    Kenny Carter Book

YOU COULD COUNT ON THE FINGERS OF ONE HAND THE TIMES CARTER CAME FROM THE BACK, AND MOST OF THEM HE JUST RODE STRAIGHT THROUGH WHOEVER WAS IN FRONT OF HIM ! NO BRAIN AT ALL.

I was not saying that those riders were better than Carter, just that they would come to Belle Vue and regularly beat Collins, Sjosten, Willkinson and Morton. Phil Crump and Martin Ashby would've eaten Carter for breakfast in their prime! Did you ever see either from 74-78? they were both outstanding and could pass people inside or outside anytime any race any opposition any track!

    Kenny Carter Book

Peter Collins was never going to win many British Finals at the "gaters paradice" that was brandon in the 1970's. but don't forget that Collins won the likes of, European finals, intercontinental finals, tons of open meetings, was world champion in '76 runner up in '77(IMO a greater achievement than winning it) won the world masters series in '78 and held on to the golden helmet for almost two years! and was far more exciting to watch than Kenny Carter was. And on the subject of someone coming to Belle Vue and beating Morton, Collins etc, Then there are lots of riders who came and did just that, Phil Crump on a number of occasions, Martin Ashby, Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, John Louis. I'm sure as a regular at Hyde Road in the seventy's and eighty's, if my memory serves me right most Belle Vue patron's feared Olsen far more than anyone and Carter would be further down the list. Carters liking for the Hyde Road track stemmed from his association with the great Ivan Mauger. From the off season in 1980 until their parting of the ways at the end of 1982 Carter spent almost the entire closed season practicing around belle vue and a lot of the time during the season aswell testing motors. He probably rode more laps around belle vue than anyone else! But putting all the greats ive seen around belle vue at there peak Kenny Carter would possibly only just get in my top twenty.

When you list his achievements next to those of say, Ivan Mauger, Ove Fundin, Bjorn Knutsson, Ole Olsen, Bruce Penhall, Peter Collins, Erik Gundersen, Hans Nielsen. Or most recently Nicki Pedersen, Jason Crump or Tony Ricardsson, then Kenny Carter is lucky to receive "second rate rider" status! IMO the only rider never to be world champion that should and could of been was Tommy Jansson. Now he was a joy to watch and as safe as houses on the track unlike Kenny Carter.

    Where Was Nicholls

Maybe Chris Louis had been asked not to mention Scott Nicholls when interviewing Rob Lyon, or he just chose to focus is questions on the riders who had been picked to represent their country. Who knows?

    Charlie Webster

I think she's ok and works well with Chris Louis who i think is head and shoulders above the standard of Kelvin Tatum & Nigel Pearson, Taking nothing away from the later two who i feel do a reasonable job.

Scottish? Me? How very dare you! Yes your quite right Peter would of been 20 in 1974 and not 18 as i stated previously. Please except my utmost apology. I will now put on my dunce's hat and stand in the corner for the rest of the lesson!

My mistake, Peter Collins was actually 19 years old (born 24 march 1964). So i will split the difference with you

As i said, "it was a lack of maturity even for someone of his age" So no it's not easy to forget how young these lads are. But i don't remember Peter Collins, Chris Pusey, Hans Nielsen, Erik Gundersen or even Kenny Carter acting like a 10 year old brat and showboating and believe me they all had talent and some at his age. Peter Collins was scoring 12 point maximums in foreign countrys in world team cup finals at 18! So spare me the excuses.

No he was celebrating Matej Zagar's exclusion from heat 13, which robbed the paying public from seeing a potentially better race. This shows a complete lack of maturity from someone of even his age. as i said before far too cocky without the talent to back it up.

    Tai Or Kenett

Take both Nicholls and Richardson to Leszno on Thursday as both have more experience in both riding the big wide Polish tracks and the do or die situation we again find ourselves in. Tai and Edward to miss out.

