daveallan81
Peter Turle is credited with riding one match for Rye House at Weymouth in 1984. A previous post on here from 2008 reckoned he was a south coast based junior borrowed by the Rockets as #8. However I have a programme from 20th May 1984 Poole v Swindon Juniors that has a Paul Terle (note spelling) riding in the second half. I also have a programme from 17th June Poole v Exeter Juniors that has a Paul Turle riding at #6 for Exeter. In both instances the name has been written in and not printed in the programme. Both are marked to a high standard, indeed the Swindon one may be a ref's copy as it is signed. Just to throw a further spanner into the works, I have a programme from 8th October at Exeter with a Wessex Junior league match v Poole who have a Paul Turtle listed in their team. The programme isn't marked though. Can anyone clarify this situation? Are Peter and Paul one and the same? Is it Turle. Terle or Turtle? Fairly sue there was a South Coast junior, Peter Turle, around that time. No recollection of a Paul or a Terle.
bigdave Posted yesterday at 11:18 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 11:18 AM This is the only entry in the Speedway Riders Index 1929-2022: Peter TURLE Career record: (1984) Rye House. There is no mention in the index of any rider with the surname Terle or Turtle I believe the index only lists riders who have ridden in Official fixtures, not second halves or junior meetings. But a few could have earned the nickname Tortoise.
moxey63
Peter Turle rode one National League match as a stand-in for Rye House at Weymouth on September 11, 1984 (scoring one and a bonus from one ride). His call-up came after Steve Naylor, Chris Chaplin and Gary Rolls were missing for Rye House, who used locally based youngsters in their place. Turle was possibly a Poole/Weymouth junior and appeared in a few individual meetings (as a reserve) at Poole in 1984.
