Good luck to kelsey going to be a journey for home matches, thj has gone quiet hope he ok,how is the stadium coming along???

Kelsey is on a false average...I believe if he got one more meeting in for the Diamonds he would have been on an average of just over 6... could be wrong on that but it was what I have been told....

Track is progressing but I am not sure who picked a P&P meet one hour after the coronation of good old King Charles the Third... again if I have got my dates right...

I'm still tender from my broken ribs and now the quack has got me in her sights I'm getting the BJesus pestered out of me... in fact if it wasn't for the strikes I would have more time in than a junior doctor...

Edinburgh certainly won’t be bottom.Hook Bickley and Roynon look a decent top 3 .

Do you know what it is....

I can't disagree with you because I think all of the teams in the NDL are pretty evenly matched... I keep looking at the sides as they are and I can't pick an out and out favourite... yes a couple look slightly stronger than others but ultimately it will be down to away bonus points and any unfortunate injuries...

IMHO I think any team is in with an outside chance if they click as a team... to me there does not seem to be any one team super strong but likewise there isn't a whipping boy in the league either....

Think it will be a very interesting season... can't wait to see what happens...

Do you have blue or red tomato ketchup on the bacon banjo, your answer could be important to the job:). Mind you imagine you're probably a brown sauce man.....

As they dont make Black and White sauce its always Red.... unless there are beans on said banjo then it's as it comes... and never brown... not a fan...

The merits of the humble bacon banjo eh... does life get any better... or sadder...

Who is behind this project then? I just seen Steve Lawson has been appointed co promoter but i thought he was the man who got this whole club back going again?

Hello Pinny long time no hear... hope you are doing well...

Andrew Bain is the main man behind the Comets resurrection...  he has ran the Workington Speedway Training Track at Northside for the last few years and when the Comets went pop in 2019 he decided to redevelop the Northside site as the track was only about 160 metres round and in a tight bowl...

Andy has a background in Civil Engineering and Groundworks and he decided to open the whole space out and stick a 300 metre track on the site... been a big task however things are nearing completion and although it will be an ongoing project for the next 10 years or so it is exciting times in Workington that is for sure...

Last week's speedway star said a feature on the new Workington track is in this week's edition, saw some photos at the weekend, pits up roof still to put on. The viewing terraces/banking starting to green up and looks to be great viewing, maybe THJ has more inside info

No Neil you have hit it on the head... let down by the sheet roof guy so having to source pits roofing from elsewhere... perimeter fence due to go in and not before time which should add some security to the site... track electrics going in this weekend I've been told... which is nice to know cos am getting that job apparently... and if the pit roof goes on this Saturday the pit lighting will be getting wired in on Sunday... the centre green has been levelled out and Steve is grading the track continuously to try and get it to bind better... seating structures are imminent but it's massive like a big mecano set and is causing a few logistic problems so rethink on those going on...  other than that everything is going in the right direction...

  8. Some sad News for Diamonds fans who knew George Lawson as he passed away suddenly earlier this week and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

George was an ardent speedway fan and done all his courting at Brough Park with his sweetheart and best pal Mary who later become his wife and they attended the speedway together with their children and grandchildren and George would travel to watch many a speedway meeting along with his son Doug and his Grandkids Kyle and Emily.

He especially enjoyed his trips to the more local clubs such as Glasgow; Edinburgh Workington; Berwick and Redcar and would rarely miss watching the Diamonds but would also regularly travel further afield for individuals such as the Premier League (Championship) Riders Final especially when it was held at Sheffield. However during his travels George got to every track in the country following the Newcastle Diamonds. He regularly came to Brough on his motor bike and I will certainly miss my hens eggs that he would bring...

    RIP George

    Sadly missed John...

Another aerial photo doing the rounds on Facebook this time with what looks like a mini track has appeared!! Have not had time to walk down yet, maybe THJ has some news

Correct a mini track has been installed on the right hand side as you enter the site... all coming together with the delivery of the seating which is a massive mecano set... the pits are 80% built... lights tapes and other trackside equipment ready to go in... New generator acquired that will potentially run the full site... time will be tight but everyone is pulling together... UTC.... an all that...

     /coals/Coles to Newcastle  :D lol

i do believe its an old newcastle saying first heard it in the 70s . think the announcer was Barrie Wallace . THJ will put me right on this i am sure .

A pithy attempt at humour there Jenga!

I know Barry Wallace is getting on but the saying "Coals to Newcastle" goes back long before him... and will certainly be lost on anyone born in the 80s or later who may not/will not be aware of the fine mining tradition of the North East...

