  1. I really think that everyone is over-reacting with the "dwindling" Cardiff crowd. Yes, this year was low, but there were several major factors involved. Everything came together for the perfect storm.
  2. Tony passed away eleven days before his 67th birthday. Also, it appears that andout was correct; from 1968 to 1970, Crayford rode on a Wednesday (I was still a kid, then...)
  3. Crayford was Tuesday. After I started driving (after White City closed), I used to pop over to Crayford sometimes. Biggest problem was the poxy drive around the South Circular! Plus, they never opened until after Wimbledon switched to Thursdays. Hey, I was the same. After Crayford closed, I like to pop up to Milton Keynes on a Tuesday. I also liked Canterbury and Rye.
  4. Even in my teens, I had three a week!
  5. Yep, that was my mum's weekly speedway action in the early 50's!
  6. I think Oxford was Thursday, but Norwich was definitely Saturday.
  7. Nice thing is that we had a way of confirming it!
  8. Couldn't have said it better myself...
  9. I'm okay with riders talking about "set-ups", but I wish they would actually explain WHAT their set-up is, and HOW and WHY it works for them. It's like the first thing interviewers always ask a rider; "How did you find the track?"
  10. You mean "he was the best player on the park"?
  11. It doesn't have to be that way though; there are options...
  12. What about three-team events? Forget about the "third of the revenue". You mean a "third of the expense"more like! Okay, it may not be 100% balanced fixture-wise (and it could be arranged according to results/team strength), but it would have to be better than what we have now.
  13. Thank you so much! That was a great meeting! Not sure if it was the fact that the kids were evenly matched, or it was the bikes that were evenly matched? Perhaps it was the fact that Fireman Phil didn't keep flooding the track... One thing I noticed - and it took me back a few years - was the fact that unlike the "men", the kids were using more of the old "foot-forward" style.
  14. Does it come with a "warning"?
  15. Speedway riders are notorious for not giving their correct ages!
  16. The 1937. I said "about" £100, because I found a set yesterday for £90.
  17. Oh, spellings are a TOTALLY different thing, and I don't think there was ANY track that didn't misspell a few names!
  18. That's more what I was looking for. Programmes and info from back then are more likely to be accurate...
  19. Remember, you can always check things on Google. Although I never actually saw or met Gary, I was always "in the know" because of Johnnie.
  20. He crashed at Welland in 1987, and broke an arm and a leg. However, he suffered a large blood loss, which left him with brain damage. He never fully recovered, and basically died from complications eight years later. My buddy Johnnie stayed in regular touch with Gary and his family after the accident. His death really tore him up...
  21. Complete sets (without the original album) go for around £100, and individual cards are £3-4. I have the set, but it's not the original album.
  22. I wanted to give it a couple of days just to wait and see, so here goes... After every GP, there are always a bunch of posters who come on here whining about the stupid points system, and how it's ridiculous that a rider can squeeze into the semis, yet come away with the most points. I see now, that only applies to non-British winners, 'cos NOBODY has said that since Dan won!!!
  23. As do several other online sources - including our beloved National Speedway Museum - although again, you don't know where they got the information. Speaking of the National Speedway Museum, I notice that it is not available online. Has the site closed down?
  24. A week ago, I made the observation that Lambert could qualify on merit for next year's series, only being 8 points off 6th. Now, he is just 2 points out, and another performance or two like yesterday, and he's in!
