  1. Its a terrible trait often seen in speedway that promoters (some) come out and scorn the fans in general because not enough of them come to watch.

Exactly, I'm sure Phillips is just the most recent in a line who have displayed this, you have to be so careful in what you say and how you word things in businesses that rely on people through the door to survive and Speedway all too often has been lacking in this department, such things could easily have some who might be tempted to see what it's all about saying "stuff this, others attractions are more appreciative of my leisure spend"

  2.

    It's a load of crap.

News for people who peddle this crap. The people who don't go any more won't care if it's not there any more. You can heap as much blame on them as you like but they don't go any more and whose fault is that? Birmingham speedway doesn't have some God given right for people to turn up. Also, those who don't turn up are not fans. So having a go at the "fan" (the people who turn up) is not a good idea.

To be fair, a lot of negativity in statements, even to the point of calling fans Sewer Rats on Twitter meant a lot of people stopped going on principle, granted we might have ended up in this situation anyway, but Phillips made a bad situation even worse by putting his mouth ahead of his brain, many companies would sack their PR guy if some of the things that have come out of the Brummies management came out of their company.

If your going to bite the hand that feeds you, you can't complain when the dog dies of starvation, I'm certain a number would return for a new promoter with the cause of many grievances gone.

  3. If Birmingham Speedway was haemorrhaging money why did a Businessamn who is by trade an accountant, let it get this far ? Surely the sums didnt add up in April. If he has left a trail of debt then it wont do any favours to anyone who could run the Speedway in Birmingham to at least to a break even level. Can we assume that during Tony Moles reign in the Premier League that the business was not dropping money ?

Although Mole wanted to move on, he never gave any indication of impending doom and that things were that bad.

  4. Just following on from my previous point the site I’m talking about is the old Perry Barr container base. It closed years ago and it seems in 2007 British car auctions applied to develop the area as a car auction site, but seemingly nothing has happen to the site and still lays derelict. As the site was still operation when Birmingham were looking for a home in the past may be this site was never looked at as a possible home.

I really think for the best interest of Birmingham speedway they need a place with minimal over heads and good access to the track for practise. Nice restaurants and bars can come along later.

That would be a problem as current PP only allows for one meeting a week apart from exceptional circumstances.

  5. Don't get me wrong, what I mean is your likely to get more of the non hardcore fans to put money in if you can prove who the money is going to and what they are owed, after the winter of discontent, there's a lot of mistrust about the club which possibly contributed to this situation, in winter when the revolving door of departures was going on we had endless rumour and counter rumour, story and counter story, Phillips said this, Drury did that, Morris didn't like that person and the Commercial Manager was not friends with that guy etc, etc, to the extent we didn't know who to believe anymore, so generally took everyone statement from then on with a bit of suspicion.

Long story short, I think people need proof the money will go to something worthwhile and not into someone's pocket, if you could provide that, then I am hopeful a decent amount can be raised.

  6. Its a funny old World. Birmingham and Kings Lynn both took the leap together from Premier to Elite League. One appears to have made it stick the other struggles. I guess Lynn have the massive advantage of owning their own site. Its amazing how a tiny little backwater club Like Kings Lynn can make it pay, but the 2nd biggest City cant.

Wishing the Brummies all the luck in surving this.

Lynn aint had a big gap in running that a generation and a half have missed, so we're more comparable to Leicester than Lynn.

I think Speedway can prosper in Brum, but it'll take years before it's sustainable by anything like Lynn's level, we need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and making decisions that turn off what people we have as has been done far too much in recent years, we need a positive and welcoming to newcomers outlook for the club and not to complain and claim we're all doomed when that doesn't produce overnight results (how many people has this outlook from AP turned off I wonder).

No one under 35 has any recollection of speedway before now in Birmingham, getting them in and keeping them coming will take some time to achieve, it's doable, but an owner has to be realistic about that and have patience rather than all now now now, because it just won't work in this situation, AP was a bit naive in this respect about what was required in my opinion, I don't doubt he started out with good intentions, but the execution and ability to deliver it was somewhat lacking.

  7. In defence of Alan Phillips he has made speedway at Birmingham as cheap as any in the Elite League with offers,Groupon, Amazon deals. What exactly are the new revolutionary ideas you're expecting from a new promoter ? free entry maybe ?

Offers alone are only half a fix, some shocking PR statements, lack of advertising and not much sponsorship chasing as previous seasons have done as much damage as prices and quality of racing to turn people away.

To be blunt, I'm not sure the Phillips regime presented enough of a welcoming and positive front to supporters and sponsors, all too often biting the hand that feeds it followed by far too many negative statements, has felt like the club has been under a permanent cloud the last 18 months with no sign of it lifting, that whole atmosphere needs to change.

  8. Great this fast track system is...

    Eastbournes reserves 17 paid 21

Leicesters reserves 1 point between them.

What a farce, how possibly can this be fair.

What do you expect when you introduce NL kids to the Eastbourne triangle for the first time ?, their track baffles enough proper EL riders.

  9. TBF, it should have been against two heat leaders but R/R and an injured rider. Anyway, Hans wobbling around allowed the PL level Argie through!

I know heat 13 never usually looks like that, but really the rulebook needs a good rewrite if such a disparity of talent can still happen.

And yet the 'pl standard argie' beat the gp standard rider! :icon_smile_clown::rofl:

Right joke this sport is! Where's the competition!!!

Can't believe how poor he's looking TBF.
