  1. It's a celebration of Poole Speedway, for Poole speedway and their fans..... (and anyone else who wants to attend)

I really can't see why people are moaning, the Poole promotion have had the balls to go out and source sponsorship, riders etc to put on a good meeting, primarily for their fans but also for those who also may want to join in the celebration. People are talking about this as if this is a national thing, with a choice of venues.

We often moan about clubs not promoting and here is a club actively promoting and still people nag like an old man.

    Well said, Sue.

    This is exactly the point.

It's just some people will moan about anything without having any substance whatsoever.

I'm going to the meeting to enjoy what I believe will be a brilliant speedway meeting. If it means the Poole management will profit as a result then good luck to them.

I'm fed up with seeing half hearted Elite League Riders' Championships.

    This is the real deal.

  2. Why would it be pathetic to get riders to talk up the meeting anyway? Surely it's all a part of promoting it.

If they did get Crump to help talk it up, then good for them. Why try and play it down?

Because if you read DC's posting he suggests that Matt Ford is struggling to get any interest in this meeting and so gets on the phone to Jason Crump and pleads with him to speak to the paper and make a story about how big it is going to be.

Total nonsense. I'm all for promoting. There's not nearly enough of it these days, but this meeting sells itself.

  3. Starting to sound desperate from Matt Ford & Shovlar................drafting in Crump to big it up ...................... looks like a financial disaster....................next week: Crump v Bjarne over 15 rounds, you really must see it!

    Er?

I think you must have been deep in hibernation.

Without question, this will be probably the biggest meeting in Britain (apart from the British GP at Cardiff) in 2008.

Do you honestly think Matt Ford would want Jason Crump to build it up?

Get real. The fact is Jason Crump WANTS to win £60,000 and is honest enough to admit it.

That's the magic of this meeting. That's why I'll be travelling all the way from Yorkshire to go and watch.

For once it will be an individual meeting where ALL the riders will be going for it.

There will be no pulling out at the last moment, with "illness" or a "dodgy bike" because that £60,000 prize will be like pound signs in their eyes.

I'll only travel that sort of distance if I think it's worth it. Without doubt, this is going to be an incredible spectacle and I'll have no qualms making the journey.

I actually think admission is quite reasonable in the circumstances.

To suggest Matt Ford is trying to get riders to big it up is pathetic.

The meeting promotes itself. The riders want to win it.

    The place will be packed.

Go back and hide under your stone.

  4. Give yourselves a pat on the back.

You'll drive the best bloke out of the job.

I wouldn't blame him at all if he walked away especially after reading the drivel on this thread.

Roscoe, Chris Morton, David Norris, Gary Havelock ... they won't handle a candle to Middleditch, a million miles better than them all.

Ask yourselves: what could any of the above have done better with the riders at his disposal tonight. Zilch, nothing.

    Sometimes, I despair.

Let's pick on the easy target.

Why not Chris Harris. Where was his Millennium form tonight? He ran rings round Nicki Pedersen, Bjarne and Jason three weeks ago.

Or are you going to pick on him once Middlo has walked off into the sunset?

Always look at the alternatives before kicking the man in charge.

You'll all be sorry mark my words.

  5. I do wonder about speedway supporters sometimes... No disrespect PTW, but Wednesday's meeting has the potential to be a cracker and you're not bothered in going? Is there any reason why? Surely if you're a fan of great racing and racers you'd have to be interested, especially as the price is reduced - £10 - that's only a quid more than a CL match. I'm not having a go at you as it's your right to choose what you see and what you don't but doesn't a meeting like this tempt you even a little? I'm really looking forward to it - certainly more than I would some of the EL matches we're due.

I know that many people will stay away simply because it's not Poole and it's not the top names. Seems a shame when the entertainment will probably be be at least on a par with anything the senior team dishes up.

Just hope I'm proved right and it is a classic now ...

Rabs - I agree with you once again. If I lived near Poole and not in Doncaster I would be at that meeting like a shot. Some great young riders who you know will give 100 per cent and the Poole management have reduced admission to £10.

There's some right miserable supporters about, that's all I can say.

The line-ups look good and pretty even. Disappointed I'm not on holiday in Dorset until mid August.

  6. DD You ever heard of "Ghost Writers" ?

Er...yes CS. Did realise it wasn't ACTUALLY him answering the questions.

Simply asked if anyone remembered it.

