There was a train into Manchester at 2140. When I've used the train I've had to miss heat 15 on more than one occasion. However, it's easy enough to get into town on a bus and there are trains to Sheffield until pretty late. 2355 ish.

This is the truth unfortunately and gets very little mention. Speedway stadia are shocking in general. I watched at Hyde Rd when I was a nipper, so I took my kids when they were little as I remembered how much I loved it. When I got there I was shocked at how dilapidated the place looked. We moved to Kirky Lane a couple of years later and although it was an old stadium, it had seating with bars on two sides and a restaurant , terracing on three sides and the grass bank was popular for families with youngsters running about. In its latter years it was a disgrace. Bars closed, toilets with smashed urinals, crumbling terracing on the 3Rd/4th bend and the crowd reflected it.We've had guests and tactical and delays forever, if this forum had existed in the 70's or 80's the complaints would have been the same as now. What's more pertinent is that the public are used to better arenas for sport, football, rugby, ice hockey, basketball have all updated, but Speedway grounds look worse now than they did 30 years ago. The public want more and better. Im not sure how you achieve that, but tidying are stadia up and improvements needs more emphasis.

Fixed Mon/Thurs race nights are the final nail in the coffin for the sport in this country.

I've always thought the racing was poor there. First time I went there was around 1986 and I thought it barely looked like Speedway.

Surely by going to a single night for each league you are trying to accommodate doubling up rather than getting rid of it. There was a time when a good National League rider could make the sport pay and a good British League rider would have had no need to double up in the lower division. Why is it you don't mention the car parking, programme or food and drink when calculating the cost when you go to Old Toilet? Presumably that's taking you way beyond sixty quid and it's more boring there these days than even the most processional speedway race. Twenty Four sniffs for two people to watch top league professional sport is a deal. I use the cost of admission as a plus point when persuading friends to come along to the NSS. "£17 for you and the kids come along for free" People are genuinely surprised at how reasonable it is. For what it's worth, I think the decrepit facilities at Speedway tracks are what put many people off. There are much higher expectations from paying supporters on that front than there was even twenty years ago.

At a time when we want to reduce guests and do away with 'double uppers' it seems a great plan to reduce the number of riders in the UK by banning Australians. Well done you.

I liked Wosniak around Bells Vue last season. Bjerre is on a downward curve now. But either would be decent.

One of the few decent speedway stadia in the country (which is one of the big reasons Speedway is suffering, people expect better leisure facilities) Looking from a distance Ai can't see how it is anybody's fault but Sandhu's. Really nasty vicious tactics to close the place down it would appear. On the plus side, Rugby Council seem like they will be accommodating and the fact Brandon Estates (Whoever they are) are willing to listen to offers for the old girl Strange timing on Horton spilling some of the beans on what's happening and the 8 match season ticket. Apparently their viewing figures for togger are down by nearly 20%. I wonder if that has an impact on Speedway coverage.

I never understand why people talk about the weather. Right now across Manchester City Centre, there is an enormous viaduct for the railway being built with a spectacular new bridge. New lines, junctions and signalling are being installed, but not a single weekend's work has been cancelled because of the weather. Of course work on Swindon's new stadium could be going ahead.

Normally in rape cases it is one word against another. In Evans' case the unusual situation existed of his word and his mate against her "I have no idea what happened, I was too pissed to know". I'm paraphrasing slightly. The whole conviction seemed to centre on the concept of whether you can consent to sex when drunk. The girl was drunk and had cocaine in her bloodstream, what actually happened is difficult to establish, but the basis for being convicted being "I wouldn't have if I was sober" seems perhaps non conclusive.

I don't think there were many football fans fawning all over Evans. I have read quite a lot about his case, and the conviction was shaky at best. It is my understanding that a case that is overturned and quashed has a pretty good chance of attracting a not guilty verdict when it comes back to court. Sure Evans didn't cover himself in glory, but if what he did was rape, then plenty of people who have drunken assignations after a night out, have something to worry about.

Excellent news. It gives hope. Losing Coventry would be an enormous blow to Speedway in this country. Now to find a long term solution somehow.
