  1. Top right, may be Harry Shepherd not very confident on that though. Second row down, right - Squib Burton and Frank Varey. Third row down, left - Gordon Byers on a Douglas. Bottom left Squib Burton Again. Pass on the team, but could the chap on the left, kneeling down possibly be Jeff or Wally Lloyd?
  2. Do you mean Mark Thorpe the Newzealander? No idea!
  3. 176 Alf Busk y/b the one and only Rosco in white.
  4. 86 Karl Blackbird. 91 Kai Niemi Tommy Knudsen.
  5. After years in the wilderness as far as speedway books go, it has been great that recently there has been such an upsurge in their production. Tribute websites are also a brilliant way of bringing back memories, I wonder how many people have just surfed in to a site because they used to go to speedway? Both of these areas of media are extremely important to speedway, time marches on far too quickly and information is easily lost, so getting the stories and history of our sport in print and to a far wider audience is of the utmost importance. Keep up the good work, there's plenty of people out there, including myself who really appreciate all the time and effort you put in .
  6. Cor blimey Norbold, you sound like my old man, he's always saying thing like that. He's forever saying a trip on the bus to Epping Forest was like going on holiday, and as for visiting his Grandparents in Swindon, that was like going abroad. I'm glad we live in a smaller world now!
  7. The last Rye. pic. could the chap to the left of schroek possibly be Adrian Stevens? Glad to be of help on the Soton. team, it helped having the Southampton speedway book by Paul Eustace. Mac Woolford was a local Swindon rider who I believe was starting to make his way with Eastbourne when he had a big crash, badly damaging his back finishing his speedway career. He still goes to Swindon on occasions and is still suffering from his injurys. Very harsh sport speedway!!!
  8. 46: Kai Niemi 50: John Eskildsen 55: Randy Green 56: Kelly & Shawn Moran
  9. Southampton L-R : Bert # Name Removed #, Cecil Bailey, Tom Oakley, Bob Oakley, Jimmy Squibb, Frank Goulden (team manager), Alf Bottoms (captain on bike), Jimmy Baxter (promoter), Alf Kaines, Bill Griffiths, George Bason. West Ham team: front right Keith Gurtner.
  10. As it's the yearly VSM bash at the Kings Oak Hotel on Sunday, will any of you be going?
  11. Ozyace, the guy in the black is a fellow countryman of yours Glyn Taylor.
  12. He's also the gentleman behind GM engines.
  13. Thanks Rusky. As you say, in the past tuners used to reside very much in the background, and I must be honest I've never heard of the gentleman, but he must have done some work on my engine in the past, so it's great to be able to add some history to it .
  14. Fantastic mag. I'm only missing two issues. It's a shame all the nostalgia can't be transfered over to real in your face track action. The jubilee meet. at Ryehouse back in March was great. Anyway enough of my rubbish, keep up the good work.
  15. I was dismantling a 2v. jawa engine recently and came across the name D. Hobson Penistone, scratched inside the timing cover. Anyone have any idea who this is?
  16. Why have people slated your riding? At the end of the day they've probably never had the balls to sit on a bike let alone race one. You did, who's the winner?
  17. 19'' tyres were introduced for the 1956 season, the idea was to bring more spectacular and closer racing, which failed!! And reduce costs, but following lots of arguments was not introducd until Aug. 20th.
