  1. Hmmm... what would be good would be to have each venue put forward their 'bid' or reasons for holding the event, noone should be gifted the GP just because it's been here or there for X amount of years. For me though Cardiff is a special occasion - I'd hate for it to disappear, the city is great, everything is in walking distance and the roof is a lucky bonus as we know we'll definitely have a GP to watch!

    Sgp Presentation

Hmmm you could well be right there now I think about it, still think it could be tweaked mind - just a touch.
  3. You're so touchy Bryn I was giving it some welly mate - god save the queen that is
  4. For those that have been a few times and finding it a bit samey - my tip is thus... Don't sit in the same seats twice - there that's it - that simple. Yesterday was our 3rd year and while I could say the racing was a bit better last year - the atmosphere yesterday was unreal - even better than the first time we went (when I didn't know what to expect!) honestly when the riders came out on parade and the horns went off the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, the adrenaline was pumping - man I though I might actually cry! IMO moving around the stadium keeps it fresh and gives you a new experience - seeing speedway from a new perspective each time in a cracking atmosphere

    Sgp Presentation

Sticking up for you here, I didn't want to fill out the programme, I go to watch the racing. BUT the stadium announcer was calling the rider names in strange orders - also you'd have such and such on the track and he'd be calling a different rider just coming through the gate, don't get me wrong it wasn't a massive issue but I felt affected the flow of presentation, would it be possible to let riders through the entry gate in 1,2,3,4 order and then call them? Not always possible I know but it might at least help the poor souls who are frantically scribbling in their programmes! On the whole though I thought presentation was much better than previous years and even a mid meeting sing song I just about had enough voice left for the star spangled banner!!!! (Not). Well Done Greg - pure class.

    Copenhagon 2011

Totally agree with this, I've always thought the booing and cheering when he goes down to be too much but after tonights episode(s) I can see why he gets so much stick. YOU Mr P will be getting both barrels from me when you ride out onto the track in two weeks time cos that was totally uncalled for tonight.

    Elite League Pairs

My first taste of pairs racing and my only question - WHY isn't it raced every week?! Brilliant meeting, some fantastic passing and generally really close heats - much better than the usual Monday night drivel. You could have a mini pairs series, every other week when GPs aren't running - Sats of course! (It'll never happen). Still - very much enjoyed tonight and am right in the mood for first GP of the season on Sat now - COME ON BOMBER
  8. I was really looking forward to going as we are in Dorset that week on hols BUT if there's no 'normal rate' for the Poole match then I'm not paying £100 (Me, Missus + 3 sproggs) for ONE Speedway meeting! ARE THEY MAD?! No one's going to pay that kind of money I hope there is some common sense on pricing before tapes go up.
  9. I saw Robert Lambert at Weymouth (last year I think), there was only two of them racing and he stood out as something special (even compared to his older counterparts in the regular meeting). I think it was the way he controlled the bike in and out of the bends (yet not losing speed but gaining it) that caught my eye. Hopefully he'll progress to a full time position within the sport - I'd hate to imagine all that talent going to waste.

    U15/youth Website?

Hi, Just wondered if there was an update on the website status as we are 2011 now ?
  11. Hi guys, I was wondering if there is a website around so I can learn more about what is happening at youth level - most of the news sites around concentrate on the top levels of the sport but I'd really like to see more of what's happening at the youth levels. Many thanks Alan

    Weymouth For Sale

Sad day for Weymouth Speedway, I've been a few times when down that way with the kids and always enjoyed myself. Hopefully someone will take the Club on and Speedway can be resurrected. Interesting comments from Phil Bartlett about the current format of british speedway I thought... Chin up guys, hopefully you can get a team back on track soon. OB

    London Riders Championship

I only saw the last two heats of the USA touring team and it seemed 'ok' - I was really looking to forward to the LRC but what a wasted effort. I rushed home from work, stuffed the wife and kids in the car (they were actually excited about going to speedway!) rushed around the M25 to Lakeside and for what? 6 heats of nothing. So I'm £50 (bit of petrol included there) out of pocket and haven't seen anything I could term 'racing'. LRC is a good idea but NOT as an end of season bash and certainly not presented like that - it was amateurish and feeble. Very disappointed, my first visit to Lakeside and I don't think I'll bother again. Either get the Dons into Plough Lane or count me out of regular speedway, too much effort for too little in return imo - I know the wife and kids don't want to bother again...

