  1. Revisiting the watch mans previous comments, I wonder how many Comets fans would now be happier to have the option to pay £20 for an evenings racing?
  2. Would certainly be good to see our Promoter from the affluent south ploughing in some of the proceeds from his other successful motorsport business, to help keep our beloved sport alive. Reassuring news Crescent Girl
  3. 1968, Season finished in August, but hadn't started till May - We've really came a long way when we are turning out in the cold, dark nights at the start of the season, then sitting at home in the warmth of August. For a forward looking promotion, with a commitment to youth, I can't understand why we now have no Stars of Tomorrow meeting.
  4. We have a promotion taking a full price admittance, so is it unfair to expect a full time commitment like Peter used to make to the club and it’s supporters? As he said on his interview on Facebook, nobody has done more laps of the track than him. Or were they “special times”?
  5. When you haven’t got £15 spare (which is the case for many teenagers), there are many more pressing or tempting things to attract your cash. 20 cigarettes to last a week, and a few bus fares, or walk to work all week and not smoke, for 16 minutes of ‘excitement ‘ on a Saturday night?
  6. Yes, and the Hen and Chickens. I think Prior to the birth of Bedrocks. And a history before that too, He can run a business
  7. A lot stop coming at 16 - there are a lot of other attractions that don’t carry a £15 price tag
  8. Moved on to bigger and better things away from Berwick - There IS life over Sunnyside it seems!
  9. Is this not a quandary as old as the sport itself? I seem to remember in the 70s, Border Speedway Supporters Club (name of town) Branch, being set up as the then promotion had assumed an automatic right to all funds raised in the name of the sport in the Borders, and stopped the supporters using the name. If memory serves, funds were given to many riders, not just those with a Shielfield affiliation. Did the much lamented PW not have a Bounty Club set up "in house"? , and the Butchers had an "Elite club" not so long ago? History repeats
  10. If the track is done right, why change it for the following meeting? I would imagine if you get the set up right, it is relatively simple to do the same thing again, and again
  11. Chickens coming home to roost? For years now the sport that we love has been allowed to run itself into the ground and almost to the point of self destruction. If ever there was a time to wake up, and give the sport a shake up, It has to be now.
  12. Part of the problem is of the sports (Promoters) own making - "Kids" get in Free up to age 16, then when they leave school, or carry on their education, they get asked to pay £15 or so each week to carry on following speedway
  13. A sad reflection of how low the Bandits support is now. They used to say "use it or lose it", it seems it's all but lost
  14. Are you confident that there will be a Next Year?
  15. Crowd of 350 not good news then. Some great racing though - full house next week. Bring your Granny!
  16. Funding in place now, so hard to see why not. For the past dozen years or so, it has been will we or won't we run every year - you can see why plans for a new stadium with a 50 year life isn't built around a Speedway track that may not be wanted by the time the stadium is complete. Makes the case for moving the club out to Duns all the more convincing.
  17. I am led to believe that it's a case of when, not if
  18. I believe that the new promotion will be looking for another form of assistance from Berwick Rangers, altering their much prized pitch to improve the speedway is a non starter of an idea.
  19. Can't help wondering why CrescentGirl has gone quiet
  20. Will it be Parmos instead of Scotch Pies on the van now?
  21. Repeat something often enough and it becomes fact. The local watchman may have been winding people up, he has time on his hands.
