QUOTE (Robbie B @ Jul 3 2009, 11:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good call but 1928 - 1963 is only 35 years, Ross has been going for 37 and counting. Oops - the 20's to the 60's seemed a long span 1975 (or 1972) seems so recent that I forgot we're nearly in the 2nd decade of the next century (as the years/months/weeks/days fly by at my age!) Similar to the comment recently that the war in Iraq (which is only a current event) has lasted longer than the major conflict that was World War II - time perspective is so difficult to grasp Anyway, well done Larry Ross!

Millenium Stadium Or Wembley Stadium ?
Midland Red replied to zonkers's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
All this talk about Wembley - don't forget it's NOT the Empire Stadium with all its history and memories from Lionel van Pragg through to Ole Olsen, calling at Freddie Williams, Peter Craven and Ove Fundin on the way It's a brand new 21st century concrete monstrosity There's no magic to the "new" Wembley" like there was about Sir Arthur Elvin's old place The location of the Millenium Stadium (or Anfield South, as Liverpool fans would have you call it), so close to the centre of the city and with Cardiff Bay nearby, seems from the other posts to be far more favoured than the Industrial Park which is Wembley, Middlesex -
Surely this has to be Ron Johnson, who rode prior to coming over from Australia in 1928, and last rode in 1963

Midland Red replied to snapper-racing.co.uk's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Hang on! According to Mill-Lard, it's actually "A-Rune" (in the "A-Red" helmet colours) - all words beginning with the letter R have to be prefixed with A- And of course you forgot the Polish licence! -
Swedish Gp 2009
Midland Red replied to Ghostwalker's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
IMHO the referee was correct, since I cannot for the life of me, and with over 40 years watching our fabulous sport, see how Nicki Peeeeeedersen was the cause of the race being stopped Yes, it was sad to see Scott Nicholls struggle so much, it is beyond belief that he is so far off the pace As far as Chris Harris is concerned, a terrific win in heat 1, and track conditions probably caused him to drop two or even three points later on - certainly he was not out of his depth, although like others on that "track", when at the back there was very little hope except for errors from those in front -

But how many times can he use the word "certainly" in one sentence ? Without riding on a Polish Licence ?? !! -

Midland Red replied to snapper-racing.co.uk's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I learned something from Millard on Saturday night about the Grands Prix which I didn't realise before "From the semi-finals, it's every man for himself" So what was the idea of the first 20 heats - team riding or what? - perhaps that's why there were 20 processions But that can't be right, because in each of the 20 heats, one rider was disappointed By the way, Emil has a Polish passport -
Re : Mountford, Ron leads Ashby, Martin of Exeter 68-1 Just a thought - is it Man Mountford, or actually Col Cottrell ?

Thanks guys - brilliant replies and clarification of the location Hope this link works http://maps.live.com/#JndoZXJlMT10cm9vbit3...TIxODc0OTk5OTk4 Pity there's nothing left to see of the track Looking forward to Leicester's third venue - hope it's as good as Blackbird Road was Thanks again PS The link only takes you to the crossroads but move NE with birds eye view and the wedge is clearly visible

Much to the present Mrs Red's disgust ("not another book!"), I've just received my copy, purchased via Amazon from Orbiting Books, for £6.59 plus £2.75 shipping, total £9.34, delivered in two days Suggest this route to anyone who still needs a copy - and they are mint, not used! - well recommended Looking forward to settling down to a good read now!
