Edinburgh V Berwick (ko-cup-2nd Leg) 25/7/14 @ 7.30pm
me2 replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I wondered how long it would be before the track got it. The fact is that Doolan, and Harrison have years of Armadale experience. Wethers spent almost his entire career there and Liam Carr has a bit of experience and did well with three points. Jensen has the least experience and top scores. Go figure, but whatever you come up with, blaming the track is a cop out. I don't know what went wrong for Berwick tonight, but it sure as feck wasn't the track. -

Garrittys ability isn't in question and I don't think his temperament is that bad normally, it was just a frustrating night for him and it boiled over. There can't be many riders who haven't lost the plot at some point in their career. Bringing up Sneddons past is a cheap shot and shows what ignorant, spiteful little non entities will do to make themselves feel important. Still I suppose coming on here makes a change from playing with yourselves in a dark room. Gets you out and that. One day you might even get to a Speedway meeting. -

I thought Garrity was just trying too hard in his first couple of rides. He was pretty wild and getting nowhere. You could see the frustration building and someone was always going to cop it. It just happened to be Sneddon. It could have been anyone. He's had some good meetings here and usually scores well so he knows his way around, but he was over doing it and at times looked downright dangerous. I was on the start line and only saw Sneddon take him on the inside of bend 4, then as they passed us there was a bit of contact, but we couldn't see exactly what happened. His reaction was way out of proportion, but it was more out of frustration than anything Sneddon did. One finish from four rides says it all about his night. I wouldn't take it any further. He came off second best with his antics on the track, and in the handbags after. He needs to learn not to take his frustrations out on others. His poor night was down to himself and nobody else. Deek was just the scapegoat. -

I wasn't overly impressed with Garrity last week at Glasgow, but Armadale seems to suit him and I can see him doing well. Rye House usually put on a good show here, regardless of their form elsewhere or at home and I don't think they will be a pushover. I'm looking for a home win, but not by much. -

I don't think the promoters had any option other than to call it off. No conspiracy theories, ulterior motives or hidden agenda's. It just wasn't possible given the delay getting an ambulance, the track ambulance and doctor having to leave the track, the handover time and then getting them back to the circuit. There just wasn't time. The promoters had no choice. I accept that. What I can't accept is that the situation should arise in the first place. It seems most clubs run with one ambulance and one doctor, which is the minimum the rule allows. The fact that it's never happened before at Workington shows that it can happen and it can happen anywhere. They are just one 'unfortunate incident' away from a call off. They're running meetings with their fingers crossed. In a sport at the mercy of the weather and every team suffering multiple rain offs, do we really need another reason to call a meeting off? Medical cover is expensive and most clubs can't afford it. The reason they can't afford it is because there aren't enough bodies coming through the gates and that's because they've driven them all away and it's pretty much the diehards that are left. Customers are hard to find and easy to lose. The casual fans can watch Speedway on SKY, Sweden and the Grand Prix on Eurosport and Poland on the Internet. If there's a rain off, they change channels. I've a bee in my bonnet because it's the second time in as many months I've spent a small fortune travelling to meetings that haven't happened and as someone suggested, I'm going to draw a line under it and move on, but don't expect to see us at Workington or Peterborough anytime soon. -

The long drawn out parade was even worse for us, as being total tools, we rocked up to Ashfield at half two. Doh. Enjoyed the meeting though. Hopefully Wolbert can kick on from here. A good, solid team performance. What more can you want. It was a long day though. What was the reason for the later start time? -

