Of course the standard answer is to have any 7 riders who ride and turn up every week and somehow the crowds will come back ..what other sport thinks that getting the standard lower will makes things better and will save the sport .

There no easy answers but the mind set must be to raise the standard of rider and make teams stronger not weaker ..Each year the same plan is to lower the standard (cut costs ) quite clearly it's not working but the answer to this is to do the same again .

Everybody seems hooked on 7 man teams if it goes one league there simply isn't enough riders for 18/19 teams. You're looking at 5 man teams after 2 or 3 clubs drop out out. The last time it was one league Sheffield and Long Eaton were left without number 1's and when they came to town many folk saved their money and did something else. Like then there will be half a dozen teams that have the pick of the crop unless there is a low, low points limit to force riders to ride for the less well off clubs.

Personal attacks are not warranted in any aspect of life. That's a lesson I learnt from the man in my avatar.

Legally, Workington have the right to refuse entry to any individual or individuals they see fit.

I hope for Jenga's sake that he is allowed back in. Everybody deserves a 2nd chance in life.

And maybe not...who knows? Maybe having a member of the track staff "outed" as a possible paedophile, and his subsequent suicide, may have had an impact?

Maybe, like Stoke, they can't source any shale for the track? (oh, the Irony for Drye House lol)

The lack of official communication can lead to all kinds of speculation. About time a proper communique was issued about what the truth of the matter really is.

Whether you're right or wrong with this Martin your cynicism has dragged you to the bottom of the gutter with this one and the ensuing hate posts and naming are testimony to that. Don't be surprised if justice can't be delivered or the case is prejudiced by threats and public outcry, if you are now outing for a living then look a bit closer to Perry Barr and face the wrath of his Solicitors! Yes you know who I mean.

Mods, by all means suspend me for 28 days for attacking the poster but do take him off forever

  4. I don't want to diss other opinions but those of you who can do the simple maths work out how many riders are realistically going to be available, the number of teams likely to be in one league and divide one into the other and that will tell you how many riders can be in a TEAM. Unless you are going to run 5 heat leaders then the points limit will be nearer 30, you are possibly making  the assumption that 7 man teams are to stay, if they are then a lot of clubs will have to close. Even if you sweep all the riders from 3 leagues into one what will you be watching? If you do that the top riders will have a field day consuming more money per point and in effect the average cost per point could increase so that knackers the reduced admission ideas.

Whatever the real solution is too many clubs are in too deep to take a gamble on any suggestions that are not within their scope of opportunity. I like the ideas of weekend racing alternate weeks, let those that wish f.. off to Poland and rebuild the sport around weekend CLUB racing, simplify the rules and work with what we've got not what we want.

The reality of one league is fewer teams and fewer riders in each team, oh and a much lower points limit/standard.

  5. Extract from Chunk'y post;

"Now, the fans...  Yes, the fans believe they know everything, but it is incredible how many THINK that they have a solution, yet don't even consider the practicality and viability of their ideas.  In many cases, they don't look at the big picture, just what suits THEM, or THEIR TEAM.  Sometimes - a lot of the time, actually - a seemingly nonsensical idea is dismissed when the reality is that discussion of the basic idea can actually be fruitful"

This para identifies where many Promoters come from, the terraces.  They jump into shark infested waters and get hacked to pieces, when it comes to logic and voting at the BSPA self interest rules regardless of the price some clubs may pay. Win at all costs has never been more prevalent and has ruined opportunities to put together a survival strategy for the sport so anyone who is fresh into Promoting Speedway with half an idea gets buried before they open their mouth. Just ask JC, not everyone's cup of tea but some great ideas totally rejected because of who he was not because they were unworkable and he wasn't the only one tossed aside by the members.

Don’t underestimate the damage fixed race nights have done to British Speedway.  BMR are far from blameless and their naive attitude in ignoring the fans view hasn’t helped at all. They clearly learned nothing from Len Silver in their first season. As soon as the fixed race nights were announced BMR should have threatened to leave the league. Of course Swindon, Kings Lynn and Poole sit pretty with their race nights retained and tough luck for everyone else. I hope it’s not the end of Speedway at Rye but looking at the state of the stadium compared to the shiny KTM dealership building I take no pleasure in saying that BMR have never had a clue what they were doing.

Errr they did threaten to leave the league

So just what is the problem with the fixtures you've got, as I haven't seen anything publicised anywhere else apart from this forum. All I know is Workington applied to change there raceday from Saturday to Friday's and it was declined because Glasgow and Scunthorpe already had it agreed to switch to Friday's at the AGM of the BSPA and it was not attended by your promoter for whatever reason.

That's odd? only the 2 clubs that were represented on the Management Committee allowed to change race nights? Have you got that right? Don't Peterborough and Lakeside race on Fridays too? So let me get this right Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lakeside, Peterborough, Scunthorpe and Workington have Friday fixtures with riders competing in qualifying rounds all over as well. I make that 6 home meetings so there is not enough riders for 12 teams to be in action with guests and R/R?

Oh! there are only 11 teams in the league that means at least 1 possibly 2 or 3 can't run on a Friday otherwise there won't be enough riders for the rest (or teams for that matter). "Let's tell those who do not have or gave up their Friday priority they can't run that'll solve it".

