, and never really changed throughout there careers..bonus like Morton and the likes as made better racing, think Jessup was electric -
