    Workington 2018 .

Apparently in a new twist, it appears that as Simon has (previously unbeknown to his bride to be) invited his team mates to the wedding to provide a guard of honour in their Kevlars she has insisted they all tucked up safely in their beds this evening by 8pm. Luckily for Peterborough they have discovered a little known clause in the rulebook which covers this eventuality which allows them to bring in a whole team of GP riders. Therefore it will be the Comets v Woffinden, Zmarzlik, Janowski, Lindgren, Barker (guest for Dudek), Hancock and Laguta. It is obviously going to be make it a little tougher for the boys tonight but we have had bigger hurdles to cross this year, so I say we will just sneak it 47-43. C'mon you Comets.
  2. Full marks to the Bears tonight who rode with spirit and determination and put the Diamonds' pathetic performance into perspective. Barker and Jorgensen being particularly impressive, but they all played a part. I enjoyed the fact that they went over to their supporters at the end for a bit of a love-in, they deserved it. Note to the Monarchs - everyone managed to turn their bikes all night, and no-one got hurt.
  3. Apart from Aarnio that was just embarrassing from the Diamonds. If any fans did make the journey over, they should have been reimbursed by their team. Redcar showed later what a bit of determination can do. NB Does Carl Wilkinson have a twin, because the one who rode for Redcar is a totally different animal to the one who rode for Newcastle.
  4. This is sooooooooo boring now, from all sides in this argument/discussion. Please do the rest of us a favour and give it a rest.
  5. Maybe not, but I'm sure they will if they run out of fit riders and supporters who want to be entertained.
  6. I too noticed how Ben was first out with a spare bike. Great to see that sort of attitude from a guest when we have seen others (mentioning no names) guesting and appearing not to give a monkeys after scoring big points here with their own team. As already stated a very enjoyable meeting with special mentions this week to Rasmus, Rene and Kyle. Hopefully Nicolai can get his machinery issues sorted this week, as that could have easily cost us tonight.
  7. Well what a cracking meeting and is what you can get when you get 2 good teams racing on a track which is fair to both teams and not weighted in favour the home team. It could have gone either way all the way through the meeting and looked like ending in a draw until Rene and Rasmus came up with the goods in the last heat. The Monarchs have DP specialists in their ranks through Wells, Worrall and Riss who always give us a run for our money, however I was very impressed with Pickering. Hopefully we can both get through to the play offs, where hopefully we can give a much better account of things than last night.

    Workington 2018 .

Great battling point tonight with all sorts going on by the sound of it. A shame things didn't go quite to plan for our trump card, hopefully he will be ok for the weekend. I am getting dragged away on holiday for a week so am going to miss this weekend's racing. Here's hoping they can do the business and be in an even stronger position by the time the Monarchs come to town.

    Championship League Riders Championship

Nothing against Cookie but it is called the 2018 Championship League Riders Championship for a reason and surely no-one however high their rolling average should be invited after 2 only meetings. Will he himself not be embarrassed to be there? Yes it is still a great sport, unfortunately run by a group of people who are either completely out of their depth or who constantly have their judgement clouded by intermittent bouts of self interest (or both).
  10. I was really looking forward to this one, but it turned out to be a stop start non event. The tone was set when in order to ensure the meeting was run before the forecasted rain came the parade was cancelled, only for the racing to be delayed due to lack of medical cover! From there on in the meeting didn't ever take off, with very little if any overtaking and every race being ftg. Hopefully no one incurred any serious injuries, though the track did not appear to be in anything like the condition it has been. Possibly due to the recent weather. For the Comets Rene was our trump card yet again, ably supported by Ty and Nicolai. Most of the witches picked up points when they gated, with young Drew Kemp on the pace and looking a prospect. As for Rory the hint of rain in the air and the small puddle on the inside of bend 4 obviously did for him, with his spill in heat 13 putting the tin cap on it - hopefully he wasn't badly hurt. I guess the 3 points are the main thing, however it is not one to live in the memory for long.

    Workington 2018 .