Never mind Marras you can fill your blank Saturdays instead, start with re-arranging your postponed fixtures; Scunthorpe and Sheffield. Oh! they've already declined your offer of dates then why not go to the Management Committee and get them to force those clubs to come on a Saturday? Oh! those clubs are on the Management Committee, isn't that where this started?

Why don't Workington race some meetings on a Friday then?

'Twas on the Monday morning the Gas man came to call

Coventry v Buxton tomorrow is off due to an electrical problem. National League 4's cancelled due to "a combination of circumstances". Leicester v Wolves (apparently) put back to 2 July.

Is something going on?? (apart from the footy)

Electrical problem? Surely not this one already,  Electronic funds transfer (EFT) is the electronic transfer of money from one bank account to another

  9. Subscribing to the international fixture priority list was done to protect British clubs, it's not that long ago that riders were going awol on a Thursday to race in Poland on a Sunday citing their Polish contracts that they signed first as the priority. Riders were being called to "official" practice sessions, Sponsors launches and parties, club PR events and Civic receptions over British Speedway, the International Speedway league gave priority on set days which allowed other countries to retain their riders without breaching their Polish contracts.

It was never intended to be the absolute solution and couldn't be because the countries who get their fixtures logged first take priority on non priority days and we are nearly always last to submit. I hope that makes sense but as an example if both a Polish Club and a British club logged a fixture on a Tuesday (Sweden's priority) and a rider was faced with a fixture clash between the two countries then the first logged fixture would take priority.

Factor in the extended National and International priority then rain offs in every country and you will see it's a nightmare for every league so it's hardly surprising there are disagreements from time to time.

As for the comments about who should allow what, the free movement of European workers gives riders the right to earn their living within the EU whether self employed or not which is another reason why the Federations had to try and work together.

There's a few kicking around but not shed loads.

The BSPA had an agreed number of units with Gerhard but they were to be built to order.

As I understand, the BSPA had to make up the difference between the Gerhard RRP and the price the BSPA were selling them for if the agreed numbers where not sold. All in all, it's not that much of a loss to the BSPA. Pretty much a win win for them

Respectfully, I should check your sources again

i was reading yesterday some posts from graham hurry saying that paul used a GTR last season, did 22 meetings without any service work and he actually made a bit of money although I doubt he was on a crap deal but the point is the engine, there will be riders who are lesser standard or equal that spent £££££ with englebert fancypants engine tuning and lost a fortune and cant make it pay and will tell you a million reasons why they wont use a GTR, there is a lesson there somewhere for not just riders but speedway as a whole but don't expect it to be learnt

You're absolutely right imho, had Marcel persevered independently it would and may still develop as a positive option. The BSPA presented this as the utopian solution which was met with the usual mistrust and contempt from so many, including me. I can't diss the initiative but the implementation was premature and poor yet in reality it could still be the eventual solution. My beef is that engines are the rider's responsibility not the BSPA when they can't even get right the things they are good at!

I imagine Sheffield would like a few hundred (?) extra  Aces supporters cheering CC on to pay at the gate on Thursday?

It still is what pays the bills.

Correct, he is more likely to pull from BV at Sheffield rather than Leicester despite both clubs being owned by the same promotion. They must have somebody on the Management Committee looking out for them.

    What a cop-out

Ever heard the term "ex-gratia"? Ever heard of treating exceptional circumstances on their individual merits?

Buxton seem to be sour about this afternoon because there was probably a huge financial loss made. No wonder another few quid in the post is such an unpalletable prospect.

The irony of it, when it comes to be sour ......

  14. Surely the magnitude of international support gives the various factions within the Bees fan base comfort and an opportunity to bury their differences, at least publicly and anywhere (like here) that the negatives can be exploited and utilised against Coventry Speedway. Great opportunity to keep it private guys don't eff it up !

The Stadium, as is planned, may be o.k. for the needs of greyhoud racing, but is not suited very well for speedway spectators. The viewing will be poor, not enough seats available, and there is going to be problems with not enough car parking. All this will spoil the enjoyment for many to attend a speedway meeting at Swindon. People will slowly but surely dift away, until attendance figures will fall too low for the speedway promoters to keep it going, and the Robins will be history.

Well this is just brilliant news, the splithole at Blunsdon that people have been complaining about for yonks is going to fail because it will be a modern facility with clean toilets, better lighting and comfortable surroundings - best we rebuild all the derelict stadiums from yesteryear and the sport will thrive !

The Speedway has been propped up for years, this is an opportunity to increase attendance and consequently reduce the risk of closure surely?

  16. I haven't read the article but my guess is Robert has been too open and somewhat naive with the writer, it wasn't Paul Burbidge by any chance was it? Paul is very good at taking off the record remarks and turning them into print and whilst the interviewee has an expectation of what will appear it's what is on the voice recorder that evidences the published piece. Paul has succeeded in bringing a different dimension to the GP's though, he is extremely capable and should not be underestimated.

Was it? I'm on Twitter and Facebook, and I didn't see anything about it, and I follow the SGB Twitter account. I get to see what happens in Glasgow but wasn't aware of what was happening just up the road from me. So what does that say about how effective the publicity machine is working? And If I didn't see it, what chance the news permiating to a potential new audience who hardly know what speedway is let alone knowing to look at the Coventry web site?

I'd have a word with your service providers - let some of your bitterness head their way for a change !