Didn't expect sarcastic replies accusing me of some cheese having slipped off my cracker.

Remind me CS: you are the one who thinks Millard is quite good.... have you ever heard of ghost commentators...

  7. One ride was too much as far as I'm concerned.

He stated he was going to rest the "injured" leg for the rest of the season and yet five days after his club Poole went out of the Knock Out Cup semi-final without him, he's back in his kevlars again in a knockabout meeting.

To quote Andy Millman from BBC's Extras: "He's having a laugh. Is he having a laugh!"

Yes, at British speedway's expense, no less.

  8. Finally the rest of the Poole fans realise what I've been telling you for weeks!!

Lindback has been p*ssing the Pirates about all year with his 'injuries' and tiredness problems, and if there was any sort of comparable replacement WILLING to come across this year he would have been sacked a long time back!

Its a shame because he is a good rider, but treating the fans and his sponsors in England as he has done is disgraceful.

I think it's the final straw if he rides tonight in Sweden.

I never thought I would say this, but Ian Thomas summed him up saying he was a disgrace in the Speedway Star a couple of weeks ago.

I think the FIM should step in and ban the guy from speedway for a couple of years. He has duped the British public throughout 2006 with his "tiredness", "illness" and now "leg injury".

Lindback should be used as an example to stop others picking and choosing in years to come.

By stopping him riding full stop, he might understand how his serious his actions have been this year.

If he is contractually committed to these clubs, he should fulfil the fixtures. If not, why sign it at the start of the season.

To carry on letting Poole down and embarrassing their supporters has just been unbelievable - and I don't even support Pirates.

Rickardsson, Jonsson and now Lindback. Picking and choosing when they want to ride in Britain. How many more next year.

It's got to stop and NOW.

  9. How refreshing that Malcolm Simmons has taken time out to read and comment on the BSF at a time when so many clubs seem to want to knock the anonamous writers on this website. We are the fans and perhaps our views should be taken on board not criticsed out of hand. Well done, Super Simmo, I hope your book sells well.

  10. I would like to see articles on people prominent in the sport who are not neccesarily ex riders. Someone like Dave Lanning from the TV commentating point of view would be an interesting subject, as would high profile promoters from the era.

More feature based articles would add variety - the possibilites would be endless.

I reckon eventually you must run out of the really big name interviews.

In fact, who is there left of the truly big stars from the 70'sand 80's?

Gundersen, Olsen, Morans - who else? Not many.

    Fantastic mag

    Keep up the good work.

    PS

    Minor Nitpick

Hackney reunion (clearly of personal interest to the author) gets a whopping four pages, other tracks with equally long histories get substantially less!!

Agree with everything you say KTL apart from your PS. I thought the Hackney reunion piece was a great read. Hopefully other tracks will get reunions to follow suit. Dave Lanning would be a good feature and perhaps he Backtrack could then officially tell me that he turned Sky down which is the reason we have to listen to the dreadful Millard week in week out!!!!!

  11. Dont kid yerselves people we have 2 chances of winning the SWC slim and none and slim just left town!!!  Middlo is another SGE. Good at club level but cannot produce the goods at International level. This will be his 6th crack at the SWC and we wont beat the Danes, Poles or Swedes no chance.

He doesnt pick riders in form look at Chris Louis he has beaten Crump at Belle Vue Andersen at Peterborough and Nikki Ped at Arlington in the last few weeks 3 world class riders.  He has got a lot of experience of Polish tracks due to his GP appearances and regular Polish league racing in the 90s.

Sorry people but with Middlo in charge we aint got a hope in hell of winning the SWC it will turn out just like the football world cup full of false hope.

...I think Middleditch has done a wonderful job as national manager and should be congratulated, not knocked. The difference between Eriksson and Middleditch is that Eriksson had the pick of some of the finest players in the world and failed to make them gel as a team in the world cup. Compare that with Middleditch who has had to work with limited resources and very few up and coming Brits. Its a miracle he's managed to steer the team into the final four for as long as he has.

He picked Louis for the final - and it didnt work. So he tried everything.

If you asked all the British riders Im sure they are happy with Middleditch in charge.

Lets leave him alone and pat him on the back for a job well done. To help GB ahead of Australia, Poland and Ameria in this years world cup is an excellent achievement when you consider how few Brit riders he has to select from in the Elite League.

All the criticism and he will knock it on the head and then you will have someone inferior. Get off his back.