    What A Joke

I demand more Polish migrants - MORE! They're buying my Polski designs in their droves To be fair I noted the Torun logo and wondered why but it didn't bother me - someone else has already explained it somewhere else on here so fair enough. I was in the north lower and there was a pocket of about 10 Poles in front of me who went mental everytime a Pole came on track - let alone if they got to the turn first! It was great, they kind of balanced out the Pro Brit cheering which gave the whole thing a kind of home and away fans thing going on - made for a fantastic atmosphere - so roll on 2011 and a few more of every fan please to lift the roof off!

    Cardiff 2011

Check through booking.com and rooms are available. Took a punt on 25th and got a room at Premier Inn - chap on the phone says it could well be that weekend as 'Management' have it marked at the higher rate prices. Seems a bit early to be panicking about hotel rooms for 2011 - never the less I'm a bit eager to avoid a repeat of what happened this weekend where we rolled into our hotel and were told they had no receipt of our booking from hotels.com! Hope this helps someone - Now for the tickets!
  17. Do they ramp up the costs like they do in Cardiff for GP weekend?
  18. Please reveal your secret Triple H as from what I can see there are no rooms below mortgage level prices left!
  19. This has been bouncing around in my head for ages so I apologize if it's a bit random. But here is my take on how speedway can solve it's problems - the basic idea came from how cricket has evolved the twenty20 competition... General The idea of 3 teirs of speedway needs to be binned - all clubs should be treated as equal regardless of size/so called quality of track. There should be a central key sponsorship pool who will advertise across every team in the country, this money will be evenly distributed to each team. The teams and riders of course have the chance to create extra revenue from alternative sponsorship and gates although the key sponsors will be king. The idea of creating pools of localised (relatively) team competition should help to reduce travelling costs for riders and fans. Less is more and each "round" should be built up - create a buzz around each race night - the local rivalries should also help with this. Riders - assetts v privateers Each rider should be encouraged to become a club assett (they will not be allowed to double up or inter-league/ride in europe but have the stability of knowing where they will be based) Riders wishing to race in europe and double up will enter a draw. To be held before the season. Based around averages and scaled thus: Pool 1: Riders with average of 7-8 Pool2: Riders with average of 6-7 and so on... This should create a fairer distribution of riders while still allowing some riders personal stability. League structure Uses existing scoring system 22 race weeks possible between April and end Aug 1 home x 1 away meet 1 fixed race night + Monday for Sky --------------------------------------------------- March = Pre-season challenge matches. --------------------------------------------------- April - Aug = Main body of Season. Also includes cup competition. Regional race pools designed to cut costs and create a more localised speedway scene Pool 1 Glasgow, Edinburgh, Berwick, Newcastle, Redcar, Workington Pool 2 Belle Vue, Sheffield, Stoke, Buxton, Scunthorpe, Wolves Pool 3 Brummies, Coventry, Peterboro, Leicester, King Lynn, Mildenhall Pool 4 Newport, Somerset, Swindon, Plymouth, Weymouth, Poole Pool 5 Eastbourne, Rye House, Lakeside, Sittingborne, Ipswich, IoW Winner of pools go through to 6 team playoff (winner of cup competition making up 6th team) The Playoffs - Held in September Two pools of 3 - each team races two meets Grand Final Two winners race off for Title on neutral track. Indoor venue? NEC? Feel free to rip it apart
  20. I'll do that Biglad - cheers dude. See Nevs...
  21. Well you might be cracking me up Nevsy but I ain't laughing now - just been doing a bit of googling and Cardiff is rammed - unless you want to pay upward of £200 We're a year away from the event and already no chance of staying over! Anyone got any ideas?
  22. Nevs you crack me up Hope you managed to get this sorted in the end.
  23. I agree with Snyper actually I live in London but what lovely time me and the family had in cardiff - I want to get OUT of London not get stuck in it! If Wembley could put on a show and match the Cardiff atmosphere then fair enough give it a go but NOT instead of Cardiff - rather alongside - does that make me greedy?

    Cardiff 2009

Can't believe 22 pages later you're all still going on about this! The fight was hand bags that's all - you see it every week in football - it was pure theatre and added an extra bit of spice to some already great match-ups. Personally I thought it was hilarious - 2 grown men in helmets and pads trying to have a go at each - the only thing they didn't do was go chest to chest and push Come on you've got more chance of being hurt crossing the street than those had of seriously damaging each other! It was a fantastic day out and the ruck just added something different for everyone to talk about after...
