Birmingham to bounce back with a win.

The reserves will see them over the line in a close one (47-43)

I don't understand Leicester's line-up at all, Why on earth would you put a struggling Sam Masters at No.5 to partner the already struggling reserves Kemp & Thompson?

Clutching at straws to figure this one out but maybe trying to shake Masters out of being able to hide himself in the 3/4 zone? Could have moved him to 2 but would that have just kept that going?

I'm hoping we see an improvement from Joe when he has done a few Championship meetings with Plymouth and perhaps gained some confidence. It's a shame that Plymouth haven't been able to have any meetings so far because of the weather.

Good point it's been very unfortunate for him to not have that level of competition yet when he badly needs it. Can't really be learning much at NDL level any more

Popped in to watch a bit of practice... first thing I'm greeted with under the new regime is Lake Leicester covering the whole of the entrance to the stadium like a moat! Would it have really hurt for somebody to have brushed it all away? There was a big top circus camped next door and some of their punters may have been tempted to have a look at what all of the noise was about... but they'd have to have pole vaulted over it... I really do despair sometimes, same old speedway, smh.

    Perhaps that was @davieb1 's job :D

Other than that, good to see, hear and smell the bikes again.

I came across Neil Machin once just outside the gate, working hard with a sweeping brush to clear a giant puddle. But the water just ran back again. Probably needs some drainage work to resolve properly, which would be down to the landlord Mr Hemsley to carry out! However, during his days as promoter, DH would probably have commandeered several stewards (and maybe a couple of riders!) to get out there with brooms!

    Damn won't share

Basically Adam has dislocated shoulder racing in Oz today.

Taller riders seem more susceptible to shoulder and neck injuries, and to then struggle if trying to carry on riding. Unless it's someone of exceptionally high ability, like Jason Doyle, if I were a promoter I'd pack my team with rubber ball types like Chris Harris

'would be very happy to open talks over the ownership at an appropriate time'

Chapman has been adamant that speedway is finished at showground but he is happy for the enthusiastic consortium to put the work in to try and save it. If they are successful, Chapman can get a load more money for the sale of the club.

The complete lack of effort by Chapman to save the club himself and then says things like 'All we want is for the club to return to racing', is shameful.

Absolutely! Super-clever game plan being followed by Chapman here but nothing usual. Allow an asset (which isn't worth a huge amount anyway and frankly not bothered about either) to dwindle in value by not opposing other parties or circumstances which are bringing about that diminution. The asset then becomes basically dormant, all the while knowing there is another party which desires the asset AND that is prepared to put in the graft required to protect and enhance the asset's value, whilst at the same time not genuinely being interested in selling at its current market value. Then put out public statements of support for the other party's actions! Chapeau, Monsieur Chappo, Chapeau!

Depends what way you look at it. If you look at the overall picture then it's helpful to the consortium with their objectives. If you've only got pound signs in front of your eyes and no hidden agenda then the statement clearly favours you although it can't be a surprise to the consortium that dealing with this owner is going to be anything but straightforward.

I guess it also depends on how the Consortium members regard the statement!

What exactly does Chapman actually own - what precisely is Peterborough Speedway’s assets? I don’t mean rider value either as that is worthless. Possibly an air fence, some starting tapes and possible track equipment?

The fact that under British Speedway laws somebody could hold a promotors license and therefore hold potential owners or people willing to run a Peterborough affiliated outfit to ransom absolutely stinks. The same scenario became apparent at Somerset, at Newport in the past and many other places too.

I think it comes under the heading of "intellectual property" or something similar and possibly includes the name "Peterborough Speedway" and the right to use it.

As I said, more questions than answers. However, Bratters and co know what they are trying to achieve and I'm sure that the statement serves their purpose, even though it's far from perfect looking from the outside? It keeps Peterborough Speedway on the front page and gives the screw another turn.

But who does that article make it appear to be the one turning the screw. A masterstroke by the King of smoke and mirrors, one that has blindsided the consortium?

It shouldn't be beyond the wit of man to to draw up a contract handing the club over to the consortium as it is now with clauses about future potential eventualities.

The consortium would have stronger negotiating power and Chapman would have a better chance of that future pension dividend.

If there is no hidden agenda then that certainly is a strange agenda to be following as first choice.

For the statement to have credibility, shouldn't it be backed up by the consortium members each becoming a director of Peterborough Speedway Ltd (or whatever the company is called) and perhaps also become shareholders, even if their shareholdings are initially only very small?

  10. Seems like each season there's one club in particular that struggles to recruit suitable riders and I still have unpleasant memories of Leicester in the mid 1970's and during the ill-fated (and ill-advised) seasons in the Elite league under the Hemsley regime. Really hope this turns out not to be the case for the Brummies 2024 and you get some good breaks

Me too, he demonstrated such a commitment to racing British speedway last season, tbh if I was Chris Louis I’d have chopped Emil in for him!!

Maybe you're being a bit too harsh on him. Probably his Poland club were exercising a lot of control, and stepping into a new situation partway through a season isn't ideal. If he's available from the start and without strings being attached and pulled he'd be a cracking signing

  12. The suspicion I'm having, is of the BSPL  allowing Birmingham into the PL only as an "extra" and with a high risk of the club not being able to complete the season taken fully into account. It was therefore essential to have a solid core of 6 clubs, all of them with stability and a good chance of not just completing the 2024 season, but 2025 as well.

If the Brummies do complete season 2024 then it will be a "bonus" - if they can return for 2025 that will be beyond a bonus! So I very much doubt there will be any collective "bailing out" done by the other 6/BSPL if things go wrong at any stage. Survival of the 6 will be uppermost. There were two lame ducks in the 2023 league and the management committee couldnt allow that possibility to repeat in 2024. The performance of Kings Lynn will be of more importance to them,   than that of Birmingham. Can just keep fingers crossed it works out ok for Brummies. But I doubt if Ermolenko will be effective or even competent - maybe young Adams will be.

Rumours reaching me are that there has been a lot of gardening taking place in the hotel grounds delaying the starts of the meetings. There is a 6pm curfew at the hotel,  when the bar opens, so extending over the weekend was the only option to get a result.

Conference room no longer available after today, so Buster Chapman has offered the use of his room in an attempt for matters to be concluded
