Small Request From Russian Friends
Aces51 replied to Alex Krokhin's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
You will find an on-line magazine Speedway Xtra here http://www.speedwaystar.net/Xtra.aspx On the back page are details of how to subscribe to get a copy of Speedway Star sent to you. Not perhaps what you wanted but hope it helps. -
It would be better not to dig up issues which were discussed ad nauseum at the time. However, it seems that a few posters are intent on doing so but not presenting a true picture. The reality is that the then Coventry promotion and Peterborough couldn't get their own way and instead of accepting the democratic decisions of the BSPA, tried to get what they wanted by using their financial muscle to threaten legal action which could have closed down the sport. When the BSPA stood up to them they then introduced the idea of an independent body to their argument. I happen to agree that we need an independent body to oversee the implementation of the rules and said so at the time but let's not try to re-write history by pretending that Coventry and Peterborough were the good guys. They were doing what many others have done before and since by trying to look after their own self interests but the way they went about it was wrong. The BSPA do much that is wrong but in this instance they did exactly the right thing by not giving in to these threats.

You have to feel for Rory the number of bad injuries he has had over the years. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
Aces51 replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
There was an article in the programme for the Swindon match on the 8th July, 2013 informing fans that ISG had been appointed. My recollection is that the plans were only announced when they were because the Manchester Evening News leaked the story. -
What we need is a Team Manager who can see that there is no point persevering with the likes of Barker and Kennett, accepts that we are not going to achieve anything at the moment and who can identify, nurture and motivate the best talent and give them every opportunity to achieve their potential. Middleditch is clearly not that man. He told us that he believes we should pick the strongest team possible, which he didn't do anyway. His philosophy may be acceptable if we were in with a realistic chance of winning something but not if the predictable reality is that we were going to be also rans. There are riders out there, Cook, Worrall, Howarth, Birks etc., who have the potential to be better than what we have now but who need to be introduced as soon as they have reached a level where they can gain from the experience of riding in the SWC. We shall continue to decline if we ignore them or, drop them after one meeting.

Swc, Event Two, King's Lynn 15/7
Aces51 replied to Northern Exile's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I agree it was a poor performance but to say he does not have the ability is way off the mark. He has been riding for only four years and made rapid progress. He is already the top rider in the PL and achieving a good EL CMA, that is proof of his ability. The question here is do Team GB want to use riders who's performances have reached a plateau and who have already been tried and failed, or, do we accept we are not going to win anything this year and give the best of those riders who are still improving invaluable experience at this level. The latter choice is the only way forward. As for Middleditch, it is not a question of the lack of strength in depth. He chose Kennett, who anyone with sense could see was out of form, in preference to the likes of King and Barker, A monumental error of judgement with the result everyone expected. -
Belle Vue Aces Vs Poole Pirates 29/4/2013
Aces51 replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I have no problem with the fine or deduction of points and in principle with having to call in an SCB official to postpone future meetings. However, in practical terms I fear that the latter sanction may result in situations where matches are postponed much later than they might otherwise be, because of the availability of these officials and the main people to suffer then will be fans making wasted journeys. -
Belle Vue Aces Vs Poole Pirates 29/4/2013

I have remained silent on this issue believing, as I have on may other issues, that the correct course was to await knowing the facts or, in this case, the outcome of the investigation. We have now reached that stage and plainly, the actions taken by the Belle Vue management were totally unacceptable and the punishment is deserved. We all know that this is far from the first time that clubs have postponed meetings in dubious circumstances but that in no way excuses what occurred. Let us hope that these proceedings serve as a warning not only to Belle Vue but to other clubs who might consider calling off meetings without valid reason in the future.- 755 replies

Emil does seem a nice lad when I have seen him interviewed. I'm sure all our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. -

A fantastic meeting, brilliant to see Tai doing so well, he has certainly stepped up a class this year and special mention for Matej Zagar, a deserved second place on the podium. It just shows how good this sport of ours can be. -
Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
Aces51 replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Bought mine when first advertised and blackmailed family to buy some as well, although I think I ended up paying for them. Thinking it's now time to buy another. What more could anyone want than to be immortalised in stone (ok, brick then) at the home of the world famous Belle Vue Aces. You can even buy a paver and have it inscribed with the name of someone you don't like and watch everyone walk all over it. Fans of opposing clubs could raise funds and have a Matt Ford concourse (joke, before anyone starts). :t: -

It's good to see that the local councillor is onside. That can only help with any planning issues raised by local residents. http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Motorsport/British+Speedway -
Reading Speedway - Plans Submitted For New Stadium Development
Aces51 replied to The H Man's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I sincerely hope this isn't the end of the road for a new stadium and feel for all Reading fans. -
That wasn't the point. I was just making fun of TNT's ambiguous post, not a serious comment about Ludvig's ability.
-
So you don't think he is better than reserve standard, a bit harsh, you should be giving the lad encouragement.
-
It would be good to see him realise his undoubted potential. I hope he does.
-
It's good to see that a number of clubs have managed to secure new sponsorship this year and that some of them are not just for this season. Well done to Lakeside et al.
-
But don't come back.
-
If Belle Vue were to offer him a place but he turned it down because he didn't want to ride there, he could hardly claim he was being denied the right to work. In any event, as a non EU citizen, does he have any such rights?
-
Patrick will be a good signing providing he regains his confidence after his bad crash last year. Another season at Kirky Lane would have done him no good at all. There is every chance he will increase his average significantly at EOS but would not have done so had he stayed at Belle Vue. I wish him well.
-
Sounds about right, that would be about £41,500 at £40a brick.:-)
-
With that Wolves team it looks a if CVS is determined to deprive us of the wooden spoon. :-)

The above is a quote replying to a comment on another thread questioning if Belle Vue had paid the transfer fee for Rory Schlein. Make of it what you will but it could be interpreted that Rory was approached long befpre August, not to say though that was necessarily by Kings Lynn. Perhaps it is just coincidence that he has ended up there.

A brilliant initiative and exactly what is needed to encourage British talent. Well done to the Lakeside management and Hagon Shocks.

No Gjedde, no Cook, no points.