    Dennissigalos

Great rider Dennis I remember him when he first signed for Hull. Never looked out of place in anybody's company on the track. Guested for Belle Vue three or four times in 1980 and top scored every time. Glad to hear he is doing well.

    Tommy Jansson 33 Years Today

One of the best riders never to be world champion IMHO, if not THE best. He was so smooth on the track it often looked like he was gilding round. RIP Tommy.

Fantastic meeting last night, excellent track that helped to create great racing from start to finish with the best team winning who now should win the whole tournament. Of our own boys, i think they gave it their best shot and you can't ask for any more than that. We all know they are not up to the required standards of Australia, Poland and the scandinavians or at least some of us do, I was stood on the back straight with some Rye House fans who were telling me how good Tai Woffinden was, and how he definitely was a future world champion. When i told them that i think this is as good as he will get and why i thought that, they said i should keep my thoughts to my self as i would end up with egg on my face. But for what its worth, here is my assessment of our boys. ED KENNETT; Lacks a bit of confidence and seams more concerned with what everybody else is doing on the track, lacks a bit of trackcraft. LEWIS BRIDGER; works hard and gives everything he has. Needs to calm down a bit in tricky situations and again lacks in track craft. CHRIS HARRIS; Our only rider who can constantly mix it with the worlds best on any track but was not on top form last night. TAI WOFFINDEN; Too cocky without the talent to back it up, not nearly good enough in this company. at best good second string in EL or 3rd heat leader. DANIEL KING; Our best rider on the night but in Leszno may find things tougher. maybe one for the future. I know this assessment may sound harsh but it is only my opinion and as i said they all give everything they had and let nobody down.

    An Apology

Well i was not offended by any of your remarks on Saturday night. Just because you disagree with someone else's opinion does not mean they will be offended. And just because you threw a few "**" in here and there only made the debate more enjoyable, lets not get too PC on here!

    World Cup - Event 1

The riders representing Australia in the world pairs final were Billy Sanders and Gary Guglielmi. Remember him? got a 12 month ban from the Australian authorities in '84 on a drugs charge.

    World Cup - Event 1

We will just have to agree to disagree on this one. IMO the russian rider held his line and Pedersen made the wrong decision in the split second it takes to make that decision. You think that the russian moved out off his line and gave Nicki Pedersen no alternative but to hit the back of him. I can accept this opinion, but do not necessarily agree with it.

So the throttle does only go one way! Please except my apologies

    World Cup - Event 1

No it does not matter one jot who is behind, the rider chasing must pass the rider in front cleanly either on the inside or round the boards. Riders can as you call it "shut the door" but not put another rider through the fence by deviating off his chosen racing line. IMO the russian rider did not move off his line and Nicki Pedersen went for a gap that was not there, as is the Danish tradition first started by Ole Olsen and carried on remarkably well by Hans Nielsen and now Nicki Pedersen.

    World Cup - Event 1

I sincerely hope you are joking!!! Nicki Pedersen is behind the Russian rider going for a gap that is closing rapidly, the sensible thing to do would of been to turn the throttle forward to reduce the speed and cut inside. Or if you are serious in your comments then you are as thick as Nicki Pedersen in thinking that the throttle only goes one way. After almost forty years of watching speedway their now seems to be a lot of fans who don't know anything about a speedway bike or a riders positioning on the track. Nicki Pedersen cost his nation a fair crack at a direct place in the world cup final. END OF RANT!!!

    European Gp 2009

Being a big follower of rugby league as well as speedway, i too was at both this years millennium magic and last year. The main gripe that the RFL have is with Cardiff City Council in that they take the money but did not keep there side of the bargain by not promoting the event. Some locals did not have a clue what was happening over the weekend. Last weekend was the same in that none of the locals we spoke to knew that the speedway GP was on, some of them did not know what speedway was Speedway needs to find somewhere where it can be better marketed both by itself and the local council !
