  1. 9 hours ago, Wolfsbane said:

If he's short of a few bob he could flog his Carribean island. He's made a hell of a lot of money out of the labours of his employees over the years. Now they need him, he's gone missing. Shouldn't get a penny piece out of the taxpayer.

Branson only owns 49% of Virgin Atlantic. The rest is owned by Air France KLM and Delta Airlines

  2. People on here have mocked the idea of returning to 13 heat speedway -some even jokingly (I think they were) calling for one heat speedway or two laps even. They often call me for having no right of even offering an opinion, as I no longer attend. But the very same individuals imply perhaps they and others could not be attracted by two less heats than the 15 now. There love of speedway as fragile as mine was, then?

As for the Play-Offs... don't get me started. Oh, OK then. A complete pretense for several months of what are merely qualifying matches and fans kidded into paying good money to watch. The Finals bring out the crowds, but the qualifying matches that get us there suffer as any single match isn't too important, as losses can be made up later to make the top four cut. Usually it is the big lads who lag behind and then, like wrestling I used to watch on World of Sport, they get up off the ropes, make the cut.. and then, with several new additions, often lift the prize.

That is why the Play-Offs drag em in. Those fans are like I was. I wasn't there for the conception... but I was there to cheer my lad being born. I was so proud. A proper dad.

I still find it a bit odd how the formats of the world championships and the leagues turned on their heads.

World championship - one off final to a season long campaign of total points.

Leagues - season long campaign of total points to a one off final.

So which one wasn't working out?

  3. i did have to s n I g g e r at the conversation during the World Cup last weekend:

Nige: "...but here we are talking about the referee holding the tapes too long when really we should be talking about the riders."

Kelv: "Well let's do that then!"

It's not as funny written down...

  4. I would say it's a little too far to say that they were already high standard when they arrived here . someone like SCB would most likely be able to show the statistics that give an accurate picture of that , but taking the case of holder who i assume would be someone you would say was out of the box ready . yet he spent 3 seasons in premier league working his way up . had he remained in Australia riding in filler races in car meetings that is exactly where he would have been today . Doyle been racing in the UK for 11 years . up until 2 years ago ,he was a journeyman premier league heat leader and eltie second string . so not exactly out of the box ready . the fact that Aussies achieve a higher standard more quickly once they arrive here is born of necessity , when they want sunday dinner ,they have to go and earn it , when british riders cant afford sunday dinner they nip home to mum and dad . and for every chris holder , there are 10 journeymen Aussies who are at best mediocre ,

    Darcy Ward... ;)

  5. Host countries since 2001:

    Poland

    UK

    Denmark

    UK

    Poland

    Denmark

    Poland

    Denmark

    Poland

    Denmark

    Poland

    Sweden

    Czech Rep

    Poland

    Denmark

    UK

Looks to me like it's our turn since the last two were in Denmark and the UK. Seems like this is the pattern lately: Poland, xx, xx, Poland, xx, xx

Is it any wonder Poland have won so many golds? Although they have now won in Denmark and UK as well.

  6. Fair enough. But reading Phil Rising next post while I may have been wrong I did get the write answer, it was always planned.

They may or may not have had a suit made for him (it looked new to be fair) but I do know he didn't leave US until earliest Wednesday, possibly Thursday which would suggest to me it was a last minute decision to include him.

  7. Certainly proves they don't "do it for the fans" despite what some insist.

So late that both lads had kevlars made up? Yeah right!

If they were letting be youngsters have a chance why was Gino Manzares not used in place of Janniro? He's tweeted he was ready to ride and upset not to get the call.

Becker was already in the first round as reserve so had his suit made.

Broc has been wearing last year's WC suit (or the same design) all season in the states.

  8. Does anyone think a six man team with 2 riders per team in the heats would be better. It might lead to a bit of team riding and be a better watch. As we saw last night the rider in front just went flat out on a super tuned bike.It didn't seem like a team event. It could be that I am used to seeing 2 riders each for league matches etc but the racing we saw last night was the worst I've seen this season at the NSS and I'm not blaming the track either.

I've often thought the World Cup is an odd format with it being a team event and yet the riders ride as individuals.

I'd like to see riders paired together, more tactics come into play, especially if you have a 4,3,2,0 scoring system.

4 man teams and a reserve or 6 man teams could work.

  9. Tennis has larger rackets and made if better material, I reckon they should go back to small wooden rackets to stop the fast aces.

The upright rackets were so much safer than the laydown rackets and it was all about ball control instead of these flat out racket ships which are too fast for the size of the courts.

  10. Agree, can only see the Poles winning tonight, Fricke lucky not to be excluded he seemed to be freewheeling in to the corner.

Had he not had a rider virtually stop in front of him, he would have exited the corner no problem.

Laguta's lock up was very similar to Gundersen's at Bradford and on a similar track where locking up is not the norm.

Had the same incident happened at Arena Essex, I think there would have been a case to exclude Fricke.

  11.

my reply was to foamfence's post that the riders would retire or be lapped.

Excuse my ignorance but I have not seen or heard of the 2 replacements for tonight before

I don't know much about Becker other than he's highly rated and I've seen a video of him winning a scratch main recently. Nicol though has a lot of talent and is on a par with Janniro, if not better already.

They might not be up with the Doyles and Sayfutdinovs but they certainly won't be getting lapped.

  12. If it takes 60 seconds per race(4 laps) & they are replacing riders to learn & for experience, doing 3 laps in 60 seconds. To be lapped means they will do 4 laps in 80. Even some NL lads & the MDL lads are not that slow so they, really, should not be there.

Really? You think they'll be lapped? They'll all be on the pace.

All this aggro about Greg, I think there'll be more stories unfold in the coming days regarding Aggregate :D
