Ok.. the Finnish Pairs Final is canceled. That is the latest news from teamlaine.com. Any idea why?

And yeap, at the moment we have about 12 good riders at the moment. Almost all of them are still gettin better. But that sport would stay alive we would need a lot more riders. And at the moment it doesnt look good. Only 1 or 2 guys from mini-speedway per year to the big bikes. That is not enough to fill in the lines when some of us quits speedway per year.

It was cancelled by the organizing club but is most likely organized at a later date on a different track. Daft behind the scene politics might be the #1 reason but I dont wanna go there...

I was at Hyvinkää yesterday where they were having a practise camp in an effort to put the track back on the speedway map. Pasi Pulliainen and Jari Mäkinen had a few heats totally forgetting that is was just practise. The plan is to get a team from Hyvinkää for next year and it's more than just a rumour now since it was told to me face to face by someone who generally gets behind his word.

I hope they get speedway back to Hyvinkää. And the track in to good condition. Few years back I remember that one rider busted his engine because track was so soft that bottom of the engine was against the track. And lowest bolts from the JRM engine were gone after the meeting..

Here's hoping that it's just a postponment rather than a cancellation. The weather has been a bit crazy in Finland lately after almost a record warm summer. Cities have been swimming in water and radical waeather phenomenons have taken human lives too.. That has not happened befoer according to my memory.

That does not explain the possible rider shortage, but in my view the organizers might look to other meeting formats at times rather than the same that has been doen since grandpa first attended a meeting in Australia back before the grear wiener sausage war...

Extraliiga next tuesday at Pori is the next one.

When and were was it? Was it 6th round? When will be 5th? I have in terminlist Kaupunki Cup in Lahti 15.08 - do you know something about it?

Tuesday at Pori, round six. 5th was rained off at Lahti last saturday and re-staged September 7th. Kaupunki Cup 1 that was rained off in May is at Pori on September 19th. Pairs final is at Pori on September 18th with Kemppi still without a new date.

Lahti II was closed out from the Cup after two no shows and their home meeting on August 15th was scrapped.

It was an excellent meeting yesterday... These during the week meetings add a little drama, there was an incident when Timo Lahti and Jari Mäkinen almost ended up in a punch up on the home straight, loads of controversial refereeing (which was a shame, but only will benefit the ref in the future as it was his first EL meeting) and a brilliant move by Hautamäki to pass Aarnio on the line. Teemu Lahti didn't score that heavily but was always there to help his partner. Siltaniemi had a fall while trying to pass the Lahti bros, a good move but he was forced too wide and ran out of room. Excellent team riding there by the brothers.

Mäkinen/Lahti incident in heat five started as Mäkinen made a mistake exiting turn 2 and his bike started to lift. He wobbled abit and lost speed and as Lahti had already started to make a pass he got there pretty easily. Mäkinen's line had changed as his bike lifted more and he eventually had to let the bike go and it hit the beck end of Lahti's bike that halted at the end of the straight. Younger Lahti was furious and ready to drop his gloves as he walked towards the now up again Mäkinen and would probably have dropped Mäkinen again (well thats up for a debate, Timo is quite small compared :D ) unless his brother would have come to say there was no need as it was not intentional. Teemu was watching it all along 10 meters behind the pair. My call would have been to exclude Mäkinen as the cause but the ref decided on a all4back. I got to say that of a half a dozen people I spoke to, only one would have called it the same and that was Teemu Lahti. Weird meeting that way, nobody seemed to agree with me... B)

Extraliiga and 80cc Suomen Cup tomorrow at Kauhajoki.

EDIT: No protests from Pori...

Also on saturday they are riding the Jensen Cup in Sweden and a few Finnish riders will be there and not able to ride in the EL meeting.

Dont know if I've mentioned yet, but this season has seen some great speedway over here! B)

Paholaiset 11

Jouni Viljanen 10110 3

Marko Suojanen 3T1 4

Jere Lehtonen T11011 4

Erä erältä:

1. Lahti, Hautamäki, T.Lahti, Pulliainen 61,17

2. Keskinen, Henderson, Viljanen 62,14

3. Suojanen, Reima, Hyyryläinen 68,88

4. Siltaniemi, Autio, Loppi, Lehtinen 61,86

5. Hautamäki, Henderson, Pulliainen, Keskinen 60,38

6. T.Lahti, Reima, Lehtonen, Viljanen 61,36

7. T.Lahti, Henderson, Lahti, Keskinen 60,67

8. Siltaniemi, Autio, Lehtonen 62,31

9. Hautamäki^, Pulliainen, Viljanen 61,72

10. Lehtinen, Hyyryläinen, Reima, Loppi 62,36

Tuomari: Matti Koivuoja, katsojia 95.

Haukat are throwing it away... Rene Lehtinen made a comeback scoring 7 from 5 and Siltaniemi took 12 from 5 with 33033. Hautamäki won it for Kotkat, again.

Thats make's the standings currently at:

Seura - M - P - +

Kotkat 6 26 189

Haukat 6 24 183

Jokerit 6 20 168

Paholaiset 6 13 131

Paholaiset had only 3 riders at Kauhajoki so that would mean a one point deduction and thats calculated in my standings. Alltough Kotkat has been allowed twice to enter a meeting this season with a non-full team without points deductions... Go figure! This will definately take the previously mentioned two months to resolve itself.

Actually I meant

Marko Hyyrylainen back on track? He has a break near 5 years?

Yes. He rode a few heats for HMK in the pairs final 2007 but hasn't been in any teams since. Has ridden though weekly or monthly for what I'm told. Wouldn't be surprised if he rides the rest of the league too...