Trust me, we've had some delays. As for the twenty odd miles, I was pointing out to workyboy that Armadale isn't in Edinburgh as he seems to think. I know exactly where St. John's is, I helped build it. As for doing Edinburgh a disservice, I'm pointing out that they are no different from many other clubs in that medical cover could, in certain circumstances become an issue as happened on Saturday and has happened elsewhere. I find cancelling a meeting in those circumstances unacceptable in what is supposed to be a professional sport. The spectators were let down. I've supported, and through my company sponsored riders, mainly road racers at club level at Knockhill for more years than I care to remember and to pull a meeting due to lack of medical cover is unheard of in that branch of Motorsport. And they're amateurs. There are multiple ambulances standing by. How they fund them I don't know, there's very little money in club Motorsport, but they do it. The riders and organisers are experts with the begging bowl, but only among sponsors. Never, ever do they turn to spectators for funds or burden them with their financial woes. I love Speedway, but the way it's run, on a wing and a prayer scares me. -

Armadale is twenty odd miles from Edinburgh. It's a village that would fit into the Derwent Park car park. We are in pretty much the same position as Workington when it comes to medical cover. We hang about for ages waiting for an NHS ambulance to arrive, or wait for the circuit ambulance to return from the hospital and it's more good luck than good planning that we haven't had to cancel a meeting. It seems most clubs do the absolute minimum to comply with the rule regarding medical cover, which quite rightly covers getting an injured rider to hospital, but nothing more. Clubs won't want to change because it will cost money that they don't have. The Workington statement that the call off was unavoidable isn't strictly true. It was unavoidable on the night, but could have been avoided with better medical cover. But nobody except Newcastle and Plymouth it seems can afford it. It's just another sign of a sport dying on its @rse. -

It should be noted, the England v Italy game wasn't t called off when the England physio done his ankle in. Dangerous Motorsport, high risk of serious injury, inadequate medical cover, punters short changed, promotion not a penny out of pocket as the mugs have handed over their cash. Just another night at the Speedway. We'll be back because were Speedway supporters. Well I'll tell the Workington promotion the same as I told The Mickey Mouse outfit at Peterborough, no we damn well won't. Four of us spent over £100 in their premises last night and were chucked out two thirds through a sporting event because THEY didn't have adequate medical cover. And that's not including fuel costs. They mess up, we pay. I didn't want to depress myself by counting up what the Peterborough farce cost. At the risk of sound like a broken record, if I run my business like speedway, I'd be laughed out of town. And bankrupt. When I mess up, I've no mugs to bail me out. The begging bowl round the customers doesn't work in the real world. Home meetings for us from now on, although I fancy a trip along the M8 to watch the auld enemy put one over Rye House. Things might not be going their way right now, but weather permitting, they know how to put on 15 heats and I could watch young Anderson ride all day. Best wishes to Kyle for a speedy recovery. That looked a mighty sore one. He seemed to catch his foot under his engine. Don't know how bad it is, but the poor guy was in agony. -

The doctor had to accompany Kyle in the ambulance and wouldn't have been back for at least an hour. Once he's administered morphine, he has to stay with him. No doctor, no racing. -

Jeez guys, you dropped points at home in a match you could have won. Three of your riders only scored six points between them on their home track and your biggest concern is Cook went to the pits without French kissing the winner! Good to see your priorities are in order. Concentrate on your own shortcomings and let us worry about the petulant one. Yours sincerely Mr Smug Headinbra. -

As one of those who travelled from the Scunthorpe meeting and booked and paid for a hotel room in Peterborough, I'm not much fussed about the reason for the call off. **** happens. It's how you deal with it, or in this case don't deal with it that's important to me. 'Sorry for the delay in informing the travelling support' would do for me. I don't want blood. I also don't want to be treated like a doormat. This isn't how you treat your customers. -

me2 replied to scotchopper's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The reason for the call off needs clarification, but surely their priority, having called the meeting off, should have been to inform the Edinburgh promotion, who could then have have informed their riders and travelling support at the earliest opportunity and stopped them travelling any further. Why wait two hours? What were they thinking? I'm not going to count up what it's cost me. I'm angry enough as it is. What I will do though is make sure Peterborough Speedway never get another brass farthing out of me. It won't bother them, but it might make me feel better. Apologies, I appear to have used 'priority' and 'travelling support' in the same sentence. What an idiot. I'll never learn.
