  1. i'm not a fan of the gp's but i thought last night was a good meeting. the track held up and it was very well run. the earlier start time is much better for me although it still takes ages to get home.
  2. freddie has been a regular at the high beech and paradise park events held every february.
  3. i must say i'm suprised we have more tracks here than any other country.
  4. you and me both. it's the same journey for me from south of the river. i'm still feeling tired from going to lakeside last night in that heat!.
  5. i think most people are still recovering from handing over £25 to watch last sundays double header!.
  6. i feel sorry for the fen tigers this sunday. firstly having to face bournemouth on track as well as england v germany off track.
  7. thanks for the early team news jayne. is there any chance you could post the full buxton line up prior to the meeting. at the moment it's looking like i might give this one a miss.
  8. speedway at the white city or the one show. it's a tough choice!.
  9. to be fair, on friday the football ground toilets were clean and believe it or not the lights were working!.
  10. at weymouth there are proper toilets to use inside the football ground. i was also at this meeting on friday and although i got fed up with the tractor problems these things happen at speedway. running a track at this level can be a real struggle and most venues find it hard to survive.
  11. i was there that night. it was a shocking accident and one i will never forget.
  12. when i was a kid briggo always had plenty of time for the fans. he never refused to sign an autograph or have a chat. some riders like mauger and monk could be really hard work. although a few years later when i travelled with ivan to poland on his farewell tour i found him to be a really nice bloke and felt guilty for booing him all those years ago.
  13. tommy and ronnie moore were my favourite wimbledon riders. i can remember going to school and being told by my friends about the accident. i was so upset i could not face going to the following weeks meeting against swindon. in my opinion wimbledon speedway never recovered from his tragic demise.
  14. i agree, i remember having trouble phoning a cab after a sunday meeting against edinburgh in 2001. luckily some kind soul gave me a lift back to the station.
  15. hi eddie, the wick was a great race track up until 1983 when uncle len ran it. 1n 1984 when crayford moved in and they changed the track it was never the same for me. and as for the london lions era the track was even worse.
  16. they say that records are made to be broken. you would have to wait a long time for someone to beat alan sage's superb feat of not missing meetings.
  17. as a kid i saw alan sage ride plenty of times for west ham at custom house. in later years he was a loyal crayford team man before ending his career at arena essex. a couple of years ago someone told me he was having a go at stock car racing.
  18. the bus service was too unreliable. in the end very few people used it.
  19. no problem robbie, i'm pleased i could help.
  20. hi robbie, have a look on the greyhound derby website. it has loads of pictures of speedway badges from all tracks and all are dated.
  21. hi rob, i went to three world long track finals in the 1980's - korskro, marianske lazne and herxheim. all three of these circuits were shale based and resembled very large speedway tracks. i recenty read an article by ivan mauger, where he comments that all pre 1991 long track competitions were more like speedway compared to the current long track series which resembles grass track with very few speedway riders taking part. it's just another example of how the sport has evolved over the years.
  22. i'm only joking with you rob. i do agree with what you say about the indoor meetings, most of those staged in this country have been a farce. the only venues that resembled real speedway were brighton and bournemouth because they ran on a shale surface.
  23. so the 1969 season at plymouth should be removed from the record books!.
  24. was high beech the first meeting to be licensed by the ACU in this country.
