http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/speedway-news/panthers-need-5-000-to-survive-1-6441662 Panthers need £5,000 to survive Its do or die time for Peterborough Panthers. The city speedway club are still approximately £5,000 short of their survival target with a deadline to declare their intention to race on in 2015 looming large. Panthers officials were granted a stay of execution by the sports bosses at the recent British Speedway Promoters Association (BSPA) annual meeting. That runs out at the end of tomorrow (Friday). But Ged Rathbone (above), who has spearheaded the rescue package with long-serving co-promoter Trevor Swales, remains upbeat that the required £40,000 figure can be met. He said: We are getting closer and closer all the time, but we are not there yet. Money is coming in by the hour and by the day and hopefully we can make it. We must notify the BSPA of our intention to run before the close of play tomorrow and Im confident we will be able to do that. Im not even contemplating failure. Coming up short would almost certainly lead to the closure of a club with a rich history stretching back to 1970. Anyone keen to offer financial backing to Peterborough can do so by emailing pantherspledge2015@gmail.com

http://www.peterboroughpanthers.co/news.php?extend.2335.2 http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.27815 NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT Monday November 24, 2014 One of the men spearheading the bid to save Peterborough has called for a late surge of backing. Ged Rathbone, who is working alongside Trevor Swales in an attempt to bring Panthers back to the tapes in 2015, reports they are now £7,000 short of reaching the £40,000 required to operate at Premier League level. But they only have until the close of business on Friday (November 28) to complete their rescue package. Rathbone said: "We're very pleased to see the amount of money raised going up and we are doing all we can to reach our target. "But if there are people out there thinking about helping financially, this is the time we really need them to come forward. "We have to be in a position to declare our intention to race on by the close of play on Friday." Any individuals or businesses keen to make a financial pledge can get in touch via email to pantherspledge2015@gmail.com

Another update due early next week. The grader has already been purchased by the supporters club. For those that want to help with smaller amounts might be interested to know that there will be 'brick wall' page in the programme. A brick can contain a personal message or advert and will cost just £10 for the whole season. If anyone is interested in this please contact Alison by emailing pantherspledge2015@gmail.com

http://m.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/speedway-news/panthers-have-just-10-days-to-find-10-000-1-6427518 Panthers have just 10 days to find £10,000 Peterborough Panthers chief Trevor Swales has issued a public thank-you to the sports governing body... and a rallying call to supporters as the club faces a race against time to survive. Swales successfully sought an extension in which to be in a position to declare an intention to race at Premier League level in the 2015 season when attending the British Speedway Promoters Association (BSPA) annual meeting last weekend. Panthers stay of execution expires on November 30 which means they now have 10 days in which to raise £10,000. Long-serving co-promoter Swales and North-East businessman Ged Rathbone, who joined the management team during last season, are around three-quarters of the way to hitting their £40,000 target to finance their operational costs. It is understood that other start-up costs, totalling around £24,000, have been covered. Swales said: It goes without saying that Im extremely grateful to the BSPA for the way they handled our situation. We were not in a position to declare we would run at the annual meeting and we now have the next few days in which to get there. We remain hopeful that we can hit our target and must stress again that we will not consider running if we fall short. We are approaching businesses morning, noon and night to try to generate revenue and we are leaving no stone unturned. It would be devastating if we didnt make it after working so hard and raising so much money. I would urge all supporters to dig as deep as they possibly can or come to us with any leads for sponsorship they may have. Co-owners Rick Frost and Julie Mahoney have thrown their weight behind the Panthers survival bid. Business and family commitments have prevented them from taking an active role in the running of the club, but they have pledged financial support by offering to become the main team sponsors through their Readypower company. They declined to reveal the exact value of the deal, but have promised to stump up the cash even if another major backer can be found. Mahoney said: We offered for Readypower to act as main team sponsors. We are more than willing to step aside, while still putting in the money, if another major sponsor can be sourced. Trevor and Ged are the only people to have shown interest in keeping the club going and we have given them as much support as we can. Myself and Rick very much hope the club can race on in 2015 and beyond. Frost and Mahoney have also agreed a deal whereby the speedway facilities and equipment they own at the Showground will be available for the club to use next season for free. Any individuals or businesses keen to make a financial pledge can get in touch via email to pantherspledge2015@gmail.com.

http://m.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/speedway-news/panthers-survival-bid-is-on-the-home-straight-1-6413878 Panthers survival bid is on the home straight A make or break few days lie ahead according to one of the men driving Peterborough Panthers survival bid. North-East businessman Ged Rathbone has teamed up with long-serving official Trevor Swales to spearhead a rescue package for the city club. Rathbone revealed they are three-quarters of the way to hitting their £40,000 funding target with the British Speedway Promoters Association (BSPA) annual meeting looming large. Club bosses are due round the table in Kenilworth over the next three days, Friday (14 November) to Sunday, to thrash out the sports make-up for 2015 - and Panthers still hope to be a part of it. They will either need to be able to declare an intention to race or seek an extended period of time in which to be in that position. Rathbone said: We may not reach the target by tomorrow when the AGM starts, but one last push could make all the difference. We will be represented at the AGM regardless of whether or not we are in a position to declare our intention to run next season. At the very least we hope to be given the chance to put forward a case to the BSPA to be granted late entry just as was the case last winter. Hopefully they will be understanding again, but it is safe to say everything hinges on the next few days which are going to be make or break. We have said all along that the club needs to be a viable proposition both for 2015 and beyond, and we need to make sure we have the money in place that we feel is necessary. We cannot allow the club to be in a situation again where the finances run out. We are not here to make money, but we need to break even and we certainly cannot contemplate the sort of losses that have been reported during the 2014 season. Peterborough Speedway has been Trevors life for a long time and it has become mine in the past few months. But we will not fall into the trap of letting our hearts rules our heads. This has to work and by that I mean we are able to track a team that can challenge to win the league. We will not settle for merely making the numbers up and we are in a fantastic position of having riders get in contact to ask to be considered for a team spot if we are able to continue racing. Rathbone revealed he is actively pursuing several potential major sponsors as Panthers bid to boost their commercial income. He also reports a terrific take up of advertising packages that have already been released. Several race sponsors have already been found and a number of air-fence banners have been sold at a cost of £250 plus VAT. Rathbone added: We were very conscious of making our sponsorship deals affordable when pricing them and the response has astounded us. People are proving over and over again that they want speedway to continue in Peterborough. There is also a hell of a lot of interest in the VIP packages we are offering and season tickets although we cant set the exact price until such a time that our participation for next season is known. All the money that has been donated or provided for sponsorship is being looked after by the Supporters Club. Every single penny has been documented and invoiced and if we are not able to race on in 2015 every penny will be returned. But we obviously hope that is not the case. Anyone keen to donate or take up sponsorship opportunities should get in touch by email to pantherspledge2015@gmail.com.
