Somerset V Wolves Friday 5th May 19;30
Yampy replied to Wolfsbane's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I know it is quite often not a simple as changing the night, but if Somerset didnt race on a Friday then they may pull the top riders in for the fans to see.. Goes back to the old issue of having all Premier Division Speedway on 1 night, I know that there are issues that currently prevent this from happening but it would be so much easier if each league in europe had their own designated night, sadly cannot see it ever happening. -
He's too high i think, 7.92 is it?? He's too high i think, 7.92 is it??

In my humble opinion, the 3 Heat Leaders will remain in place. The only change I could foresee in the main body of the team would be Adam Skornicki if he doesn't pick up points pretty quick. The worrying thing is that with Belle Vue home and away, and Harris and Nicholls here with Rye House followed by Kings Lynn, there are a number of tough meetings over the next few weeks and points will have to be battled for.... Now even if there were changes.... Skornicki, Clegg and Greaves give Wolves 13.82 points at the minute with 0.06 left over gives a total of 13.88. I'm not sure what happens with the averages after they change but who could you bring in realistically that would improve things at the mo??? Three riders who do well round Monmore are Ricky Wells, Ty Proctor and Rory Schlein but Ricky's average is higher than Sqora's. Rory Schlein is slightly less but doesn't leave much to play with for the reserves. Ty Proctor is hit and miss on 6.68 but potentially worth a shout...

Oh dear.... Adam Skornicki's points tally at Berwick today does not help to inspire confidence..... lets hope his pre-season cobwebs are sorted soon

Like a lot of teams, the Belle Vue team looks like they could be great, IF they all perform..... One thing that I think is great about the league this year is that there is no stand out team because of the all the different scenarios given that nearly all teams have riders who could either be really good or be ineffective. Wolves = Skornicki & Howarth, Rye House = Nicholls & Watt, Poole = Anderson & Kurtz, Kings Lynn = Batch & Holder, Belle Vue - Fricke & Sedgmen. The others, Leicester - as a team will sink or swim whereas in my opinion, Swindon and Somerset will struggle... Still I wish all teams well, nice to see Belle Vue with what appears to be a competitive team.... Let battle commence...

The great thing is no-one can really tell, all sides have teams that have riders who could make or break it and then it is down to who comes in to replace them... Poole obviously have a history (apart from last season) of getting this right. The weakened league opens up more opportunities for usually weaker riders to do well. Looking at it objectively, Wolves are my favourites but which Skornicki will they get - the one who became No.1 for Birmingham or someone who is now past it. The reserves obviously look fairly weak, a lot will depend on Max and Kyle Howarth needs to perform. Poole have a potentially hit or miss heat leader and a weak second string but if they step up.. Kings Lynn have the frustrating Troy Batchelor and a half decent albeit limited second string. Swindon, need Doyle so badly to perform to his maximum every meeting... very weak in my opinion. Rye House.... Harris aside, the others are potentially going to be great one week and shocking the next. Coventry look poor in my opinion....but in Josh Bates have a few points at reserve. Leicester ...anything can happen with the team they have... Belle Vue remain an unknown quantity, but could be up there..... Somerset need a miracle to avoid the wooden spoon in my opinion but track may catch a few away riders out... and before anyone starts on me... these are simply my opinions.... if i am wrong I will hold my hands up..... I'm not the sort of person to get embroiled in a slanging match, twit-for-tats arguments or petty squabbles..... I have my opinion and you guys can have yours which I will in turn respect.... I am going for a top two of Poole and Wolves and the other two to come from Belle Vue, Rye House and Kings Lynn..

So, going on from the coverage provided by stevebrum and mb1990 last night it would suggest that we wish to sign Masters and would like to get Skornicki in. If we signed those to it would take us to 47.69 with just a reserve to sign. So the big question is are Howarth & Skornicki a strong enough 2nd string and are Max and a 2 pointer a strong enough reserve pairing? Ordinarily I'd say no but given we are now in a new era of watered down speedway, it may just work..... Personally, i think Ty Proctor offers more than Adam but then I don't profess to know half as much as PA/CVS.....

Mb1990/stevebrum.... was there any mention of musielak or the 2 pointers like JPB?
-
5 through to 7 does not inspire much confidence in my opinion. I think Morris would struggle at reserve let alone in the main body of the team

I think if Wolves sign Masters, you have to go with a 2 point reserve and hope the rest of the team carry you through. I like Howarth but as we saw last season, he did struggle with consistency so to pick him when his average is higher than Proctor, Museilak, Schlein etc is a strange one. So with the four already signed (31.5 points) and Masters accounting for 40.47 points and the quality of riders who average between 4 & 5 points being less than exciting, i'd go all out for a JPB signing to leave you with just over 7 points for your last second string. If we don't sign Masters, then aside from wondering what the hell CVS/Adams are doing, you could possibly have Proctor, Musielak and AN Other. If it was correct on Proctor's Twitter that he is 6.68 and the earlier mention of of Musielak being somewhere around the 6.5 mark, it leaves a healthier 5.3 for your other reserve...... Or even go Ricky Wells, with one of Proctor/Musielak leaving just under 4 points for someone like Tom Perry.

I hope I'm proved wrong but I cannot see Kyle Howarth maintaining or improving his average and so his signing appears to be a big gamble. Still think Ty Proctor would have been a better option, but we need 2 Brits I suppose so that's probably part of the reason. My only concern is that Sam Masters has not yet been announced and he's now back to Australia for our winter.....

After reading this forum for years, I thought i'd finally post something.. I have two options for what I feel would be a decent team depending on whether you want to give someone like JPB a go. OPTION 1 1. Freddie 10.09 2. Jacob 9.88 3. Sam 8.97 4. Ty Proctor 6.68 5. Klindt - 5.42 6. Clegg - 4.34 7. Bewley - 4.00 TOTAL - 49.38 OPTION 2 1. Freddie 10.09 2. Jacob 9.88 3. Sam 8.97 4. Ricky Wells - 7.92 5. Ty Proctor 6.68 6. Clegg - 4.34 7. JPB - 2.00 TOTAL - 49.88 I don't profess to be an expert but still think Ty has something to offer especially on that average and Ricky always gave his all even though his average is a bit of a gamble. We would not be particularly strong at reserve but the top five looks decent
