For a Riders Registration Application (you will first need an ACU licence costing £47 there is a reduction for some first time youth licences to around £25 I think) cost for a youth riders registration is £52 less £5 if you don't wish to be a member of the Speedway Riders Association ( A new licence application must be supported by an endorsement from a SCB nominated training instructer) , contact Nikki e-mail address:- nikki@britishspeedway.plus.com she will point you right for all you need to do. As for helmets I wouldn't entertain a second hand one it's far to much of a risk, buy the best helmet you can we always spend a fortune on helmets cause you can't be to protective of your head always with an ACU gold sticker, goggles run from about £15 upwards, kevlar suits vary in price from almost worn totally out to near new. Hope you enjoy your chosen sport its a great sport to be involved in.

Ignore him, he's not worth the effort the right people helped Adam when he needed it and we felt they should be thanked publicly to prove that not everyone are asses. The U15's this year are a great bunch. He's already had one posting removed so why worry about him. -

Caroline and myself would like to thank everyone for everything they did on Saturday for Adam whilst were away. We have no names as Adam was obviously not exactly with it but Andy Taylor,Dale and Scott Campos you were stars Juliette thanks for tearing to the track for Adam as well, kerry warvill for the offer of looking after Adams bikes and Dale allitt for saying he would look after Adam and make sure he was ok as well, also the unknown person for the burger stuffed into Adams hand, he has no idea who you were but thank you. To everyone else we haven't mentioned that did anything in the slightest for Adam we thank everyone of you, you are all great people. Best wishes Caroline and Mark (p.s. you all have just seen the shortest speedway career in history Lol.) -

First start in 250's back to tapes with Reece Downs excluded presumambly for touching the tapes, rerun Brandon Freemantle comfortably in the lead, on the 3rd lap (i think) looked like Nathan Stoneman ran into the back of Robert Lambert and high sided, from what we've heard at Newport, injured his hip/thigh and chipped a bone in his arm. Well done to Brandon and hope Nathan recovers from any/all injuries soon.

Under 15 Round 3 --weymouth . Sat 13th June
p'boro lad replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
I personally Froze noone out, we was invited along to ride in some second halves, along with Dale Lamb, Brendon Warvill, Marc Owen to name but a few, I didn't arrange them someone else did. I was no more responsible than any of those parents for what you seem to think happened. As far as we knew Shane only rode at Lakeside, Eastbourne and Sittingbourne, as we rode at Peterborough and a few training days at Kings Lynn and even fewer at Sittingbourne we hardly came across each other anyway. The only time we rode with/against Shane was in the U15's 3 to 4 years ago when the 250's were being paraded around by Peter Oakes, and I seem to remember that even then Shane was soon racing 500's on his 250 and doing very well. Shane is a talented rider who really doesn't deserve the injuries that he has had of late, and as far as we know we don't have a problem with Shane and his family, although if we have enlighten me as we do ride occasionally at STR and so does Shane. As for yourself and Chris I'm sorry, but do we know you? -

Still avoiding the question then! I think that knowing nothing about you or football, as you know nothing about racing a speedway bike or the riders, my opinion is that it was a sunday morning/pub league team that was "the strongest team in the league" (holding everyone else up) and you spent all your time on the bench fetching the half time refreshments for the real players, in that case then. -

Sadly its a no but i have played on all their grounds and earnt a living out of the game for almost 10yrs This season is the worst turn out in the 500cc as some decent young riders have left the sport for other things. But i hope you all enjoy it With people like you "Dissing" their parents reactions and there riding you can't wonder they have left the sport. You really have to be thick skinned to be able to carry on sometimes. Who did you play football for? Do we know them? Not Acrington Stanley or some equal team? You know everyone you have spoke against on here, but you hide behind a nickname, very grown up and mature. I'm sorry but until you use your real name or even better introduce your self to us all, your comments should be deleted. -

Moosetash64, everyone one is allowed to celebrate every little milestone in speedway, to flip a bike at the start of a race and to then carry on with the thought in the back of your mind that it could happen again at every start you do takes courage (or as one ex-rider told us "your brains left in your toolbox") All the lads out there have a lot more courage than most people on here slaging them off. I take my hat off to each and everyone of them. One day one of these socalled "wobblers" ( I hate that term with a passion as all riders had to learn) could be our next greatest speedway hope. I hope that yourself and Adam don't let it get you down enjoy your latest achievement, I know we did. Also hope that Kyle and Daryl have recovered from their accident. You will find below a Quote from a Letter sent by # Name Removed # to all U15 competitors:- Far be it for me to give you words of advice as far as riding a bike is concerned, but some words of wisdom I would like to share with you are these - "The minute you stop trying to succeed, is the minute you will start to fail." You all have a great talent, for it is not an easy thing to ride Speedway. and however good or bad, you might think you are at the moment, there will be room for improvement. For some it will take a lot longer than others, but you all have the capability, the ambition and the courage to race, so don't give up. We all want to see more British World Champions lift that most sought after prize in the sport, and, who knows, it could well be one of you guys one day. Well done on your achievements so far, and the best of luck in the rest of the competition. # Name Removed #. David is a man that we have spoken to and understands the commitment (monetary and time wise in the hope that things go right for your son or daughter for an amazing career/life to develop) by parents and families, a great man who is full of praise for any rider "however good or bad". Keep it up all the U15 riders it's been a great series with good racing, we're really enjoying our time involved in it. -

It was ok a couple of years ago As I know Adam Portwood rode against 500 at an acadamy meeting then, but don't think so any more, But if you mean 2 500 team and then 2 250 team meetings in one day, I don't think there are 14 250 riders in the whole country not sure though. -

one rider this year is still competing on 250's at 15yrs but you are able to upgrade to 500 at 14, so no I don't think there is an upper age limit at all just a guide line age. -

That would be because the minimum age for a 500cc licence was raised to 14 (not 15) only 2 years ago up until then all you had to do to get a licence at any age was prove to 2 trainers that you could ride around a track in control. Our son at 9 had proved enough to one trainer that he was "good" enough for a 500 licence until sense prevailed, and I know that Dan Greenwood has had a 500 licence for several years now, his dad will confirm just how many. Although according to rule 19.4.1 'youth riders must only ride motorcycles (cc) for which they are registered, except that under the direct supervision of a training instructor a youth rider may ride a larger cc motorcycle for the purposes of training and assessment.' so once again you can ride a 500 at any age just not 'race' -
We've been able to get food in in the past but never drink, can't see what the difference is though

250's At Peterborough Thurs 19th June
p'boro lad replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
"The second half on Thursday at Peterborough will feature a six heat six man (or is it lad??) 250cc individual featuring Matty Allitt, Coner Dwyer, Rhys Naylor, Marc Owen, Adam Portwood and Tom Stokes. 4 rides each --should be entertaining." What a great night was had by Adam, Matty, Conor, Rhys and Tom. I would like to thank Colin and Trevor for allowing us to have a second half, also a big thanks to Laurence Rogers for once again all the hard work behind the scenes to put this meeting on. There was some fast and controlled and entertaining racing with several tight first bends. Well done everyone, you all did the 250's proud and everyone seems to be getting quicker every time we meet. Hopefully another invite for us at Peterborough will come along soon.
