  1. Can't change it as your club has the controls but still can't get the results it wants. With no chance of the play-offs for you as it stands, wonder what will happen next? Although they are still showing on the calendar, I wouldn't be very confident of them going ahead. Despite severe difficulties in finding new dates (After all these were agreed at the START of the season) the team still are on course for the top 4. They even cancelled the KOC meeting from last week and still enforced the end of July cut-off date. Wonder what will happen if it's rained off on the 28th and cannot be staged before then.. Despite winning the away leg, those holding the controls may say it's decided on alphabetical order. Cannot see any evidence at all of the "Management Committee" trying to help our cause.. no wonder then that the conspiracy theorists may have a point LOL!!

Think that was the intention made by those in power who made the Friday night decision. Trouble is whilst we keep winning our away matches, the clubs who thought they would benefit by our demise didn't win between them at the weekend!

Agree whole-heartedly, as there are deadlines for the Championship matches to be completed. Trouble is, someone made it nigh on impossible for the Championship match deadline to be met by ripping out the heart of the home fixtures, so the "Not hard to do" becomes a "Very hard to do"

Trouble is though, that League fixture v Newcastle for August 10th has now been removed from the fixture list, as it is one of our Fridays that limit Scunthorpe and the likes of getting guests! Probably the Management Committee have a deadline in place for the KOC to even further limit the chances of the Comets getting their fixtures in by the cut-off date, so KOC it is!

On the Speedway GB site it now shows Workington at Home v Newcastle in the KOC on July 28th. In saying that it also still shows our Friday "Home" meetings v Peterborough (Aug 3rd), Newcastle (Aug 10th), and Lakeside (Aug 17th) as well, so who knows? With things as they are, would it not be better to make the match on July 28th a Championship meeting instead, or has the "Management Committee" forbid that as well?? Seriously worried that we won't get the chance to race enough Home fixtures in before the "Cut-Off" . Looks like Scunthorpe need to win all of their remaining matches to have any remote chance to qualify having lost two at Home and only getting one point on the road so far, so perhaps there may be a few more decisions to come lol!

Witches v Champions Elect Comets 12/7 Championship

Hmm.. 75% of matches ridden on a Friday??? Out of the 6 Home meetings this season, Workington have ridden only 2 at home on a Friday! Anyway, the powers that be have stated there will be no more Friday night home meetings for them (Strangely enough though both Peterborough and Lakeside are now running this Friday but we aren't!) Never mind though, after two home defeats and no points on the road so far, perhaps they may extend the end of season play-offs till 6 or 8 teams to give Scunthorpe a chance eh lol!
  7. The 12th August meeting is at Newcastle Scara. Our next Home meeting is on August 26th v Redcar for now.
  8. Wouldn't say I do either Jenga. They may yet decide to include KOC meetings in the averages (After they decided retrospectively to include Championship Shield), or even dream up of a few new ways to calculate them . Depends if the advantage of including or discarding them lies with one of those responsible for pulling our Friday night fixtures
  9. Depends on what Bach scores tonight. His new average kicks in 7 days later (13th), but ironically after the 12th July we don't have another fixture now till August 12th! In the meantime the usual cut-off date of the 23rd July will include both Berwick meetings and the Ipswich meeting for the rest of the team. so there is a possibility he may revert back into the main body of the team without ever racing at reserve!

    Workington v Berwick 06/07/2018 7:30pm Ch

Providing he rides of course, Rene will complete his 4th Home meeting, and thus qualify for a new average effective 7 days after the Berwick meeting (July 13th). With his "Current" average being 5.73, as long as he fails to score more than 8 ponts (from 4 rides) or 9 points (From 5 rides) he will effectively be at reserve from July 13th.

    Workington v Glasgow 23/06/18 7:00pm

As a fellow "Oldie" there was actually a dead heat at Workington in Heat 11 of the home leg of the KOC meeting against the IOW on 18th Sept 2004, when James Wright and Craig Boyce were adjudged to have crossed the line together. The Comets lost that meeting 43.5pts to 46.5 Before that, as Lord Lucan stated, there was also one in the home meeting against Scunthorpe in the League on July 4th 1975 when Mick Newton and Keith Evans crossed the line together in Heat 7 with a final result of 36.5 to 41.5 in Scunthorpe's favour. By the way, I am not Jacko, as some of you already know!!

