  1. Anyone want to start this topic off? ...oh, I already have! Oh go on then Starman you do it. ooops this isn't the Poole forum is it. Pirates to win then.
  2. Ok, try again.... I expect a dry, sunny & leisurely 90 minute trip up to Blunsdon. And I expect a dry leisurely 90 minute trip home. ....what do you mean the score? Haven't got a clue as long as Poole win! Over to you Starman!
  3. And Simon Stead is off to a flying start. Good for Sheffield. A Sheffield v Rye House PL Final in September? I won't remember i predicted this by September! Just a minute....these 2 clubs were at the foot of the PL last year. Yes, a Tigers v Rockets Final will be awesome for them, but watch out for Somerset, and Edinburgh, and Ipswich, and.........blah blah blah the other clubs
  4. Should have watched the weather forecast Starman!!! You could have saved all that petrol money & moaning I'm going on Monday when it won't rain... well, let's hope it won't!
  5. I get mine at speedway during the season at Poole. Wednesday night is great cos we get first hand delivery before the shops on a Thursday. Close season I get it at "Smiths". This week they sold out by 12 noon so I got mine from Asda. Perfect. Brilliant edition. Look forward to the Star every week. 51 complete years of the Star now & the pile is growing in my cupboard........Keep up the team photos please like last season. I do love a centre page double spread....... One request though.......perhaps a complete page or two dedicated to the MD League & Northern Junior League, riders results etc & less on grasstrack? Thats all. Last year I predicted Rye House would finish top of the PL....sadly for them it was almost the opposite. This year I predict I will be right or wrong & success for the Rockets. What a start for them. PL Champions 2015 for them? Don't forget you read it here.
  6. What a pathetic argument this is! Why not start the 1980's again when certain riders were found guilty of cheating, fraud & bribery during the season, & that's only what we know about. Let's re-run all the league championships & include play-offs prior to the play-off days & then let's re run all the world finals pre GP days & deduct all the points scored by dishonest riders & management! And if you still don't agree then let's go back to 1929 because they didn't use the correct silencers in them days etc etc etc etc blah blah blah

    2015 El Predictions

    1. Coventry 2. Poole 3. King's Lynn 4. Belle Vue 5. Lakeside 6. Swindon 7. Leicester 8. Wolverhampton Play-Off Final: Poole v Coventry (winner to be announced in October - or November if it rains again) A very close league this year with few away wins I suspect. Bees look to have all round strength. (even without Bridger !) Pirates, well...a good top 3 (Holder, Watt & Ward or Janowski) & tough reserves. Stars have a nice balance but reserves will need to score well. Aces can be a bit unpredictable and with a familiar side from last season ought to do well but.......I would love them to reach the Play-Offs for a change. Hammers are tough at home. A couple of away wins would make them Play-Off challengers though. Robins are pretty consistent at home & have a class FTR in Wright. Depends also on how th 2 Poles will do. Lions have a bit of a muddled team for me. Grandpa Bjarne could hold the key & Doyley will lead the team well again. Wolves. Well someone has to finish bottom but I suspect Blackbird will rack up the points. And if it means anything I thought Rye House would top the PL last year !!!!!

Will change my Track records at those mentioned. Its one thing I don't keep an eye on to update! Yes, I have every clubs' records, all defunct, 2nd & 3rd Division's too. I have an incredible records history of speedway since 1928 to date. I could be regarded as a bit of an anorak but with health issues it has been my hobby since I was a child and often sold it all on Ebay on DVD-R. (plug) Yes, the Reading track record was the oldest. The averages given are overall & include all League, KOC, Gold Cups, Craven Shields (except 2000 onwards as they were 3 Team Tournaments) I include BSPA Cup's, Spring Gold Cups of the 70's as I think they deserve to be included as it was a highly regarded competition in those days, but wish I hadn't included them as they were not used in official records & I may have a few discrepancies there.

  15. Can anyone help with the winners & years from the following events please................ Second City Trophy (Birmingham) Brandonapolis (Coventry) Star of Anglia (Ipswich) 16 Lap Classic (Ipswich) Teesside Silver Helmet (Middlesbrough / Redcar) Yorkshire Open (Sheffield) Silver Plume (Swindon) Ladbroke Olympique (Wolves) Pride of the Potteries (Stoke) Yorkshire TV Trophy (Hull) Manpower Trophy (Reading) KRC Trophy (Peterborough) Warners Superama (Hackney) Dews Trophy (Halifax) Bordernapolis (Berwick) Golden Gauntlets (Leicester) Fen Trophy (Mildenhall) The Laurels (Wimbledon)
  16. Thanks for the help so far. I'm on the trail. Yes, "Major" event was stretching it a bit. I was essentially looking for the well established events but any will be a bonus. I will just expand my history.
  17. Thanks for these.........& the Golden Soveriegn.
  18. I have the results of other top events but strangely not the ones listed above. the Northern Star Championship from Sunderland.....? That was a rare one. Can't think what Newcastle, Workington, Oxford & Scunthorpe have staged! I don't have any books on speedway any longer only Speedway Stars from 1964 and it would take years to trawl through that lot to get the info I need. There were so many local individuals from the past especially the 70's. Almost every club held its own. Perhaps there are others anyone can think of? The following I have..... Blue Riband, Northern, Midland, Southern, London & Scottish Riders Champs, Peter Craven & other Memorials, all FIM & BSPA shared events.

    Poole 2015

Chris & Darcy always a solid top 2. Chris is consistent, Darcy, a little over exuberent on some of his riding moves which can & have backfired on him sometimes, nevertheless, a powerful top 2. Davey always performs better at Poole as I beleive his heart is there & will want to add another League title for himself. But please lets not have him in heat 13!!!! Dakota, a nice middle order rider but I would have preferred Milik any day. Can't understand why Matt chose him over Vaclav. A 3 pointer at 5. Well, anyone would do I suppose as you can always have Kyle Newman take his other ride. Brady Kurtz would fit the bill, average permitting. And I like the thought of him in the team anyway. If Kyle performs as last season then our reserves, with Paul Starke will be a treat. Kyle will improve even with a tinkering of heat changes. He has good EL experience now & wish him well, and I think Starkey will back him up all the way. So there you have CheekyBoys prediction for the new season. Top 3 for Pirates next year with Coventry & Swindon filling the other spots. Leicester bottom again, or Wolves.

    Three quarters-full of ads though...
  21. Still no GP programmes on Star website since British GP Philip!!!
  22. Well done for that lot Mimmo. Any final stats for MDL?
  23. That's very kind of you markyb to give us the honour of being league champions before the actual final! After all, we did finish top:-) I however, prefer to keep my chickens warm and wrapped up until said final has taken place. Better that way. Old chinese proverb say Egg on face sticky.
  24. Look forward to the Star every week. My collection now has 50 years of the mag. That's about 2 and half thousand of them. Been fantastic for my research and nostalgia. I remember when colour was introduced. How wonderful we thought that was then. Its a great mag that covers the sport generously. My only negative is that there ought to be more space devoted to Junior racing and less for grass track. Let's see who these juniors are and the clubs they ride for. More pages would be nice but obviously cost cutting has to be kept to. When you think the cost of a programme and what little content there is in them the Star wins hands down. I don't buy a programme any longer as i don't want a book of ads. Speedway Star is excellent value once a week in my opinion. Keep up the good work Philip. Oh by the way, when are the remaining GP covers going to be online? Haven't seen the Scandinavian prog anywhere.
