  10. Former World Champion Billy “The Bullet” Hamill won a titanic battle with National Champion Billy “The Kid” Janniro and captured the first event of the Southern California regular season at the 2012 Season Opener at Inland Motorcycle Speedway in San Bernardino. Janniro and “Battling” Buck Blair both entered the main event with perfect scores. Janniro won the draw for first gate choice and selected gate one. Blair stated, “I don’t want to be the meat in that (Janniro and Hamill) sandwich” and picked gate four. Hamill, having only been defeated by Janniro in the heats, chose gate two which left Tyson Burmeister with gate three. Hamill exploded from the tapes and held the advantage entering turn one and down the back straight, but Blair’s race ended when he fell in turn two. Janniro didn’t concede the victory to Hamill after just one lap and closed ground on the leader. Both racers went deep into turn three but Janniro cut his corner a little tighter to try to charge under Hamill on the front straight, but couldn’t manage enough speed to get by. Hamill remained on the cushion and Janniro tried the same strategy as they reached the white flag, but again it was to no avail. Hamill withstood the constant pressure and was first to the checkered flag. Janniro had to settle for second, Burmeister finished third, and Blair was credited with fourth. Hamill dominated the first heat while Burmeister’s evening began on a sour note when a bike problem caused him to miss the race. Jimmy Fishback, the Southern California season points champion last year, began his season with a heat win over Aaron Fox. Janniro stormed to victory in the third heat. Blair held off “Fast” Eddie Castro to win heat four. Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell ended round one with a victory over Tim Gomez. Blair began round two by beating Fishback. Burmeister won the next hear while Neil Facchini made a brilliant outside move to get second. Hamill defeated Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz in event 15. McConnell was awarded the victory in the next heat with Michael Raines getting second. Janniro finished the second round by defeating Castro. Hamill started the third round with a defeat of Steve Russell for his third straight win. Janniro matched Hamill’s three consecutive wins by handing McConnell his first loss in the next heat. Schwartz led the first lap of event 28 before Burmeister went around the outside of him for the lead and his second win. Gomez was leading the next heat handily when a problem with his throttle on the last lap handed the victory to former Under 21 National Champion Justin Boyle. Blair kept pace with Hamill and Janniro by with his third win in a row to complete round three. McConnell opened the final round by defeating Castro. Fox beat Facchini in event 35. Burmeister made it three straight wins with a win over Gomez. Event 37 was the heat race everyone had circled in their program. Hamill and Janniro squared off in a battle of undefeated riders with Fishback joining them at the tapes. Janniro made the best start with Hamill in tow. A fierce four-lap battle ensued with Janniro holding off every challenge that Hamill could muster for a hard-earned victory. Blair made a great start from gate four in the final heat to remain undefeated and place himself directly into the main event along with Janniro. Hamill and McConnell were tied for the third and final direct spot in the main event. However, in an effort to expedite the program and in a great show of sportsmanship, McConnell put his promoter hat on and declined a runoff with Hamill and placed himself in the Last Chance. Schwartz, Castro, and Facchini had to contest a runoff to fill the final spot in the Last Chance. Schwartz led for two laps, but a bit of grip in the wrong spot in turn two straightened him up and sent him toward the wall. By the time he recovered, Castro was past him and he went on to victory. Burmeister led from gate one in the Last Chance with McConnell trying to make the outside work through turns one and two. Burmeister secured the lead on the back straight and never looked back. His victory put him in the four-rider main event. Marvin Sonnier led all four laps en route to victory in the Second Division Main Event. “Rattlesnake” Steve Bowen finished second, Kip McClain was third, and Rudy Laurer was credited with fourth. Jake Hansen led the first lap of the Third Division Main Event, but was overtaken by Kayle LeoGrande as they entered turn one the second time. Kayle LeoGrande was never challenged the rest of the way and was first to the finish line. Tim McGrath finished second, Hansen was third, Ron Davis finished fourth, Dan Eddy was fifth, and J.D. Myerscough was credited with sixth. Dalton Leedy was the initial leader in the Youth 250cc Main Event, but Max Ruml went past him on the second lap. Max Ruml lengthened his lead with each lap and went on to victory. Dillon Ruml finished second and Leedy was third. Adam Herkner started the Youth 200cc Main Event at the front but was under attack from Sebastian Palmese as they entered turn three. Both riders went wide in turn four and Braydan Galvin made a brilliant cutback move to storm underneath both riders. Galvin immediately pulled away and cruised to victory. Palmese was second, Herkner finished third, Dryden LeoGrande was fourth, Michael Wells finished fifth, and Chase Sanborn was sixth. Sara Cords was victorious in the Pee Wee Main Event. Luke Whitcomb was second, Julia Pierson finished third, Juliann Copeland was fourth, Nick Dunn finished fifth, Gavin Kearney was sixth, and Jonas LeoGrande was seventh. Joe Jones and Jonny Glover led from start to finish and won the Sidecar Main Event. Rod Requejo and Gene Stone finished second, Dual Anderson and Matt Davis were third, and Jeff Rowe and Josh Bennett finished fourth. The event marked the beginning of the fourth consecutive season of speedway at IMS. The pits were full as more than 60 racers and four sidecar teams competed. The competitors were greeted by a large and enthusiastic crowd and a well-prepared track allowed the racers to provide great racing. IMS will host the most speedway events in the United States in 2012 with the season concluding on October 5. Greg Hancock

I am hearing that it is Monster Energy. It makes sense considering their connection to Greg already.