I know you're probably being a bit flippant( always a first I suppose :)) with the £16, but having thought about it again £13 is spot on for a stand alone club. If the track is as good as it looks, good value, shame it's 500 mile+ round trip for me otherwise I'd give it go if I was closer.

Flippant Moi... heaven forbid... to be honest Gazzac loads of options and rates were discussed and what we ended up with basically won on a democratic vote... although my favoured rate would have been 15 quid for your first meeting and every time you bring your last ticket back you get £5 off so effectively a 10 quid meeting for regulars... however it was felt that this would be unfairly treating away fans who couldn't do each week... now my response to that was rather flippant... but never mind I think the pricing is about right and those season tickets are a bargain to be fair because there may be another additional meeting on that... but with the 7 league and 1 cup meetings and possibly an open meeting to start the season with its about right 10/11:25 per meeting and if Neil buys a season ticket and we only get the 8 meetings I will buy him a pint just to keep his face straight...

    THJ

Oh and having seen old Grumpy Chops response above (who I have been told is a millionaire by the way) if he gets a season ticket I will get him a warm drink of his choice Oxo Horlicks Ovaltine Tea or Coffee or if its a warm day a Bitter Shandy... got to look after your pensioners... Think Singy13 was one of the original Ovaltineys click on it and I think that's him on the right as you look at the picture...

Don't know how these prices compare with the rest of the league, find it strange that's theirs no OAP prices, don't know the finances involved but I would maybe have had  a flat rate of £10 for all and kids £1.

Would you now? Well when you come and buy the club you can charge what you want... however at the minute you don't own it... how do you know that the £13 quid isn't the OAP price and the club were thinking of charging every adult 15/16 quid and the 13 was the concession... but because they would like to give the spot not only a chance of breaking even but still encourage enough folk to come through the gate... they decided to charge 13 quid across the board... Get a season ticket for £90 they are a steal... it looks like 9 matches on your season ticket so that's £10:00 a meeting... Honestly what more do ya want...

Just a heads up for anyone interested that the Liquidators Final Statement of Affairs has just been filed at Companies House.

All available funds realised (circa <£5K) gobbled up by liquidation fees and nowt for creditors. Some things don't change.

Apparently HMRC did not file a claim so the alleged VAT arrears have presumably gone to the spirit in the sky!

The claim was against the previous owners/promoters not Rob Grant as he liquidated the second business correctly and the VAT liability was against NewSpeed the first one he bought (which he also folded) and as much as I have slated Grant on here the one thing he cant be slated for is not declaring anything to the tax man (sic) originally!!! it was probably his honesty in these matters in the early days that added to his downfall when he first took over the club... However... £5K realised... Aye righto? the tax man may want to revisit that one... HMRC have a very large HUMINT department and it doesn't take much to pique their interest that is for sure... Naughty Rob... (But what's the point)

Sticking with the tax matters and as "minister without portfolio" is finding out much to his chagrin... When Jim Harra (top civil servant in HMRC) was asked about how the term “careless” should be interpreted by the public, Harra told MPs: “Carelessness is a concept in tax law. It can be relevant to how many back years that we can assess, can be relevant to whether someone is liable to a penalty and if so, what penalty they will be liable to for an error in their tax affairs.” While Harra made clear he was "not at liberty to speak directly about an individual’s tax affairs because of confidentiality rules", Blah Blah... I think you will find that a deal has been done that suits all parties and put the VAT issue to bed... however us "Plebs" will never get to find out... and of course "too late was the cry" as the club was going through its death throws long before all the issues broke about the financial mess the place was in...

Very sad and missing it greatly...

Not so sure they wouldn't have passed the BSPA fit and proper owners test. Mr Grant might have been a shyster but I'm not aware of him running a tyrannical regime of misogyny and homophobia ;)

I know speedway is desperate for investment but you've got to draw a line somewhere.

Did you never meet Rob Grant?

There’s also a good few that have said no cause of the travel.

Who? How Many? I doubt it's a "Good Few" as these kids want to ride... travel may just be an excuse not to come rather than cite the real reason of not wanting to ride for a team!!!

Surely max and drew have near 12 averages tho? Big chunk of team building on 1 rider.

I personally think the league looks very competitive frim teams built so far.

Not sure on averages but when there is riders of this calibre missing out how can the argument of not enough riders of heat leader level be substantiated. I also believe it's a strong competitive league and thoroughly looking forward to it.

Av heard Stephan Nielsen nearly made it into the team and thats another Heat Leader in the mix...

Pleanty of riders out there looking for teams...
