I would imagine the only thing Brandon estates would consider is a scaled down residential development that leaves the stadium intact and able to continue.
Shades of Swindon though.

12 hours ago, Toady said:Surely any potential future applications would have to take into account the inspectors reasons for refusal which were heavily weighted around the loss of the stadium with its established use not being surplus to requirements, and that the ‘benefits’ of the alternative provision do not outweigh its loss.
With that in mind any alternative provision would have to be “better” than a 3G pitch and invariably cost BE even more money.
Absolutely this
Brandon estates only hope is that stock cars and speedway somehow disappears at some stage in the future removing the loss of the stadium argument.
But as the toadmeister said before have they deep enough pockets to keep losing money.
they bought the land evicted motorsports and have had no return on it for seven years ,only costs.
maybe it’s loose change for BE maybe not

The campaign group have used the term "coats for goalposts" in their vision for getting speedway back again .
on a YouTube clip after the recent enquiry victory Jeff Davies stated that the back straight stand would be refurbished along the back straight terracing giving a 3,000 capacity.
A structural survey would be undertaken on the main grandstand to ascertain what's to be done with that .
Fingers crossed it happens
yes I know for the doom and gloom merchants we don't own it they can land bank it etc

Absolutely DJ
This would be like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
anyways the councillors at the planning meeting in 2022 concurred that houses at Brandon were not appropriate ,namely the token affordable houses ,as the local amenities were lacking and residents would be relying on a not so good bus route .
kudos to the campaign group.
What next for BE ?? I don’t know if they can do much now but sit on it ,but that’s not much of a plan is it ,no development possible its a liability for them now such a shame.
At some stage they will need to cut and run and get something back from their speculative purchase.

but that one was ruled out there were others I’m sure but I forget now it’s been so long.whatever happens what a fantastic campaign that has been fought by the SCS group .
Kudos to JD and the team.

Might well be right I was going in the original info before the 3 week delay

I think the SCS group said a verdict would be in about 2 weeks after the final day of the appeal

On 10/14/2023 at 10:38 AM, Toady said:As I said, was that not the role of the council and Scs barristers to pose those questions ? Iam afraid that ship has sailed. One can only hope that the proposed development fails on the other matters up for consideration as was laid out at the start.
Absolutely the merits of the development have been shown to be flawed with affordable tick box houses in the wrong place. Everything BE tried to do was deflection.
As others have mused on here I’m confident the houses will be refused again but what that leads to is another story.
I reckon SCS should get Phil Morris to sum up tomorrow I reckon he is still up for a bundle with BE.

Also, didn't Mr Humphreys state Jeff Davies wanted to "take to the mike" at the start of todays proceedings?
NHS want money from Brandon estates if the site is developed for houses ,to compensate for services to be rendered as it were ,£133k I think.

Quite
and that in warren hunter’s submission he said the only years a loss was made was when the greyhounds were operated.

I thought the fordmeister did well he fought his corner calmly.
he expressed his experience as a promoter would make Coventry successful as an older statesman of the sport -go Cecil.
So Taking the positives the most successful promoter wants to promote speedway at Brandon.
we have a millionaire businessman with the funds to renovate the stadium appropriately.
stock cars will always thrive at Brandon
Phil morris explained vehemently the current media and state of speedway in a positive manner.
On the negative side it would be easy for the chair to add weight to the affordable housing provision so as to expedite the site not laying desolate for another seven years.
probably an irrational worry by me though.

In the original planning meeting November 2022 the councillors who rejected the proposal were adamant that the affordable housing would be in the wrong place, with little or no local amenities
schools must be a factor Binley woods primary school is opposite the stadium but have they the capacity?
however high school wise under Warwickshire Bilton or rugby schools must be 7 miles away.
coventry wise I don’t know.

Warren hunter is the ex stock car person who indeed is not short of a bob or two.
David carter is part of the save Coventry speedway and stock car campaign group.
equally looking forward to Matt Ford speak I am sure he will have prepared and be ready to fight his corner.

We have to skewer them with their own BS £13.6m to remove the grandstand that £109k per house how is that viable.
hunter did say £51m turnover
-
Phil morris to be applauded, skewered the opposition ,the decaying sport statement got right under his skin.
CVS was quality as well rebutting the argument that wolves have folded because it wasn’t viable.
first day goes to the good guys

I think one of the local MPs was pushing the idea as a compromise situation at the very beginning before Brandon estates put in the planning application
