Polish Extraleague Rnd 6 Sunday 22nd May

Just turned this on, what a pleasure to see a proper rider introduction. One of my pet hates is riders putting their helmets on so that the crowd can't see their faces when introduced. I guess it helps to have a crowd to intoduce to though... Two high-quality line-ups, is that what encourages the big crowds? (Or do the big crowds allow the classy line-ups?)

  6. Mildenhall Fen Tigers management team admit they are growing "very frustrated" at the continuing delays in getting clearance for teenage Australian star Cameron Heeps to join the rest of the team. The club fought off a number of other sides to sign the 15 year old, rated as one of the best prospects from Down Under for years. After not making it for the start of the season, it had been hoped that Heeps would be here in time for Sunday's National League clash against Belle Vue Colts at West Row. But the paperwork needed for him to come to this country is taking far longer to complete than anyone expected. Mildenhall co promoter Michael Lee said, "We had hoped the Australian immigration people would have given us some idea of how much longer this is going to take to sort out. But unfortunately it doesn't work like that. So like Cameron, who just wants to come over and race, we have to sit and wait." "We do feel we now have to put a time limit on everything coming together, and if there is no positive news by the end of May we'll have to look at alternative options, which is the last thing any of us wants to do as it was a real coup to get Cameron for us and our supporters." Lee added, "Everything else is going brilliantly on and off the track and now we can't wait for Sunday's match against the Colts. We are expecting another big crowd as we try and keep our unbeaten start to the season going. If the match is anything like our opener against Dudley and the away match at King's Lynn, supporters will be in for another treat."
  7. I was very disappointed with the official app yesterday evening. It was extremely slow to update and I didn't get the semis/final until this morning! Was I doing something wrong? I much prefer the original Snowfunk app!
  8. Well done Jake, (joint) top scorer for the third consecutive meeting!

    Nl Agm Cancelled?

    Possibility of two additional teams?
  12. From the BSPA site Exciting plans are being put in place as work begins on finding a new generation of British Speedway talent. Part of this will see the cream of British stars from the Elite and Premier League competing at Somerset on Friday October 29 in the 'Bring on the Brits (BOB)' meeting. And all proceeds from the event will go towards funding for all future Youth speedway events. The project is the brainchild of the British Youth Training Team of Phil Morris, Neil Vatcher, Graham Reeve and Graham Jones, who as well as helping the country's young riders with their racing, will be also working on other aspects of their training. Under-21 team manager Phil Morris is convinced that Britain's got talent and that the Youth Development team can help nurture their undoubted ability. He said: "We have been impressed with our Under-15 riders and think it's now time to help the British lads out even more. "This includes setting up an Academy for the best youngsters so we can work on all aspects of their racing programme; not just riding the bike, but also the fitness, nutrition, psychology and mechanical side of the game. "Britain has been crying out for more big stars and ultimately another World Champion, so it's important that we put the foundations in place at an early stage and help them to maximise their potential. We believe our training programme will assist with that. "Riders for the meeting at the Oak Tree Arena will be confirmed over the next few weeks, but in the meantime we are looking for everyone to get fully behind the BOB campaign!"
  13. It's said that since the day after the last meeting of the 2010 season - long before this saga started.
  14. As Peterborough have now been ruled out of both the Elite and the Premier league, I hope they will be applying to run in the National League for 2011 to preserve the sport at the Showground. I would be delighted if that were the case, but would I be in a minority? With the changes in senior management at the Showground, could NL work for a season with a return to EL in 2012? Over to Mr Frost..... (Edited for typo)
  15. I can't see how that would benefit Peterborough, it's not a racetrack that they haven't got (as far as we know) it's just a league place!
  16. I would be interested to hear other views on Clubs' use of a facility for an Australian rider who has simply gone home before the end of the season. I emphasise that I have no doubt that the rulebook permits this, but is it the right thing for the sport?

    Facilities For 'unavailable' Riders

Thanks Jayne that explains the situation clearly.

    Facilities For 'unavailable' Riders

That certainly WASN'T why I started the thread and I am quite offended you should think so. I made a firm point that there was no allegation of rule-breaking, nor did I mention any specific team or rider. I simply feel it is a point worthy of discussion and it has already obliquely brought to mind another issue - that of consistent rules. If all three leagues did ride to a common code then it would be a non-issue anyway as Jayne has said above.
  20. Nasty accident in Heat 14 of the cup match. Branford went hard inside McDade on the first turn who slid off right in front of Dallaway who, with nowhere to go, ran into and over McDade. Cal was taken off the track in an ambulance then to hospital by county ambulance. First race 7.40, RR delayed proceedings with numerous 'two-on-the-trot', then the unfortunate accident. The second meeting started at 10.20pm. Largest crowd I've seen at NA for an NL meeting Following the Ht 14 accident both teams went into the second match without a No 6

    Newport V Buxton - Nl Playoff 29/10

I think this is the most pertinent post here Rob, and something that really must be addressed this close-season. I won't hold my breath though... As an exercise, I looked at Adam Allott's schedule for the last eight days of the season as he lives close to the Buxton track: Sunday 24th - Buxton - five rides Wednesday 27th - Kings Lynn (double header) - up to twelve rides - 240 miles round trip Friday 29th - Newport - up to six rides - 300 mile round trip Sunday 31st - Buxton - up to six rides How is that sustainable for a supposedly amateur league? When are riders expected to do a day job, sleep, prepare their machines? Other members of the team may well have even more punishing schedules. Newcastles PL schedule is maybe more ridiculous, riding at Ipswich on Thursday, Edinburgh on Friday, and Newcastle on Sunday. The 2011 season spans 33 weeks, surely it is possible to zone the season for each competition?
  24. Apologies, perhaps they could be merged? Mod Note: Sorted
