  1. Am I right in thinking that the return fixture (ie Mk vs Spitfires) is scheduled for this evening at Rye House..?
  2. I saw him ride for Sweden against England in a Division 2 level international (remember them!) at Eastbourne in September 1973! Considering the other riders were called Nilsson, Enecrona, Hellsen, Selmosson, Salomonsson and Claesson, plain Smith stood out as rather unusual!! But then later in August 1976 at my first ever visit to Saddlebow, a rider appeared in the second half called Peter E. Smith. Again NOT the famous Poole one (though as the Pirates were the Stars' opponents in the main meeting THAT Pete Smith had ridden). Question is was this Peter E. Smith, the Swedish rider or someone else completely..?!
  3. btw, MDL rider Tom Woolley could end the year as a WORLD CHAMPION..! Tom is currently leading the overall rankings in the inaugural Flattrack FIM World Championship after second places in Prague and at Montegiorgio in Italy. Next round is over in the home of Flattrack, the USA at Auburn, Cal. Good luck to Tom!!
  4. Result and full heat details from Friday & Saturday's Young Hammers' matches (a win and a draw) are over in the AJL Fixtures and Results thread!
  5. Not an AJ League match but a Challenge match - so details here in fixtures/results section: Eastbourne Eaglets 18 ( Nick Laurence 7; Connor Dugard 4+3; Niall Strudwick 6; Adam Briggs 1+1) Lakeside YHs (Mark Baldock 9 [M]; Simon Pearce 0; Jack Kingston 7; Adam Sheppard 2) Heat Results: 1) Baldock, Laurence, Dugard, Pearce [3-3] 64.4 2) Kingston, Strudwick, Sheppard, Briggs [5-7] 3) Kingston, Laurence, Briggs, Pearce [8-10] 63.5 4) Baldock, Strudwick, Dugard, Sheppard [11-13] 64.4 5) Laurence, Dugard, Kingston, Pearce [16-14] 64.8 6) Baldock, Strudwick, Sheppard, Briggs [18-18] 64.4
  6. Result tonight from Lakeside Young Hammers 13 (Mark Baldock 4; Jack Kingston 9 [M]; Simon Pearce 0) Ipswich Junior Witches 11 (Joe Graver 9; Tyler Govier 0 {NS}; Martin Knuckey 2+1) Heat details: 1) Kingston; Graver; Baldock; Knuckey (f.rem.); Govier NS [4-2] 2) Kingston; Graver; Knuckey; Pearce [7-5] 3) Graver; Baldock; Knuckey; Pearce (fell) [9-9] 4) Kingston; Graver; Baldock; Knuckey [13-11] NB. Tyler made it to the tapes for heat 1 but then blew his engine
  7. Brought up on the (basically) Long Tracks of France, Adam was always going to find Smallbrook to his liking. But then again he won his first meeting over here on a tiddler at Arlington!!
  8. Fixture tomorrow (Friday 3./8) at Lakeside: Young Hammers vs. Ipswich Junior Witches Team line-ups (three rider teams only for this match) are [NB. teams in alpha NOT riding order] Young Hammers: Mark Baldock; Jack Kingston; Simon Pearce Junior Witches: Tyler Govier; Joe Graver; Martin Knuckey Please note also, this match goes ahead BEFORE the EL match with tapes up for heat one promptly at 7pm
  9. What a FANTASTIC performance from Adam Ellis - the lad has won his first EVER Speedway meeting in the UK, the U-16s at Eastbourne; followed that up by winning the next round at Scunny too; and here in only his second ever NL match, scores paid ten...! Simply brilliant,, well done mate.
  10. Important news about the AJL match at Lakeside on Friday (3 August): Young Hammers vs. Ipswich Junior Witches! It's back to being BEFORE the main Elite League action. We'll be VERY PROMPTLY underway at 7pm, so please be there in good time for the Junior League racing! Team details to follow later in the week...
  11. Seems there will be no play offs in the AJL which I think is the right thing personally (I'm no fan of play offs deciding a league title) . The Ipo vs. Tiger Cubs derby match didn't happen last night as it happens...
  12. I believe it's Ipswich vs. Mildenhall in the AJDL this evening. An important fixture in terms of the race for the play off final. And will be an interesting one to see the two team line-ups... Anyone ot there have any details..?
  13. Yes Adam is riding on Sunday - fresh from riding for the Islanders (as you say), for the Young Hammers in the AJL and second halfing at Somerset..
