  1. Apologies if this is not the right place but I am clearing out the loft and have back copies of the Speedway Star which I am looking to get rid of 1st copy was the one covering the 1985 Bradford World Final and I stopped collecting in October 2016. The first 20 odd years are bundled and tied in date sequence with none missing, the last few years may be a bit hit or miss As you can imagine its a big bundle so if anyone wants them then they are welcome to them but will need to collect from Oxford PM me if there is any interest

    Bob Radford R.i.p

Very sad to hear. Bob was a good guy who gave a lot to this great sport RIP

    Rip Bryn

There were indeed some great tributes in what was a really good service. A good number of people, at a guess 100-120 and the service was a fitting send off to the old boy

Golden Helmet Weekend Pardubice 16-18th September

To be fair the train is pretty express, it only stops once between Prague and Pardubice. Problem comes at Pardubice Raliway Station as the transport to the stadium is pretty non existant. Hotels in Pardubice are pretty good though if you choose to stay One era ending moment for me yesterday was the retirement of Ales Dryml after his final ride when he went into the crowd as his home track and gave his helmet to a young fan After some of the horrendous injuries he suffered 9 years ago, I am glad to see him and Lukas now safely retired

    Poole Sign Lindback

People are criticising the fact Poole have made this change and your argument is that they have broken no rules. Nor did Oxford in 2001 but you refused to accept it That is the commonality

    Poole Sign Lindback

Yep but rightly or wrongly he had a Medical Certificate so no rules were broken but that was not OK in that instance. Same now isn't it ? BTW the end of that Dryml era today as Ales retired after his final race in the Czech Golden Helmet today

    Poole Sign Lindback

Some real irony in this one Steve. 15 years ago when a rival club were operating within the rules you didn't have this same view Amazing how its different when the boot is on the other foot

Belle Vue -v- Swindon 19th August

Call it irony, Belle Vue had to blame someone on opening night who was not there so not why not Colin this time. My point was it will not be their fault What on earth that has to do with a promotion of 12/13 years ago is beyond me. We are talking about tonight and I was not there but if you can tell me is was anything other than a balls up then I concede

Belle Vue -v- Swindon 19th August

Are the promotion taking responsibility this time or blaming someone elsE ? Maybe the contractors, the fans, Colin Meredith ? You cab be sure it will not be their fault And still the sport contributes to its own decline I was planning my first EL meeting since 2007 tonight but at least Coventry had the decency to call it off this morning

    Tai Quits Team Gb

Very rarely post these days but what a sad state of affairs when a rider who while I believe has contributed significantly to British speedway but actually benefited hugely from the way British Speedway allowed him to develop yet again kicks his country in the teeth Frankly I could not care less whether he agrees with whatever it is he is criticising the BSPA for in his cryptic tweet but the fact is that as Britains No 1 rider he should damn well make himself available to ride for his country. As for all this maybe in 2018, well for me once he is out he stays out, why should he dictate when he does and does not ride? I said the same when Scot Nicholls threw his teddy out of the pram as well and was glad he was left out of this years WC Time that egos were popped back in the box and riders got on with riding for the country who has supported them, Tai may moan about the BSPA but when he was young and riding in just about every league over here but with no speedway anywhere else in the world he was glad of Britain. Now he is a big fish he wants the sport to dance to his tune Sorry but perspective WC or not he is not bigger than the sport Very very sad for someone who has been treated very well by British Speedway over many year

    Poole 2016

Dangerous comparison between a sport which is on the up and up with money pouring into it at a level that the participants could only ever of dreamed of and a sport that is frankly dying on its arse But if you see speedway as a good comparison to football then fair enough. Personally I think its a dreadful comparison when you talk about the bigger picture

    Poole 2016

He is doing his job, nobody can argue with that. I think the problem is that by doing that he is destroying the Elite League, his financial muscle is talking very loud and clear and you question whether too many other clubs will bother trying to compete because they just can't So for the good of Poole Speedway in the very short term he is doing his job, for the long term future of Poole and for the future of speedway in the UK I would seriously question it Still at the point he has nobody to compete with I guess he will get bored and then Poole may just be left in a mess as well Not sure too many people should be applauding this if you look at the bigger picture

    Belle Vue Grand Opening Refund?

They of course managed to have enough people to take the money in the first place I have given up on the sport over recent years but this one really sums up everything that is so wrong 1. Failed to take any responsibility 2. Blamed contractors but I suspect had the meeting been a success would have gloried in the credit and not mentioned the contractors at that point 3. Failed to process refunds 4. Still want to blame everyone apart from themselves Its a pitiful position to take and really is about time them took bleeding responsibility.

Team Gb = Is It Time ?

So unless I have ridden my opinion does not count ? The only disrespect is choosing not to ride for your country and then suddenly changing your mind and expecting to be brought back. Correct me if I am wrong but the issue was sponsors names on the racesuit and for me that is no reason to decide not to ride for your country I stand by the fact he should be told he is not required. Just my view

Team Gb = Is It Time ?

With you 100% on Nicholls. While his nation was struggling he was sat at home (well actually taking money to commentate on them) sulking. Maybe I am in a minority but I would go with just about anyone else to be honest Drives me nuts to see riders deciding not to ride for their country...................unless its on their terms On the flip side I disagree with you 100% on Woffinden
  19. Tickets now taken Cheers
  20. Anyway, away from the name calling.............is anyone interested in making use of these hospitality tickets ?
  21. The Oxford SOS group are sponsoring a race and a rider and therefore we have 2 complimentary tickets as part of that deal which come with a buffet on the day in the Hospitality lounge As we will not be using these tickets if someone would like to offer the face value of a normal admission ticket then they are welcome to make use of them. All we ask is that on the day you pay the £16 per ticket to Paul Ackroyd and that can at least go back into the fund Can you send me a message if you are interested and I will send them to the first person that asks
  22. Just to let people know that Lukas and Theresa had a new addition to their family yesterday with the birth of baby Ales. Clearly named after Grandfather and Uncle and a brother for their first born, also Theresa

    Swindon Stadium

Wondered if it was you Steve, good to see you are back in circulation. I have only been to 4 meetings in the UK (all in the IOW) since Oxford closed in 2007 so fair to say I also have really been lost to the sport. Used to go to 4 a week !!! As for Oxford, while Swindon seem miles away and do not have planning permission, the silence in Oxford where there is a ready made stadium suggests there is no chance. Hope I am wrong but we all thought last December when the planning consent was chucked out and then the Conversation Order put on the stadium was the catalyst. Seems the owners have deeper pockets and less business sense than anyone gave them credit for. The campaign has been completely silent for months now Time in my mind to accept we have seen the last speedway in Oxford. Not sure I personally have the appetite any more, I think people move on and find other things to do

    Swindon Stadium

Problem is Tsumani I suspect there are very few who actually believed when the 'End of an Era' meeting was held was really going to be that. Given that the Swindon promotion knew that no planning permission had been sought then to kid people that the stadium would be ready for March is surely treating people as fools. As the article from March demonstrates its not exactly moving at a pace that suggests its achievable I admire their optimism if they ever thought for one minute it would really happen
  25. Is he ? Did they move with the previous promotion ?
