  1. I think the "flyers" and unsatisfactory starts are caused by poor start line marshalling. If the riders" front wheel is within an inch or two of the tapes it is impossible to move without touching the tapes. At Poole several starts were positioned unevenly. For reference have a look at the Start Marshalling at Torun on Saturday, it was impeccable and consistent.
  2. MORE RACING Grasstrack racing, run entirely by amateurs, manages to put on a 30 to 50 race programme lasting around three hours. Even if one race is not very exciting there is another one along almost instantly. This makes for an interesting and sometimes exciting, few hours of racing. Speedway needs more racing!
  3. Hi David Thanks for explaining your decision so clearly. I have always admired your professional approach to the sport and the way in which you tackled almost every aspect of track racing. It was particularly pleasing when you were among the top Brits on the Long track and European grasstrack scene. I was a spectator at that Worcester GT when you fell on the first corner, right in front of us. I could never have imagined that such a "typical" fall could have had such big consequences. I wish you every success in whatever you decide to do next.

I thought the green light starts were better than tapes. It eliminated almost any possibility of anticipating the start and getting a flyer, and makes any jumped start very obvious. F1, MotoGP, WSB and BSB seem to manage it.
  5. Does anyone konw where Chris Holder will be riding in 2014?

A great ambassador for the sport. I remember him and his brother, Eric, competing in th Southern Centre ACU Grasstrack Championships at Bishops Waltham in 1949 or 50. He won outright. This was on his speedway bike with no rear suspension. How many modern day top riders would do this? Cameron Woodward and David Howe come to mind.

A great rider and ambassador for the sport. I remember him, and his brother, riding in the Southern Centre Grasstrack Championships in 1949 or 50 at Bishops Waltham. He won outright in great style. How many current world champions would be seen doing this, and on a speedway bike without rear suspension. A sad passing indeed.
