In 50 years of watching this wonderful sport, Ivan gave me my most memorable occasion - the 1970 World Final victory in Wroclaw which I was fortunate enough to attend His title win with so much stacked against him in the then far off land of Poland was immense and the memory of that meeting will stay with me for ever Thanks, Ivan - with every good wish to you and your family at this even more difficult time

Why is this a "special dispensation" case There have - sadly - been many many instances of a rider being injured and unable to compete for a number of weeks, and clubs have dealt with them Again, I ask, why "special dispensation" for Poole / Ward?

It's all our fault really, guys - if we just ignored Mr Shoveller's posts, in the end he might go away and hang up his shovel Let's do it - let's not take the bait anymore

Possibly the best ever description of the wretched Mr Shoveller I think you'll find that Nicki is the current leader of the SGP

Swindon V Coventry 3/4/14
Midland Red replied to TheSmiler's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Just trying to help maintain the remnants of the Queen's English - and perhaps assist anyone who may have a written examination or job application ahead of them, in the hope that it helps them to avoid a pitfall in misusing the word! Does it matter? Of course it does! Unfortunately you are not alone in making this particular error - it would be nice to see it eradicated! Have a good day! -

Coventry Bees - My Memories
Midland Red replied to markyb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Not all the Bees fans, Haza! I have hundreds of happy memories back to 1964, and not one of them involves Mr Olsen The Man (Mountford), The Beau (Boocock), Cap'n Jim (Lightfoot), Hurriken (McKinlay), then on to the extremely young Shirra, the galloping Guglielmi, Matousek, Knudsen, Miller, Bomber - not forgetting dear old Les Owen, and the locals like Ridley, Lomas, Cottrell, Harrhy, Bailey, Hill, etc who we watched progress through the ranks from the "third half" races to team places Great memories indeed! -
Well, here goes . . . thoughts, anyone?

Speedway Best Pairs
Midland Red replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
In individual (and team) meetings, the object is to finish first in a race, or as high as possible to gain the most points available But with the 4,3,2,0 scoring in pairs, there is little or no incentive [certainly in the semi-finals and final] to try and win the race, but for both to finish ahead of one opposition rider - as was seen last night, let the leader go and tuck in for 2nd and 3rd and we will "win" - the "spectacle" of a rider/riders trying to catch and overtake the leader is nullified - not great entertainment at what should be the climax of the meeting -

Elite Riders Championship - 25/09/2014
Midland Red replied to Woz01's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
So the BSPA Meeting Co-ordinator only arrives 2 hours before start time - that sounds really conscientious of him and his organisation No doubt there were fans there well before that time - surely he should have been one of the first on duty, to meet with stadium officials, operating promoter/s, broadcasting bodies, riders, etc . . . . . This beggars belief! Mecca, maybe! You mean he tried to get a big car into a little car instead of the other way round?????? -

Who was the announcer last Friday? Was David Hammond on duty on Sunday? I see that Gordon Camwell is still listed on the Bees website - has he come, has he gone, or what? -
Full marks to Mr Horton for this statement Sadly, it does sound as if the end of Coventry Speedway is closer than we ever imagined
