Dutch Speedway 2013
manchesterpaul replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
Any news of overseas speedway is much appreciated and definitely worth interest. Ouch sad news indeed regards the lack of a crowd, especially when a fair amount of effort goes into staging a meeting. What sort of attendance does the Veenoord meeting get these days and how does it compare to say the 70's or 80's? I presume like most speedway there was a boom with massive crowds in decades earlier than that? On the whole are speedway meetings run in the Netherlands on a amateur/love of the sport basis or is it intended as a business with promoters wanting to make money! ? -
He had a skull cap on that went across his forehead and a big plaster underneath that. His manager was unsure if he'd play this week because the healing skin was very thin but.....wow when he took it all off at the end of the match as he was walking off the pitch you had to look really hard to see the errrrrrm 'join' lol.

Touch wood heat 8 was a sign of things to come racing wise and not a one-off. Hopefully any casual viewers would have taken heed of the commentators mention in the early part of the meeting that racing usually improves during a meeting. Something i've mentioned a thousand times to those who come on writing a meeting off during the early stages. We shall wait and see if that last race was an exception or not. Wow KK Kool

Crowd making a fair bit of noise seem enthusiastic, even before Jurica's win. Ooops commentator doesn't agree but they sounded loud to me during the race. It is a purpose built speedway stadium which had a lot of thought and design go into it. I think it usually provides good racing? Maybe it's his bike that is the problem for Woffinden? He's been pretty disappointing so far.

Heat 5 clash of the winners and seconds might give us a good race. I did see one heat from afar (just got home still settling down) that looked a good race. UPDATE: or maybe they'll be strung out lol. Ok next race only one point scored between the four riders, surely we got a cracker now lol Hope Woffinden not riding too safely tonight. He didn't really attempt his outside overtake until a wide gap had been created. I thought it was supposed to be a near sell-out from articles i read during the week. Also, there was some mention of hundreds of kids allowed in free.

Don't get me wrong it is very good indeed that speedway can get to stage an event in a prestigious modern stadium, it's a feather in the cap for the sport indeed. However going on recent attendances in Gothenburg and Stockholm as myself and others mentioned when it was announced a crowd of even 25,000 will look BAD!!! Having said that it's a pleasant surprise indeed that 16,000 tickets have already been sold. I venture that is far higher than many would have thought. Of course it could have been even more as i mention below. That is fantastic news although it won't necessarily pay the largest dividends this year or make for a huge crowd for a couple of reasons. The advertising will likely be too out of the blue and sudden for a lot of people to go splashing out on what presumably will not be the cheapest entertainment event at short notice. However, the drip drip effect of seeing the publicity will lodge in people's heads for the next time. I appreciate the enormous costs of staging the GP in the stadium but i reckon the organizers have missed a golden opportunity to attract a truly massive crowd and newcomers to the sport. It's going back to the old argument of which is better a 20,000 crowd at relatively expensive ticket prices or 50,000 at a much lower price. Can you imagine the atmosphere and feel good factor of a full or near full stadium, it would certainly entice many to come back the following year. One presumes the meeting as it stands is going to make a loss (?) so why not build for the future events and get inside those other than speedway die hards. I'm sure there would be many Swedish families who would love to attend anything at such a magnificent arena as a day/evening out. For them to see that there is a truly affordable event and something other than a usual sport they see ad nauseum such as football would be very enticing. Then like i say what an enjoyable experience it would be to be in a very large crowd and the 'spectacle' of speedway. The pricing of major sporting events will always be high and therefore unlikely to attract those who have no previous interest in a sport. So i reckon a ground breaking opportunity missed for speedway not to take an innovative step and heavily cut expected ticket costs to a bargain level - not necessarily unprofitable for the promoters by any means. A head turning affordable price would surely attract the man/woman/family to such a fine stadium to see a sport other than the standard same old, same old ones they are fed daily all their lives. -
How many English speedway sites have Dutch versions! lol #1 Hmmmm so long as you don't mind seeing words such as B*****D and S**T which you frequently see in translations and they are not being used as swear words in the original language either lol #2. Joking aside agree with you strongly on using Google Translate, especially if you are using Google Chrome and have it set to automatically translate any page not in English. FREE AVAILABLE as of NOW! Saturday, 14th, September, 2013. Just came on to ask if you knew how ticket sales were going. Isn't Stockholm one of the most expensive cities in Europe? Is it expensive for Swedes outside of the city too? Even with 20,000 in such a stadium it's not going to look too good on TV. On the other hand a jam packed Malilla would look great. There's a fair chance Tai Woffinden could become world champion at this meeting which might trigger little news snippets on tv and photographs in the press here in the UK and empty seats and spaces never look good for any sport. It's not just speedway where TV broadcasters are keen to create an impression of LOTS of people being in attendance inferring something exciting or worth viewing is going on. NASCAR in the USA is concerned that despite attendances over 100,000 people will be put off watching or going to the sport because of the sight of empty seats in a 150,000 capacity stadium! Don't take my word for it as i posted elsewhere recently a snippet from an article in the US......... With billions of dollars guaranteed for NASCAR TV rights til 2020 and 2024, discussions have now surfaced of removing those empty grandstands at many Sprint Cup venues. On television, those empty seats look Bad - Bad with a capital B. We’ve seen those empty spaces disguised with sponsors banners, and broadcast networks have been very careful about not panning the spaces with their coverage. Don’t you think that those hollow canyons must have a psychological effect on fans in attendance. They must think, “Why did I come to this race?” -

