You could do it in French but being that 50% of the folks at the speedway they wouldn't understand too much!... As I rider I was happy, unless of course I was falling off! Norbold, Tom Farndon wasn't the tallest rider or the shortest rider, If he was gay it wasn't mentioned in the book. Surely some of these facts should have been mentioned? ....... There again there was no mention in your book on the the classic meetings about the Jimmy Crawford Novice cup meeting held at Sheffield in the early 70's. Surely my only proffessional speedway gig deserves to be in the book. A scintilating 4 points out of 15 should be recorded for posterity! I have two copies of tat fateful meeting and when I find and buy the other 3 in exisistence I will have the market covered and sell them on E Bay and make the sort of money Speedway jounalists make! I have no idea what this post has to do about Al Sparry Hopefully the the moderators will open up a thread called Classic Speedway meetings Norbold missed!!!

Bob you are older than Norbold but a bit younger than John Hyam and Chaplin! And a damn sight smaller than Graham miles! Tiger Tom. p.s. hope to see you at Paris sometime this year!

Just got my copy of a 67 page booklet written by Rod Haynes on the first few years of Scunthorpe Speedway. A definate must for Scunthorpe fans and anyone who has followed the second tier of Speedway in ther early 70's While it does go into details of the teams record it also adds a human element with lots of little anecdotes about what went on behind the facts. Available by mail order £8.40 including P&P, (cheque/ postal order) Contact E.Mail: rodney_haynes45@... hotmail.com Rod's own career was derailed after breaking his leg for the second time. Otherwise I have no doubt that he would have become a third heat leader at the very worst. Tiger Tom.....

Thanks Pommyrose, 2 books on their way to the Dominion of Canada!.... I told Rod I expect it to rival Simmo's book and be revealing as to what goes on in speedway! Tom

Where is the book for sale please? Tiger Tom

I remember reading in the local Sheffield Star about the rider called A. N. Other..... Sad to say he must have been the unluckiest rider of all times because on race day he was always replaced!.... Glad this isn't a serious topic!.... Reading some of my old Aussie programs the Masked rider rode a few times. Also there was Slipper Hills an East Coast USA rider along with Rubberlegs Vicario! Tom

Bob, I thought you were the world's authority on the worlds tallest speedway rider not the shortest! Tom.....
-
Maybe even CCIS Bob...... Someone had better tell Norbold we have lakes bigger than England here!..... As for Mr Landels I believe he even rode for Australia or is my mind failing yet again. He shows up in many of my Aussie programs from that era! Tiger Tom....

Fim Team Under-21 World Championship
TigerTom replied to PhilK's topic in International World of Speedway
The crash that was shown on the german tv channel looks as if the fence had nothing to do with it. It was an awkward spill and an air fence would not have done anything to change the outcome. -
I wouldn't mention it Norbold as it would be a shameful plug for the book!
-
Or god like status if he has two spares!!! Right Andout!!!!!! Tigertom
-
Actually he may not b a mechanic but track staff!.. Many tracks had the staff in white boiler suits!
-
No idea where he was but if you ask me he was throwing a pair of the old "gas goggles" riders used to wear into the crowd! Many riders of that era did it as they were throw aways. As a kid I thought it great if I caught a pair!

My lasting memory of Chris was when he clouted the fence on the home straight at Sheffield. He was carried off on a stretcher. I was very young at the time and rushed to the pits area where they were taking him to the Anbulance room. He was gasping for air nd covrsd in blood. I hought he ws going to die and it scaed me to death. He had internal injuries and a punctured lung (if I remember rightly) He was a tough old bird. But many iders were. He seemed to be a fairly good middle order man if my memory serves me correctly. Tiger Tom....

It may be more interesting than you think to speedway historians. We are a weird lot spending most of our time living in the past trying to find and confirm details. If someone is compiling that tracks history you may very well be getting an e mail or two! Tiger Tom....