  14. I did but years of you beating me up has left me a mere shadow of the man I used to be!!!
  15. Venue is West Ham Labour Party HQ in Stratford btw. Why not combine this with an evening trip out to see the modern day Hammers vs. Eastbourne in both EL and then AJL action..!?
  16. Hmm, well spotted! As many will know, if there's even the slightest chance of me getting something wrong like this I'll take it!! Though in my (flimsy) defence, - and I won't name and shame! - a distinguished fellow member of the BSF led me down this blind alley on this occasion!! Have to say, btw, that Oliver looks to be as outstanding prospect and is a really nice guy too..! PS am sure namesake Daniel is as well..!! PPS shame there's not a third young rider with this surname, then one could put together a mini team and call it 'Under The Greenwood Three'...
  17. He got onto the track - back straight but engine packed up so never approached the tapes. To me that's a bona fide NS. Next time he was under power until the bend before the tapes but the bike cut out then and couldn't restart in time to avoid a 2 mins exclusion. The other Adam (our one, Adam Ellis) shed a chain when leading heat 2. He still managed to get home for second. The chain managed to damage his clutch and so he had to withdraw from what should've been his second ride: so that's an NS too.
  18. 17th August 2012 2pm – A talk by Robert Rogers about West Ham Speedway, a passion for many residents of the borough. Robert will be talking about his love of the Speedway, as well as showing off his old photographs and memorabilia. http://www.hidden-histories.org.uk/wordpress/?page_id=2283
  19. Result from tonite at the EoES Peterborough Thundercats 6 (Adam Portwood 2; Simon Pearce 3; Adam Kirby 0; Ben Holloway 1) Lakeside Young Hammers 17 (Mark Baldock 6[M]; Martin Pearce 3+1; Jack Kingston 6[M]; Adam Ellis 2+1[PM]) (AJL) (four heats only due to curfew - RESULT STANDS) Heat 1) Baldock; M. Pearce; S. Pearce; Portwood 62.3 [1-5] Heat 2) Kingston; Ellis; Holloway; Kirby NS 66.7 [2-10] Heat 3) Kingston; Portwood; M. Pearce; Holloway 67.3 [4-14] Heat 4) Baldock; S. Pearce; Kirby Exc 2M; Ellis NS 67.5 [6-17] Well done to ALL the riders for getting four heats done in the ten minutes we had available to us for the AJL match. Ten mins as opposed to the TWO HOURS the EL lads had for their 15 heats.. No, I don't undestand how that happened either...?!
  20. Result of the 'Capital Challenge' at Rye House this evening (Saturday 21/7): Pocket Rockets 16 (Danny Verge 4; Oliver Greenwood 9 [M]; Bradley Tokley 3; Joe Exley 0) Young Hammers 20 (Adam Ellis 7; Adam Sheppard 2+1; Mark Baldock 10+1; Ollie Weldrick 0 (withdrawn injured)) Heat 1) Greenwood; Ellis; Verge; Sheppard (f.rem) 4-2 Heat 2) [rerun] Baldock; Tokley; Weldrick inj. NS in rerun; Exley f.ex 6-5 Heat 3) [rerun] Baldock; Verge; Sheppard; Exley f.ex 8-9 Heat 4) Greenwood; Ellis; Sheppard; Tokley 11-12 Heat 5) Greenwood; Baldock; Verge; Sheppard 60.9 15-14 Heat 6) Ellis; Baldock; Tokely; Exley 62.6 16-19 Under 15s match-races Robert Lambert beat Max Fricke 58.2 Robert Lambert beat Max Fricke ## Robert Lambert beat Max Fricke 58.8 A very entertaining AJ challenge at RH tonight. One-time RH Cobra Ollie Greenwood continued his comeback from injuury, like he had been at Sheffield in the MDL on Thursday, the 2007 GB U-15s national champ was unbeaten. A team debut in the UK for French-based rider Adam Ellis capped off by partnering Mark Baldock to the 5-1 in heat 6 to win the 'Capital Challenge'. Adam Sheppard contributed vital placings to help secure the Lakeside win. And Ollie Weldrick so unlucky as he couldn't avoid the fallen Exley in front of him in heat 2 and aggravated his collarbone injury leading to having to withdraw from the meeting Help with times for heats 1 to 4 plus the middle of the three U-15 races would be appreciated!
