another one ws the advert that Roger and i did for the durex 'Test Rider' advert the single shot they used on the hoardings all over the coutry and outside the staduim they put a huge one and someone wrote on it he must have got the one with the holes in, i had one by son Lee by then and the second son Craig was on the way and was only 21 or so. Bruce penhall used the clip in his on any sunday 2 film lot of fun a whole day practicing for about 4 minutes of film, and the mars dvert we did with ole olsen the work rest and play one. Sid maidmaidment was a character one you could never forget and Brad Oxley and his rather loud girl friend Tammy driving around in the Lada sid had gt for him with the bike hanging out the boot...... I have no idea about if Ros was still around in 86 i was talking about mid seventies and i think she was a physoherapist as i remember graham stapleton went out with her for a while i think

there are al ot of memories from that time but one was heres one from1976 i was brought in from eastbourne as a 17 year old kid after Tommy was killed not of course as a replacement but to ad to the bottem end anf iwas riding it must have been against exeter and was out with Ivan Mauger in one race missed thegate as always came from the back to second and tried everything i could to pass ivan he was master at making himself twice as wide as the track and turing early to block any pass, i did one of my famous dives and passed him baut he thendecided not to let me go rather he lenat on me and he ended up in the fence, larry ross came over and he worhipd ivan like a god and said go and say sorry or you will regret it i did but he just raised one finger and said your young and you have a long time togo in this sport dont let me have to end your career early!!!!! Briggo told me later that he told him that i would go far may be too far i never did shame really but he was my boy hood hero.

it was a long time ago 1977 and for me the worst night of my career was at hackney when Steve and Vic had thier accident. the NNL riders championship and the laurels though were high points i justnever knew what made me able to do what i did in 77 until i got tothe point of retirement. odd really came and went so quicky but the club had no ambition just wanted to be middle of the table, win anything and the wage bill shot up lose too many and no crowd.

  10. Hi It wasnt gordon that did the advert for Durex it was me Colin Richardson, i did the action shot that they used on the posters and Roger Johns and I did the trailer for the Durex test matches between USA and England which we filmed at Wimbledon. Wimbledon got a lot of that sort of publicity including the Mars bar TV adverts 'Work rest and play', Honda style which was from the sponsorship of the team in 1978 and the Britians toys used the photo from the Honda style brochure that i did to make a pencil drawing which they put on to the boxes of the speedway rider models.....never got paid from that either...... Colin
  11. Hi all ! I hope the meeting is a success, Vic was nice guy. Nice people should not be forgotten. I was riding that night in the 4 team tournamentfor Wimbledon. My ex-brother-in-law Steve Weatherley was paralysed in the same accident. it was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. I was sitting in the changing rooms having finished my rides taking off my leathers and listening to the race start and the bikes going round the crowd cheering then nothing it was just quiet. One of the riders came in and said that he thought the both of them where really badley injured. i rushed out on to the track the carnage was terrible and the rest is known. The rest of the night we spent at Whipps Cross Hospital I can remember when the ambulance arrived with Vic's body terrible his poor family. Steve had survived but he was paralysed at that time from the neck down. I can still remember that night in the waiting room at Whipps Cross both Vic's family and Steves all in shock. i asked Steve many years afterwards if he regretted racing seeingthe way he ended up being paralysed and in a wheel chair, he said no he loved racing and would do it again if he could tomorrow. My son Lee was born about a month before the accident..........and now he is racing.......... I cant be there i am working in the Middle East but i wish them all well for the meeting. Two really good guys who gave a lot to give entertainment to others and a sport they both loved. We should never forget their sacrifice. Colin Richardson
