"the Truth Behind The Gosford Fiasco"
SwineTown replied to tarabanko's topic in International World of Speedway
Makes me remember why I enjoy the conference league - very little of this going on and rider safety issues are a little more clear cut. Not that the CL doesnt have its prima donnas - naming no-one of course (cough!) -

Was this when Hans said he was filled in then the helmetcam was clean and clear? I suppose it is the disappointment of a called off meeting making me see sinister cinspiracy.... -

I naively thought that younger riders might heed the wisdom of Leigh and Todd - Like TRick in the abandoned Swedish GP. Is their still a concept of "senior" riders!? -

Given the fragile Aussie scene and the apathy after the Crump championship I suppose hopes are always high the national champs might boost support and attract young riders and bigger crowds. -

Very Aussie flavour to the denunciations but nonetheless an insight into tense times. If the prima donna element is real and as obstrusive as this then it bodes poorly for the GPs etc and perhaps throws certain other high profile fiascos in a harsher light (PLRC, EB V IW, the called-off GP etc). However, as always, we non-riders are in a weak position on this issue, and I suppose that one can argue that Leigh etc have the skill and experience to deal with all conditions (inc snow at Blunsdon!) but even so... Steve S - the Andersen thing was particularly worrrying - live TV and the armchair brigade got to see exactly what was going on - the terraces would have had to go home and watch to see the dodgy dealings. At home we saw the helmet-cam... -

Aussie Titles Round 3 - Ding Ding
SwineTown replied to Ozyace's topic in International World of Speedway
Just FYI from my local paper: ----------------------------------- Step nearer to the title for Adams By Dave Eaton LEIGH ADAMS has moved a step nearer to a record ninth Australian Championship title without even turning a wheel, writes DAVE EATON. The Swindon Robins skipper, winner of the opening two rounds at Gillman and Mildura last week, did not even have to try and extend his unbeaten record in the 2006 Championship as the third round due to be staged at Gosford, New South Wales, last night was washed out. Heavy rain 24 hours earlier and rain again yesterday left the circuit at the Gosford Showground waterlogged and officials had no alternative but to cancel the meeting. Unfortunately owing to an extremely tight schedule for the four round series to be completed, the third round will not be re-run at Gosford. The series is now set to move onto Newcastle, NSW, on Saturday night, weather permitting, for the finale, the fourth and final round. Adams was a red-hot favourite to defend the Aussie title even before the series commenced, but with the third round being washed out the overall championship crown now looks a formality again for him. The current World No. 3 is unbeaten after 12 races in the series so far. He won the qualifying events at Gillman and Mildura last week with 15 point maximums and then went on to take the chequered flag in the respective A Finals. All Adams has to do in Newcastle to take his ninth Aussie Championship title is finish in the top four in the 20-heat qualifying event. That would guarantee him an A final and a minimum of 16 points and put him into an unassailable position on the leaderboard. Leading standings (After two rounds) 1 LEIGH ADAMS 40pts, :D 2 Todd Wiltshire 35, 3 Rory Schlein 33, 4 Adam Shields 28, 5 Travis McGowan 27, 6 Simon Stead (guest) 26, 7 equal Davey Watt and Kevin Doolan 23, 9 Jason Lyons 22, 10 Jason Doyle 20. -
and to think speedway probably seemed expensive even up to now. Hope Dad's ready for an "exciting" new year! Big congrats to Mr Bint (jnr)!

Saturday Uk Terrestrial Tv Speedway Round Up
SwineTown replied to witchnut's topic in 'The Way Ahead'
Cant understand, given the viewing figures, why SKy dont run something anyway. Thousands would watch it and it would allow them to cover the whole sport and pick and choose what they wanted to include. -
Does anyone know how much difference it makes to overall results? It seems to dangle a carrrot but never pay off. I know bonus points are affected but how often do teams come back using a TR and win? I have no idea myself.

Cheers G Without wanting to hijack this thread, i was sure that was the case - and the Budgies squawked, ignoring Floppies attempt to headbutt Hans and of course - Dugard ('nuff said) -
If so then Jonas may be sorted. He walked the qualifiers didnt he? Unbeaten against Lind back/gren

I know we are both slightly biased (!!) on this but my recollection is that Olly "went at" steen but never made contact and was held back by that paragon of virtue Mr D. I also thought that Steen had just wiped Olly out. Not a wind up - genuinely cant remember . -

While it is a bit naff to make these sweeping statements, I am pretty sure Racism is about RACE, not nationality.

I think almost everyone at Blunsdon, from top to bottom, is with Britpete on this one. He is the Swedish U21 champ, beating Lindback and Freddie, and he battled so hard in the GP and the fact he was given the wildcard, but this only puts his UK riding into dismal contrast. I hear he now is telling people he hates Swindon. Fine - but the crowd reaction has formed gradually and is based upon his on track performance - as it should be. His European form just underlines the fact that he is clearly on 2nd rate machinery and saving himself for Sweden. And that really REALLY gets our goat. Also with Ljung - but then he is more of a battler and has a more rocky baptism this season. Jonas is a gate and go geezer and when that type of rider is on slower bikes with less commitment then you end up with one heat win in the (almost) fastest time of the night and then distant lasts in almost every other (much slower) race. The extent to which he and Ljung can be behind all other riders is jaw-dropping-Shuts off early and does nothing at the back. Poor Olly still looks 1000% more spirited. Jonas will still have a higher final avergae than Mads or Frenchy but they both battle hard and are exciting to watch. Better that than this. If a new Russian does turn up at Swindon this year then thats gotta be a step in the right direction because ultimately, even losing can be exciting if your team are fighting to the death, but Swindon 2005 have officially given up it seems and even gave up 1/2 way through the Panthers meeting until Ales' terrible crash. Here's to 2006.
