  1. Are you sure he was at Ashfield, DJW I cant remember him being there, in fact I dont even think he was still around during the last years of Shawfield and it was his son who took on the role during this period. Like George mentioned, what I remember most about Rab, was when he sold his old Stars at the end of the night at the last couple of meetings of the season. They would just be spread all over the ground and all the youngsters, myself included, would rummage through them, only interested in the action covers, it was only portrait covers that would be left come the last meeting - happy days
  2. No, mate, you are not imagining it, he reached out and grabbed Henka Gustafsson's clacker bag, as they flew down the straight side by side
  3. What's on your mind? idiot ALL, YA NOSEY CU^T!!

  4. How the hell did they let Havvy on wearing that shirt ...thats the second time he has turned up with a howler on his back
  5. Excellent site that, boywonder. Great to see Hamilton Accies old Douglas Park ground, where MJFC spent a good bit of his 1970s childhood Also a few other old speedway venues at Somerton Park, Shawfield, Cliftonhill and St Mirren Park
  6. Like the majority of the others, I too would like to change my captain to Jason Crump.
  7. Cheers for that, Steve. Looks like the bold Jan rode over here longer than I thought, he actually wasnt a bad rider and I seem to recall him turning in a match winning guest appearance for Glasgow one year ......or maybe that was Michael Teurnberg, because I know he definitely did
  8. Jan Osvald Pedersen b 9.11.1962 Middlefart Cradley Heath (1983 1985-1992) Sheffield (1984) Jan Pedersen b 27.7.1967 Brondekilde Not too sure about this Jan Pedersens career, but he was an Arena Essex asset who rode for Rye House for a couple of seasons 1992-93 I think, maybe someone can clear this up for you, puma.
  9. I can still remember being on an FA coaching course as a youngster back in the early 80s (near enough to the 70s ) We were based in Sandwell and it seemed that every other vehicle I saw had some sort of speedway related stickers on the windows. I was well impressed, as it was something you never saw much of up here. We were also taken to Dudley Wood for a meeting one Saturday night, which was the highlight for me The Midlands really was a hotbed of speedway back then Although with the revival of the Brummies and hopefully Leicester next year, it will be again What about the model speedway bikes made by Britains, I used to have loads of them and spent hours firstly racing them round the oval pattern on my mums 70s style carpet before progressing to a piece of wood with a track marked out on it, filling out old programmes as I went Wish I had kept hold of them as they now seem to fetch quite a few sheckles on Ebay.
  10. I have a couple of quid on Holta or Holder to win at 20s and 33s respectively, but my my wee one pound E/W ON Zorro at 200-1 is the kiddy All three have started decent though, but in those conditions its a lottery, just the same as a punt is
  11. May aswell have a wee birl... 1. Jason CRUMP £50,000 6. Nicki PEDERSEN £45,000 8. Kenneth BJERRE £35,000 9. Fredrik LINDGREN £35,000 13. Jarek HAMPEL £25,000 - [c]
  12. I dont think his place in the Glasgow team this season is a stick-on at this moment in time. The promotion will probably assess things when Nick turns 16 in June and a lot will depend on how well the current septet are performing and how much progress Nick has made. I have said it elsewhere, but it is not often I get excited when it comes to speedway and new Glasgow siginings in particular, but I have a good feeling about young master Morris and I am very happy that the Glasgow promotion have persuaded him to become a Tiger and look forward to him serving his apprenticeship in the Stripes. Also happy to see them snap up Michael Penfold aswell, who has been receiving some good reports down under. Glasgow is a good place for young Aussies starting out on their careers
  13. Inspiring stuff Erik was one of my favourite riders ever. I have mentioned this elsewhere before, but I will always remember when Glasgow drew the Heathens in the ILKOC of 1980 and all the talk was obviously of golden boy Bruce appearing at Blantyre, but it was the wee Dane who made the biggest impression on a young MJFC that night and he became a huge favourite of mine.
  14. If you mean young Nick Morris, Dave, then yes he is most certainly venturing over, but not to Pomgolia, he is instead heading for gods own country, having signed a contract to link up with the Glasgow Tigers. As he doesnt turn 16 until June he will start off in the NL with the Buxton Hitmen. Seen him a few times last season and he looks to have natural talent, if a little raw and inexperienced on the 500s at the time. I am confident the Glasgow promotion have signed a goodun' They have also snapped up another young Aussie, in the shape of Michael Penfold, who will be coming over in the summer to get himself acclimatised to the UK scene.
  15. Dont want to hi-jack the thread, but one's mans record sees him stand alone as the National League's greatest ever rider As for Joe, I had a conversation with someone on here before and I mentioned how another rider in an interview said he had never seen scars like those Joe was left with after that life threatening accident at the Boulevard in 1978. I believe he had what it took to have become a top performer on the world stage, if it hadnt been for that crash. He was still only 21 when it happened and had a CMA of over nine points at the time. He actually showed amazing resolve to come back from it as well as he did.
  16. That sounds an excellent idea, Bavarian. The last time Scotland had a full international was 1998 and 1999 if I remember right. They took on the England U21's in a couple of Test series. Bert Harkins was very much at the forefront of organising it I believe and maybe he would be a good first point of contact. I am sure someone on here could put you in touch. Scotland comes under the whole ACU umberella as part of the UK, but that hasnt stopped them taking part in internationals as a seperate nation in the past. Unofficial representative meetings should'nt be a problem, I would imagine and even if that failed what about tour anyway, taking on Edinburgh, Berwick and Glasgow over a weekend
  17. Steve Lawson was also unbeaten against Scunny and Middlesbrough in 1981, DW. Collins and Mckeon both missed out against Newport in 1977, but got maximums in the Stoke meeting. I think there were one or two double headers during the 93 and 94 title years, so I am pretty sure one or two Tigers would have remained unbeaten in those. Would have been 18 pointers aswell.
  18. Was this not the meeting Collins junior, Neil, was a match winning reserve in the dying heats
  19. I think my first sight of PC was at Blantyre in 1979, when he and a full strength Aces side paid a visit, suffice it to say PC was dire, the young Tigers sent their illustrious visitors packing after a comfortable win and super Steve Lawson romped to his customary maximum.....happy days Cant remember why PC didnt ride at all well, but the young MJFC was very impressed with his gold Citroen Safari in the car park
  20. I can remember being amazed to find speedway books in the library during my first year at secondary school, they were in three parts, if I remember right, and although I didnt realise it at the time I think they were based loosely on the life of Barry Briggs, the female character was even named Junie. They were certainly written with schoolchildren in mind and I think they were probably the only books I ever read at school
  21. Scoop magazine of the late 70s early 80s was always good for speedway coverage, they even had a comic strip speedway story which ran for a while, but for the life of me I cant remember what it was called, pretty sure the team was nicknamed the Cobras though ..........I can remember This Goalie's Got Guts, though, starring Ben Lieper
  22. Next year will be Chris Harris' fourth SGP series in succession and he has never qualified for any of them by right. Dont get me wrong I like Harris' as a rider, but surely there must be one or two others out there more deserving of a place. Obviously SKY TV have had a say in the matter.
  23. Audie Murphy - the 24-hour cowboy (need to understand the Scottish accent for that one )
