I have never actually seen a punch up at a meeting, but i remember my brother telling me a bout a Wilkie/Mavis incident at BV.. John Davis brought down Al an Wilkinson on the first bend. All 4 back.. Davis was sitting at the pit gate waiting for the rerun whilst Wilkinson was walking back to the pits. He walked straight up to davis and pulled on his monkey mask and let it twang in to his face...ouch..

I remember him when he was at Belle Vue. I dont think he started off too well at Hyde Road with a few ef's in his first official match and then got a maximum against Coventry ?? in a league cup match...and if i remember rightly it was the saturday after a rain off at Newcastle. We passed a few riders coming out of Newcastle but carried on so we would know were the track was for next time..needless to and i ain't been back there since.
1984 was the year and BV battered everyone out of site and got pipped for the league and KOC by Ipswich.
and that was my only visit to Foxhall and i ain't been back there either.

Somerset every time, can't get to that place enough.......would love to see the Elite boys going round there..
Of the teams that are no longer around i would say Halifax & Cradley were my favourites..

Does anyone ever drive to Prague? we may well be going but I won't be able to book a flight till much nearer the date.
In 06 i seen Julian Parr in a bar (not the atlas bar) and he got there by car. Well it was a van actually and i think he said it took him just shy of 24hrs.
I've been there, once by mistake, honestly.Same here

The Atlas bar is good place to spend a few hours. I even bumped into a few ex riders in there. Not the kind of place you take your missus mind.

I got standing tickets last year and have again this year.There were loads of brits around us last year. At least if you are standing you can move on if you dont like who is next to you.
Is anyone else staying in the U Tri Korunek hotel in Praha 3, there were a few Workington fans in here last year.

Credit where it's due though Rabski, Leigh is media friendly whereas the ginger one isn't slow to tell them where to go if things are going against him.

Speaking of Tony, it is sad to see a great champion like him seemingly going through the motions. Before the season started it was understandable that he would want to try and beat Mauger's 6 titles and set himself apart with 7, but it all seems to have gone to pot for him. Bottom line, he is a great champion, arguably the greatest ever
If the Gp series had been around in Mauger's time he would have had another 5/6 titles to win to catch him. Great Champion yes the greatest ever no way.
A true champion wins it over 5 rides on one night, not a series of meetings that you dont even have to win.

Not the best track was it, you would think they would have it down to a fine art by now.
Adams done the usual, when i matters he chokes.
Crump, the championship is all but done and dusted.
Rickardsson does not look interested, he just seems to be going through the motions.
Nicholls just lacking that final push as usual.
And Andersen stuck it up BSI.
Overall not a bad meeting considering the first couple of races.

Now you know why it is talked about so much, a great race track.
I also have this meeting, tho my copy doesn't have heat 4(i think it is)when Mort broke the track record.
Also have the last ever meeting,1987 BLRC.
You can get old speedway clips(some of Hyde Rd) from Wally Loak and there is a series out called Aces of Yesteryear,these were done by Roy Nicol but he doesn't film the Aces anymore so don't know if they are available.
Didn't Kenny Carter break it in this meeting as well ? then Mort lowered it to 66.4 ?

The whole day is excellent. They should be selling out the venue by now. They advertise in the Speedway Star and on sky but people who buy the mag and watch the Sky matches know that it is happening. If you dont buy the mag or watch the Sky matches, where are you going to see it advertised ?.

I think its a good idea. It seems a bit of a rip off when you think you spend hard earned money on petrol, entrance and all the other bits for 15 mins entertainment.

great racing makes you want elite league instead of crap pl!That PL crap serves up better racing than El i think.
Ivan Mauger as you know won the WC 6 times, and to a lot of people, he was boring and predictable. But these guys are in a class of their own. One day you'll look back on your speedway past and think "yes, Tony was the best".
When Mauger was in his element a riders skill was more important, now you just need a really fast bike.

Look, I've got nothing against Tony R, but you have to admit that it makes the world championship rounds as boring as hell when he runs away with every race & every round. Yes he's a brilliant rider, but I want to see at least two or three riders minimum battling it out to be world champion, not one rider slaughtering everyone else. So far I've been bored sh1tless watching this years GP's.
I agree 100% but its up the other 15 to up there game.
