PLYMOUTH continue an important run of four National League matches in 12 days when they face the Isle of Wight at the St Boniface Arena on Friday evening (7.30pm).

 

It gives the Devils a chance of quick revenge following Tuesday’s 52-41 defeat away to the Islanders.

 

Plymouth have two more crucial fixtures in their bid to reach the championship play-offs with a home match against King’s Lynn on Friday July 23 followed by a visit to bottom on the table Weymouth on Saturday July 24.

 

The Devils retain an unchanged line-up from Tuesday. David Gough is still sidelined with a collarbone injury and the rider replacement facility will again be in operation.

 

The Islanders will be without number one Nick Simmons, who is unavailable, and use Dudley’s 19-year-old Australian Micky Dyer as a guest replacement. He top-scored for the Somerset Giants on their recent visit to the St Boniface Arena.

 

Dyer and former Plymouth rider Ben Hopwood will be supported by Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson and 43-year-old Ricky Scarboro with Dean Felton and Tom Hill at reserve.

Comments: Devils win toss and take 1-3.

Devils gated but Dyer passed Stephens up the inside of bend 4 lap 1. Stephens then came to grief on bend 1 lap 2, when he tried to go back round Dyer. Meanwhile Dyer then went on to pass Bates up the inside of backstraight of lap 2 and won well!!!.

Heat 02: Felton, Pickard, Reade, Hill 3-3 5-7 52.09

Line Up: Pickard, Reade, Felton, Hill

Comments: From the gate but Pickard close for all 4 laps and nearly got Felton on run to the line.

Heat 03: Starke, Bates, Johnson, Warwick 5-1 10-8 52.34

Line Up: Starke, Bates, Johnson, Warwick

Comments: Tight 1st bend but Starke around Johnson and Bates under him to put the Devils on a 5-1 entering the backstraight. Easy after that for Plymouth and well strung out.

Heat 04: Simmonds, Hopwood, Reade, Hill(EF) 4-2 14-10 52.50

Line Up: Simmonds, Reade, Hopwood, Hill

Comments: Devils gated and looked comfortable. Hill retired on the 1st bend with an engine failure after missing the gate. Hopwood though charged hard and passed Reade up the inside of bend 1 lap 4 with a cracking move. Simmonds untroubled though and won with ease.

Heat 05: Dyer, Starke, Scarboro, Pickard 2-4 16-14 53.84

Line Up: Starke, Pickard, Dyer, Scarboro

Comments: Starke gated but drifted wide allowing Dyer to cut back on bend 2 to take the lead, although Starke got close on lap 2 Dyer pulled away to win easily and looks very impressive. Pickard fell and re-mounted.

Comments: From the gate for Stephens but Hopwood kept him honest. Bates managed to hang onto 3rd despite having a poorly bike for the last 2 laps.

Heat 07: Simmonds, Warwick, Reade, Johnson(EX) 4-2 24-18 52.37

Line Up: Simmonds, Reade, Johnson, Warwick

Comments: Race stopped, Johnson falls on bend 4 lap 1, whilst battling for 1st. It was tight as all 4 were pretty close Brendan a little unlucky but no one really at fault in Mikeys opinion.

Re-run: From the gate by Simmonds who won by a mile!. Reade kept Warwick on his toes but didnt have enough to pass.

Heat 08: Pickard, Felton, Scarboro, Bates(EF) 3-3 27-21 53.75

Line Up: Bates, Pickard, Scarboro, Felton

Comments: Bates misses the 2 minutes and goes off 15 metres.

Re-run: Stopped again, Tapes have now buggered up.

Re-runX2: Felton gated and led for all 4 laps until Pickard produced a brilliant last bend around the boards to win on the line. Bates packed up lap 2 as his bike was still sounding awful!.

Heat 09: Hopwood, Pickard, Starke, Felton 3-3 30-24 52.32

Line Up: Starke, Pickard, Hopwood, Felton

Comments: Good race!. Islanders gated but Pickard went up the inside of bend 2 to take lead. He held the lead til bend 4 lap 2 when Hopwood swept passed him on the outside!. Meanwhile at the back Starke who struggled to make the jump off the tricky gate 4 passed Felton around the outside of bend 1 lap 3 to take 3rd.

Comments: 2 Finishers only!. From the gate for Stephens. Bates didnt get off the start line and Johnson packed up bend 4 lap 2 whilst 3rd.

Comments: Fuzzy Felton on a TR.

Starke gated and won by a mile!. Reade a comfortable 2nd, But Felton had an engine failure on bend 1 lap 1 Mikey thinks he shed a chain.

Comments: Dyer on a TR.

Stephens gated and off!. Simmonds and Dyer had a ding dong for first 2 laps. Dyer held Simmonds off but drifted wide on bend 1 lap 2 allowing Simmonds to take 2nd which he held onto before pulling away. Simmonds passed Stephens on the line.

Comments: Warwick gated but Starke swept round him on bend 4 lap 1 and Pickard passed him up the inside of bend 2 lap 2. Easy!!.

Comments: Plymouth take 1-3.

Race stopped, Pickard fell on bend 1 and is excluded. Tight call shouldve been all 4 back really. Typical Gay Call. (Updaters comment: LMFAO).

Re-run: Stopped again Stephens moving all 3 back.

Re-runX2: From the gate for Stephens. Hopwood close but not close enough.

Weather: Cloudy with some blue sky around, but have had a few heavy showers over the past few hours.. Also quite windy and chilly.

 

Track: Looks bone dry, In fact its currently being watered. Looks slick though.