Nicolai Klindt riding for two teams in this race there two of him thanks graphics man Reminds me of when years ago when BBC did a meeting from Hyde Road, the BLRC i think, and it was exactly the same. Noooo i fail just at the end as my stream froze and as i refreshed the line-up was disappearing lol. And the result of the following race disappeared of the screen so quick i couldn't get to grab a screenshot lol. Going in to the last heat it should be 39-34-36-23? Although it has been exceedingly gloomy the last couple of races. Anyway ESBJERG CHAMPIONS CONGRATS. -

They already used a joker in heat 12 with Kildemand grabbing the full 6 points. I would presume they are limited to just the one joker? ? did i I'll have to be careful discussing races if you've got a temporary super lag in your transmission. You've been running level up to now going on your postings. Did you look away and miss it live only to see the re-runs of the incident? HANG ON......mine was the last post in the thread (timed at 7:02) when i posted so it just added my later new comment into that post. So no lag anywhere. -

They just showed woman on woman kiss well i never, maybe now we know why graphics man so discombobulated. Got to express thanks mind to Kanal Sport they've given us a lot meetings over the season and all for free in good quality. Not sure if i got heat 15 wrong there was it Blue or Red first lol??? Two jokers in this race at least i saw that lol. They must only have one joker card available at the track too they had to hold it between the two of them and go to different gates. WOW GRAPHICS ARE CORRECT FINALLY Ouch a crash. If there was to be one in that race i would have thought it would involve Nicki and Iversen and not the other two. -

I'm well chuffed i'm pretty confident i got all the riders scores and heat results correct now. Lol no problem in ditching the racecards but you should know by now to always trust what you see with your own eyes and, not that you'll instantly turn to stone but, never ever cast your eyes in the direction of the graphics! It looks like it's Esbjerg's crown for the taking now. I'm wondering if Hans is waitng for a late pay cheque and riding accordingly the last couple of heats Don't forget the subsections of subsections and block or bold letterings lol. -

I tally with that (thanks to yourself earlier) but graphics man has 23-23-11-18!!!!!!!!!!! Kildemand a replacement this heat in case anyone missed it. I see they wiped out the riders scores for this graphic lol they must be trying to correct things. Nobody at all is arguing honestly, least of all Alan. Lol i nearly ripped mine up t0o but knew it was graphics man messing up. I dislike the four team format being used today when all season it was a pair of riders in each race for a match. -
