  1. oh it seems the poms came up with the idea first rikards motors were very well looked after,i purchased a real nice wessie from him when he lived at cowley in oxford around the late 70s early 80s,i toke the motor with me to australia.all the best stuff in it,all in tip top condition,a real good purchase. i have purchased motors from other top flight riders whilst starting speedway and was ripped of more than once.i purchased a weslake engine from a ex poole and oxford rider that was s@@t inside when i got it home.so rickard is a up front a nice fellow.a smart hard rider to boot
  2. dont sell us ozzies to short my good man, perhaps the first ever maggie on a weslake was manufactured in townsville north queensland,im sure it came from a engineering place owned by neil fagustrom(R.I.P.)im sure the ex halifax gun merv janke rode this engine a great deal.im told by those who rode and worked on the engine that it pulled hard from the gate.the engine is still running and is in first class condition, its still in townsville. i also have to say that i beleive the best back yard boffins would have to come from country australia, even back in 1980 if you stuffed your wessie up etc you had to either go with out, find another motorcycle engine part you could change and make fit or just make the dam thing,i have seen some weird s@@t riden on tracks up north queensland way. so i think the poms have a long way to go,on and off the track
  3. im trying to track down some help with a speedway rider who rode in the late 40s and 50s,his first name begins with M and his last name begins with P he rode a bike built at peamore garage exeter.a jap in a kermond frame or rotrax frame. can anybody think of riders in that era with those letters many thanks
  4. i was lucky to find a bike that had been rolled away and not riden for some 30 years, the bike is located in australia but i need to find out which rider rode the bike in the uk in the 40s or 50s.it seems that the rider may well have been australian and may well have rode for exeter,on the engine(1938 4/5 stud jap)and on the fuel tank is a nice silver solderd badge which has the words peamore garage, alphington, exeter.the engine is 1938 and the frame seems to be a early rotrax,it all seems to be dated around the mid 40s to 50s.after a little surfing on the nett i found a exeter rider called arthur pilgrim who rode for exeter around those times,he also purchased a garage in exeter around that time can anybody help me .either the rider worked for the garage, owned the garage or was sponserd by the garage. i can be contacted on .....morstonemanor@hotmail.com
  5. i think i have a signed photo given to myself ,by the man him self ,after my bad smash at newcastle is this of help.its the man flat out with his sig on it
  6. weslakes just the best, the dohc wessie is not common they tell me only 11 or 12 350cc were made, and not much more of the 500cc.i was very lucky to pick up an ex works engine from a fellow in the uk last year.its got all the goodies in it. i think the main probelm with the engine was that they were a real s@@t to keep on song.the cam timing alone is a eye popper the speciel tools that came with the motor make me very pleased i only rode the pushrod engines and the flat tops. if you want to talk about an engine that was a dog to ride how about the 4 valve jap dohc. thats what i call a real dog.havin said that does anybody want to sell one.i would be happy to take the paper weight of there hands
  7. dag lovaas i think may have riden jap to its last div 1 race win,but im not 100% sure.
