  1. I believe Dave Dodd died of cancer some time ago! Have not sen Alan Kidd at Paris he did ride here in Canada t the old defunct Dundas track. I have a programme from the track compliments of Duncan Luke. Although I don't call what I am doing now living the rumours of my demise are greatly exaggerated!!!! Decided to give up riding after the end of last season Bob so I am now an ex rider yet again! (although some will say I was never a rider! ) I really need to set aside the time to visit Mike Tamms and get his life as a rider and promoter on tape. If you want a full list of Canadian riders and other ntionals who rode in Canada the full list can be found at:- http://www.canadianspeedway.com/riders2.htm Compiled by Roger Stevens and Duncan Luke Tiger Tom....
  2. Gosh Bob he must be old by now. I remember him coming to ride against Sheffield as a kid and he looked old then! He used to have a brush cut in them days. Now we are the old guys Bob! Will you be coming to Paris Spedway this year? .....They hope to hve practices this year so I should get you kittted out and on a bike again! Tiger Tom
  3. Bob Paulson was a god servant to Shefield speedway. A good captain and always willing to give a young lad an Autograph. He was involved in the first bend fatality of Ivor Hughes at Cradly Heath. That must have been a terrible thing to live with. I believe Bob stayed at a relatives pub in downtown Sheffield in his racing days and just after. Always had a clean bike and ultra clean leathers! Funnt how you remembr things. Cradley were at Shefield on the Thusday night with the retun at Cradly on the Saturday I believe. Remember geting Ivor's autograph on the Thursday then he was killed!.... Hard to register on a young lad at the time. I have been very fortunate to have never seen a speedway fatality and I hope I never will.
  4. Sandie, not a problem.....just gutted for him as I have watched him since he first rode here in Canada! Latst is that nothing is boken but they suspect some nerve damage. lets hope it is caused by swelling and that he can ride in the PLRC. For the moment though he is out of action. Tiger Tom..
  5. If it is broken in a bad way then he will miss out on the Premier League Riders Championship. So what looked to be the most exciting time of his speedway career will turn out to be the most disappointing! I'm gutted for the lad! Tiger Tom
  6. Looks as if Kyle Legault broke his wrist in the first heat fall. Had to ice it all night and it's no wonder he didn't do much. Looks as if he may be out for the rest of the season.... Tiger Tom.....
  7. I believe there will be some Mildenhall and Shefield fans going to support Canada'a favorite speedway rider! A darn sight cheaper to go from England than Canada! A few of us here would go if we had the money! Go LeGoGo
  8. Speedyguy, Freddie Legault rode in the Canadian Nationals this last saturday and was going great for a rider who rode first in the very early 70's!!! Tiger Tom....
  9. Not much better. You have Kyle Legault way behind Andrew Moore!...Remind me again, which one is in the GP qualifier final!!!!
  10. Anybody know how tall Graham Miles was! Bob you do have a poor memory! Seems you have forgot how to get to Paris speedway my friend! Will you be visiting us shortly? Canadian Nationals on this Saturday at Welland County (second leg) Looks to be Aaron Hesmers title or should I say it's his to loose! Tiger Tom.....
  11. Well done Kyle Legogo...... What do you think know. Sheffield (went with Ashworth and Wilson), Kings lynn (not a premier league heat leader they said!) Birmingham (Drury couldn't count and would not take him on 7 points!) All gave him a miss. Ask the Mildenhall faithful if they think he is worth watching week in week out! Oh, Canada! ...... Well done lad, your the best! Tiger Tom.......
  12. Well done Kyle!.....You are top notch mate! Fly the flag! Oh what the heck I might as well burst in to song! O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. Sing it loud Kyle........ The Maple Leaf forever!!!!!! Tiger Tom
  13. Way to go Kyle ...from al te Canadian lads and lasses! not forgetting the Sheffield Canadians! Tiger Tom....
  14. Yes I believe Tony got the five finger discount!.......
  15. Methinks some one over in Britain should be going to see these lads with a tape recorder and getting their life sories down. I am trying to get ingfo on old Canadian riders. Sadly all are gone and info is scarce. Tiger Tom....
  16. Both were the top Soviets in the 60's. Remember them well. Great competitors. Had Boris not got excluded he might have been world champ!... Igor came the closest. All the Russians were good for an autograph or two but watched like hawkes!... Ah the good o9ld cold war days. And those funky handlebars!!!! Tiger Tom....
  17. Hi Bob, glad to see you are out and about on the forums. Hope to see you at paris this year. Canada has it's own "bryan Seery" in Duncan Luke. Without Duncan there would be no statistical history of Canadain speedway. Duncan is a retired accountant! Go figure! (no pun intended) he scores nearly all the meetings in Canada, sets up the race card, designed the race format for the Welland round of the Canadian Nationals and writes a mena article for the PAris Speddway program. Duncan will go all red if he reads this but Canadian speedway has much to thank him for! Tiger Tom......
  18. Wasn't it the Jay family that was in the scrap businesss. Alan and Derek too over after good old Wilf died. Remember Frank Varey bringing Wilf back for meeting as he was stuck for a rider in the old Provincial League days. He was past it but put on a show with his old style!
  19. Allot was run over by the grader on the tractor I believe in a victory lap. Roper was a good solid second string as I remeber. Tony Robinson was either a world bater or mediocre but to his defence I believe he also had injury issues which led to his retirement. Jack was so smooth and a good heat leader (was on loan from Belle Vue or bought from them as was Robinson and Roper) Feathers! well what a rider for that brief moment in his riding days, he was so hard a rider! They were my heroes as a 12 year old. Good old Tommy was a tough nut for a womens hairdresser. Packed a punch and not afraid to throw it from what I remeber.
  20. He isn't listed as ever riding in Canada and I never heard of him being a Canadian riding in Britain. I have been compiling a list of Canadians racing in the old country and only Mike comes up. Like the two Appleby's riding in the same team, Only Charlie was Canadian. Tom Marriott
  21. BOSTON BARRACUDAS Nice name even though they were named after the promoters American Car, a Plymouth Barracuda!!!
  22. It should be dated Gresham....Stan turns 80 years young this winter and he is still giving out advice at the tracks in Ontrio Canada. Although he has had to slow up and no longer straightens frames etc. Stan rode in Canada but also as a team mate to Reg Fearman when he rode in England for the likes of Stoke, motherwel , Wolverhamptom, Ashfield etc
  23. Jawa make a 350cc engine that fits a standard frame! Why not use them. once a rider is old enough to 500cc he can sell his old engine to a junior rider on hisor her way up! Tiger Tom
  24. Unbelievable high costs. In Canada the Licence is $60 CDN and our local track is open for practice for a 4 hour session once a week at a cost of $10. Unfortunately the wather in winter makes riding inmpposible due to the extreme cold. Then people go on the ice. There are $2.30 dollars to the pound. Seems like someone is making a packet over there.