You just can't beat a positive post - Upset. White flag. No-one arsed. No encouragement. I miss one meeting (a straightforward sounding victory over Sheffield) where we probably sensibly stopped 'racing' after the 3 points were in the bag and all of a sudden nobody is speaking to each other and it is all doom and gloom. As others have said we have the best 'team' many of us can remember and despite the well documented chaos caused by this seasons excuse for a fixture list we still have a great chance of winning silverware. Therefore can we all try and stay positive and not post negative comments which are usually unsubstantiated nonsense in any case. And next time one of us is faced with the 'I used to go, but don't bother any more' comment we ask them for their main reason for not going and then try to encourage them to go the next meeting. After all there are plenty of reasons to go. The 'team', the track (fair, smooth and set up for racing), the chance of silverware (an attractive proposition for the pot hunters), and last but not least the opportunity to see the next Cumbrian British champion in boy wonder Dan Bewley. NB I am not sure of the correlation between wee chats and moths but there must be one for Jenga to mention it. Erm....well maybe next week to see young Dan!
  12. In answer to your question Geoff100, no chance whatsoever. So we are told to rearrange our fixtures months after they were agreed and then get penalised for doing so......................................... A class of 5 year olds would be hard pushed to make a bigger hash of things than the present bunch of jokers who are meant to run the sport in this country. With so few teams/fixtures and the long hot summer we have had it should have been a piece of cake this year. And as others have said, 2 NL guests pottering around at the back just makes a mockery of what is meant to be sport. More to follow......again the silence is deafening. No doubt there is plenty going on behind the scenes, but what about the supporters?
  13. Yep, only speedway could make such a dogs dinner of the above scenario.
  14. I too was very disappointed with the crowd last night, though I realise that it is holiday season. Last night was almost like our season starting over after yet another break in our fixtures, we were up against very good well matched opposition, we were at full strength (though some were struggling with knocks), we have our best 'team' for ages, we are watching a young local star in the making and even the weather was good. What more do the people of West Cumbria want, and what is going to get them back to DP ? Laura and Co. must be wondering the same and be seriously thinking about why they bother. For the loyal few, I feel we are going to have to make the most of the next few hectic weeks.
  15. Unfortunately accidents happen in speedway, and its a shame Scunny have had more than their fair share this season. Hopefully the injuries are not too bad and everyone is fit and riding again very soon. This applies to all those who are presently riding through the pain barrier such as Steve Worrall and our own Rene Bach and Ty Proctor. They certainly put the likes of premier league footballers to shame. As Scaramanga has already said, nobody was knocked off, apart from young Kyle you could say. The crashes tonight were what I would call racing incidents where the riders were totally committed, which is what supporters want to see, rather than people tootling around at the back for a couple of laps before pretending they have a mechanical issue when they miss the gate (mentioning no names here, but we all know one or two). There was some great speedway tonight from 2 very committed teams and Scunny deserve a lot of credit and probably a point. I certainly wouldn't have begrudged them one. Jake Allen in particular was superb, ably backed up by Steve Worrall and Jason Garrity. For the Comets everyone chipped in, with a half fit Rene Bach being a trump card at reserve. Typical that young Kyle appeared to be on for 2 points (I know he got the points as the race was awarded) when he was clipped in the reserves race as it would have been great to cheer him over the line. It would have been interesting to see how he got on against Danny Phillips and Gino Manzares for the rest of the meeting as it could have been a turning point for him. Once again, shame on those who left before the lap of honour. Do they not appreciate what these guys go through to provide us with the entertainment and the points? Sorry, edited to point out how lucky we are to have Dan Bewley in our team. Absolute class.

Witches v Champions Elect Comets 12/7 Championship

First of all I hope Ippo's injured riders are back soon, it obviously hindered them tonight. As far as the Comets are concerned, we march on. The thing that strikes me at the moment is that we are not relying on the same one or two riders every meeting. Everyone is chipping in, and when one or two are maybe struggling a wee bit another one or two are scoring big points - tonight it was Razzer and Mason, last week we had Rene and Nicolai, before his injury Ty was banging them in - and I haven't even mentioned the boy wonder. Long may it last, I just hope we can get our fixtures in before the cut off date and see where it takes us.
  17. Brilliant stuff from the lads all weekend, and especially tonight with a weakened team. The other lads must have said right it is down to us 4 tonight lets do it (for the team) and boy did they. We need to stick with Kyle, he is on the pace and will get there. We have seen it in the past with Richard Lawson and Cookie amongst others, eventually it will click and he will be away. Charles Wright was another who struggled, though it came together for him after he left us. We just need to be patient, the lad obviously has talent, and hopefully he and us will reap the rewards next year.

    Workington 2018 .

Wow, what a weekend for the Comets. We can even do it without 2 of our top men. More to follow.
  19. Plenty of meetings left at DP (though we don't have a clue which days of the week they will be run), AND we get to see people overtake - you are most welcome.

Exactly, if clubs have been dictated to as to when to race their home fixtures, surely the away teams need to be told when they must race unless they have a compelling reason not to. We need all teams to compromise for the sport as a whole , not one or two teams selfishly looking out for themselves only. Is that too much to ask, recent history tells us it is unfortunately.
  21. This is a pet hate of mine and I don't know if it is the same at every track, but why can't supporters wait 2 minutes to applaud their team on their lap of honour. The riders put their butts on the line to provide us with entertainment surely the least we can do is hang back and show them that we appreciate their efforts.
  22. The scoreline maybe does not reflect it, but there was some good racing tonight, mainly from the Comets it has to be said with some great passes and determined riding by Rene, Dan and Razzer. Nicolai got his maximum, but everyone chipped in and Kyle looked on the pace and will be in the points soon I am sure. Apart from Summers the Bandits were very poor but I am sure they will be a different proposition tomorrow/today. Should be a good meeting.

I know I am sticking my head above the parapet a little and that it is very late in the day to be altering the fixture list, but does anybody know how many Saturdays is it we can't race because of stadium availability. For a club that applied and were refused permission to run on Fridays, we seem to have more than the odd one. Who gave the assurances to Laura that some Friday meetings would not be a problem. Is there an official BSPA statement out there somewhere regarding the cancelling of Friday meetings. The last time I looked no other club has issued a similar statement to ours. As far as I aware we were one of the first clubs to struggle find a guest on a Friday due to the number of fixtures on that night. Now that our season is finally about to start the problem of rider availability is only going to get worse, particularly for us I agree, but it will surely affect everyone to some degree. I know its going to be a ballache to rearrange fixtures at short notice but surely it is better than teams made up of novices. The fixture list was a joke to start with, this latest twist just compounds things. At least the BSPA have finally acknowledged this and have tried to do something about it (I will get my coat). Call me naïve, but I have no time for conspiracy theorists. See you at DP tonight (Friday).

    apology to workington speedway .

I agree with what you say Tsunami and some comments on here do get a bit personal at times , however there are better ways of dealing with these issues than what appears to have happened in this case. Of course we are not party to all the facts, but on the face of it a threat of a ban was perhaps was/is a little heavy handed. As Mr Whitehead obviously knows Jenga's identity perhaps a one to one conversation explaining his side of things would have been a better option. All very well in hindsight though, and obviously this season will be proving particularly stressful to those promoting the Comets this year. Hopefully things can be sorted and this will be the end of the matter.