  12. I was wondering if anyone knows of any links to live results for tomorrow's FIM World Under 21 Team Qualifier in Rivne, Ukraine. Or even if there will be any sort of internet streaming of a live broadcast? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The USA U21 Team has a lot of fans and supporters who would like to follow the results. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide help.
  13. If success is measured in marked improvement and overwhelmingly positive reviews, then the USA U21 Speedway Team Practice at Perris Raceway on Saturday can be viewed as a smashing success. Nine USA U21 Team Members from Southern California and three Team Members from Northern California spent five hours on the race track receiving instruction and tips about their racing technique, bike setup, and making better starts from former World Champion Greg Hancock. In addition to on-track instruction, Hancock also gave them advice about racing and life in Europe. The group was also joined by two injured Team Members who still saw the value in learning from watching and listening to Hancock give instructions to others as well as his advice about competing in Europe. Team Members who attended the event were Ricky Wells, Jason Ramirez, Gino Manzares, Bryce Starks, Ricky Felicio, Brad Pappalardo, Joey Holt, Dylan Black, Gabe Price, Brandon Leedy, Fred Cook, Joey St. Louis, and injured racers Austin Novratil and Rocco Scopellite. The day began with the racers getting reacquainted with the Team Members that they already knew and meeting those that they hadn’t known prior to the afternoon. The team gathered together for a roll call, introductory session, and a brief preview of the day from Hancock. The team members then posed on the track for a team photo shoot decked out in their USA U21 Speedway Team Member shirts, including Honorary Team Member Hancock. The racers took to the track in groups of three under the watchful eyes of Professor Hancock. Whenever Hancock saw something that could be improved he would stop the racer and give him one-to-one direct instruction either verbally or by physically showing the racer how their technique could be improved. He also gave suggestions about gearing and bike setup as well. During the first track preparation Hancock talked to the riders collectively before they hit the track again for more direct instruction. During the second track preparation Hancock shared some of his experiences from his 22 seasons that he has spent racing in Europe. He also gave advice about lifestyle and attitude. The racers listened intently and it was obvious that they were soaking up every word that was spoken. They truly appreciated getting advice about speedway life in Europe from a true expert who has actually experienced the life that they hope to someday have for themselves. The racers took to the track for another session of their racing technique and it this point in the afternoon it was obvious to even the untrained eye that every racer had improved in just a couple hours. Satisfied looks from racers, parents, and supporters throughout the pits. Then the eight-time National Champion spent the final teaching session improving the toughest aspect of speedway – starts. The racers came to the tapes in pairs and after each start they would receive direct instruction from one of the World’s best gaters. Every racer was faster to turn one after their lesson than they were before it. Hancock was so focused on teaching the racers and helping them get better that he eschewed getting practice laps for himself until the final 30 minutes of the day. The racers and spectators stopped everything they were doing to watch the master at work and to learn even more. As if the racers weren’t busy enough riding and learning throughout the day, they were also conducting interviews for Speedwaywebcast.com. Their five-man crew was busy running all over the facility filming interviews, practice action, one-to-one instruction, and also casual conversations that took place. A couple of group photos have already been posted on the USA U21 Speedway Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/groups/usau21speedway ) for our fans to view and other pictures will be added shortly. If you have not joined our Facebook page, please click on the link and join. The rave reviews and positive feedback led to suggestions of another practice session being conducted as soon as possible. We received some suggestions for different practice formats. The February speedway schedule in Southern California means there are a limited number of available weekend dates, but USA U21 Speedway will attempt to have a public announcement soon. USA U21 Speedway and all of its Team Members would like to thank Greg Hancock for spending his afternoon to help 14 young men become better racers. His instruction will help them become better racers and will also make the racing in America that much better as well. USA U21 Speedway thanks all of the racers who took advantage of this incredible opportunity and for their parents and supporters who brought them to the track. All of the racers were extremely positive and professional throughout the day while also maintaining their youthful exuberance. USA U21 Speedway would also like to thank Freddie Edwards and the Southern California Flat Track Association for providing a wonderfully prepared race track; Carrie Hancock and Carrie Hancock Speedway Promotions for coordinating this practice and for diligently working at the front gate; the Speedwaywebcast.com crew of Mike Salyer, Phil Hakopian, Darin Purcell, John Rudow, and Jeff Clair for all their hard work and their vision of the future; Tom Fox for volunteering to work in the infield and the starting gate; and Sherry Child for running the USA U21 Team Gear merchandise stand. USA Under 21 Speedway greatly appreciates all the support at this event as well as other events and fundraisers that we plan on having in the very near future. USA U21 Speedway will be posting more details regarding these in the coming days. The USA will begin their quest at the Qualifying Round on Sunday, May 1, 2011 in Rivne, Ukraine. The other teams in the meeting will be Finland, Slovenia, and the host nation, Ukraine. The American team will travel to Britain and compete in several matches there before going to the FIM Qualifier meeting. The entire trip would take approximately two to three weeks. The teams finishing first and second in the Qualifying Round will then compete in the Semi-Final Rounds in Rawicz, Poland or Diedenbergen, Germany on Saturday, May 28. The top teams for the Semi-Finals progress to the Final which will be held in Balakavo, Russia on Saturday, September 3. USA Under 21 Speedway, LLC is a not-for-profit organization founded by Richard Child, Gary Gomez, and Ryan Evans to further develop young American speedway racers to improve their skills individually and to return the United States to a prominent level in international speedway.