Very much agreed it is a "Make or break" season, not only for us, but a few others as well. Even if we overcome the rugby club's intervention, the issue of compiling a competitive team is a huge problem for Workington, and for several other clubs. Hats off to the likes of Ipswich, Scunthorpe, and Glasgow so far, but the sheer number of options at the top end of teams is limited to say the least. The "Mystery" of the riders you mention isn't a mystery at all really, as there is no-one else! What makes the task even harder for the likes of Newcastle, Berwick, Workington, and Peterborough (Who are supposedly racing on Sundays but are looking towards more Fridays), is the none-availability of those top end riders who are contracted to Polish clubs. The reason Workington wanted Fridays was of course down to many things including being able to track a competitive team. Why do you think Scunthorpe and Glasgow wanted to switch race-nights?. Workington shot themselves in the foot big style by not having any representation at the AGM, but they were not the only club who were not represented. As I have stated on several occasions, there is scope for Workington to race on Fridays as we will have fortnightly official fixtures, and unless we get our wish our team will not have any top end strength I believe. Look at the list of remaining top end riders. I cannot see any of them being options for Workington, except maybe Wells and Summers. The facts are that several teams will be made up without an out and out number one, whereas others will have two or three in their sides (And good luck to them by the way) due to their race-nights not falling on a weekend. I am just very grateful of a team to support, and Laura and her team deserve the highest praise for wanting to run under such circumstances. The facts are that support is needed more than ever at Workington, and we are just not going to have seven riders who are all capable of improvement.

EXACTLY! The whole point to my post is to reason why Workington have been refused to race on a Friday, irrespective of Glasgow and Scunthorpe changing to Fridays. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Scunthorpe, Peterborough, Lakeside (?) and Workington would make six in total which is perfectly manageable given the amount of fixtures at this level Track availability is now a lot more restricted on a Saturday, so why should Workington not race on their chosen night? The fixtures dictate enough Fridays in the season for 5 or 6 to have it as their race-night. There will not be weekly racing at Championship level unless a team choose to run a dozen or more open meetings! Assuming a 50-50 split between Monday and Wednesday in the Premiership means 50 per cent of the league race on any given night. If it turns out that 3 race on one and 5 on another it would be 62.5% of the league racing on the same night! The track IS available at Workington on Friday's as that is the night they want to race!.

    Workington 2018 .

There won't be weekly official fixture home speedway for all tracks in the Championship, or the season will be finished completely by July! Won't matter if six teams used Friday night as they won't all be racing each week at home anyhow! The Friday teams would simply have a home fixture each fortnight and NOT be all at home at once (Obviously impossible for six to be at home with only 11 teams!) The fixtures would have to be planned of course, but with Edinburgh and Glasgow both now Friday night tracks, do you think the Edinburgh fixture compiler is going to have them both at home each week?. After all, 3 of the official fixtures are against each other so plenty of options to avoid clashes, and of course each team has to ride away from home on some Fridays against the other tracks. Of course each Friday track may have to use an "Off-Night" occasionally, but that would be very much understood by the likes of Workington. The key to this is good fixture planning. After all, this was voted on at the AGM, so most Championship clubs must welcome fortnightly racing! Look at the Premier for example..... I assume they are still doing 2 Home and 2 Away of course (Unless it will be a mega short season!) Following your logic...... On any given week, half the teams will be at home on a Monday, meaning ALL teams are in action that night, meaning NO guests from the Premiership! On the same week, the other half of the teams are at home on a Wednesday, meaning ALL teams are in action. meaning NO guests from the Premiership! On these occasions those without a Premiership team place are going to be in demand at some point, and are not in some cases going to be up to the standard of those they are replacing! Of course this will not be true each week as each Monday/ Wednesday track would have three home meetings against another team using the same race-night, and more importantly, each team will not have an official Home fixture each week. Back to the Championship.... The number of guests from the Premiership will be severely limited anyhow, as most of the eligible guests will already be riding in the Championship! What we are going to essentially have are two leagues with a lot of the same riders of course. The top end guys in the Premiership won't be eligible to guest through their averages being too high anyway! The whole point of fixed race nights is to ensure that all the double-uppers are always available for their respective teams. (With the exception of Swindon and the Thurs Championship tracks) As at least half of the Premiership are at home on the same night, WHY can't half the Championship teams also race on the same night?

Was also our race night for 12 years in our entire first existence at Derwent Park, so I imagine Mrs Morgan will also be thinking about crowd levels!

    Workington 2018 .

Fair enough, but my point is due to the minimal amount of Official fixtures (Fortnightly racing for most), half the League should be able to ride on the same night, so why are Workington not allowed to?

    Workington 2018 .

As a Workington fan I can see your point about the none attendance at the AGM hindering our chances of getting what we wanted. HOWEVER, most Championship clubs will only have enough official fixtures for fortnightly speedway as I see it. Even starting as late as April, if clubs were to run each week (Running on an off-day when at an away fixture on your home race night), the season would be done in terms of League and Cup Semi-Final qualification by early July, leaving 7 teams "Done" for the season, and the 4 Teams involved in the League Cup, KOC, and Play-offs 4 months to finish the season off. With the low number of official fixtures now on offer, why should Workington not be allowed to join the Friday night tracks? After all, there will be plenty of free Fridays available, and at least half of the Premiership clubs will race on the same night!
