T H Jonasson started off flying in Ostrow few shocks already.
Do you mean 'few shocks already' (everything is going as expected), or 'a few shocks already' (the unexpected is happening)?
Not being picky :-)

Schoolboy error from Hampel by choseing blue in the final ...by the semi final it was the best gate and in fact Hampel had just won of it .
Error in NOT choosing blue but choosing red instead.....

A sad loss for Ray, the family, and Mildenhall speedway.

Hm... maybe it is not. I thought that I saw somewhere such, but now I can see that it is impossible.I asked the question of Graham Reeve (SCB) at Mildenhall and he told me that a formula where each rider rode against all others meant two on the trot in every heat - not ideal and certainly wouldn't have been

Please could someone with the required knowledge give me a recent history of the Panthers and the Horton brothers? When each was involved, their positions at the club, the resulting effects and any other associated information.
I am only interested in established facts, not necessarily (but I suppose inevitably some) opinions, and suggest a timeline format would be best.
Nothing sinister I assure you...........just a genuine speedway fan gathering info.
Both Mick and Colin were owner/promoter of the Club (but not together), and I was co-promoter with each of them for part of their tenure.

That made me feel physically sick.

Can someone explain to me the change of name for the ELRC to Elite League riders championship?Looking at the news on the Bees website there are 7 spots available for any rider outside the elite league, if i have interpreted that correctly i do not understand how you can call it what it is.
Wolfy!!!
Now the Elite Riders Championship - which could sum it up quite nicely!

I take it these are the non-wildcards announced on the official Speedway Grand Prix site under the title: '2010 SGP wildcards announced', in a story that goes on to say: 'The FIM Speedway Grand Prix commission and BSI Speedway, rights holders of the FIM Speedway World Championships, has today announced the full rider line up for the 2010 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series (SGP), including the four riders that have been awarded a permanent wild card place.' Those non-wildcards?Edit: Actually, apologies Neil. Having jumped from page one to page four to post and now gone back, I can see you have dealt with the whole wildcard/permanent wildcard/seeded/nominated etc etc issue!
I think there are at least two threads here too (been merged by mods) just to make it more confusing!!

2010 SGP Wild Cards AnnouncedThats what the Speedway World story states
Fair point and apologies - I hadn't spotted that. Interesting that BSI don't use the FIM's official definitions, which state:
Qualified Rider: A rider who qualifies for the Speedway Grand Prix series eitherby virtue of his position in the Final Grand Prix Classification of the previous yearor by finishing in the top three of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix qualificationsystem.Nominated Rider: A rider who is selected by the SGP Commission to participatein the Speedway Grand Prix series.Qualified Substitute Rider: A rider appearing on the list of Qualified Substitutesapproved and published by the SGP Commission.Wild Card Rider: A rider selected by the SGP Commission to participate in anindividual round of the SGP series.Track Reserve Rider: A rider nominated by his FMN and approved by the SGPCommission to take part as a meeting reserve rider during an individual round ofthe SGP series.
Apparently FIM don't use the phrase seeded rider either!

British youngster Tai Woffinden will make his debut in next year's Grand Prix Series after being confirmed as one of the four wild cards. The Wolverhampton rider will join fellow countryman Chris Harris in the line-up while, as expected, Denmark's Hans Andersen and Freddie Lindgren of Sweden were also handed wild cards.
The four will join the top eight riders from this year's series plus the three qualifiers from the GP Challenge.
All of the above 4 riders have got there on merit well done to all of them. Nice to see 2 Wolves riders in the Grand Prix's.
Up the WOLVES
We don't need another thread and they're NOT WILD CARDS!

It certainly took a lot of effort to get this meeting on, and Blayne deserves a great deal of credit, especially in the last week as riders dropped out and others had to be found1. Terry Day - 2, 1, 2, 1, 2 = 8
2. Olly Rayson - 0, 2, 1, 2, 2 = 7
3. Barrie Evans - 1, 2, 3, 2, 3 = 11
4. Taylor Poole - 3, F, 3, 3, 3 = 12
5. Simon Lambert - 3, 3, 2, 3, 2 = 13
6. Nick Laurence - 0, 0, 1, 0, 0 = 1
7. Lee Strudwick - 1, 1, EF, 0, EF = 2
8. James Sarjeant - 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 = 6
9. Luke Priest - 3, 0, 0, 2, 3 = 8
10. Jari Makinen - = INJURED
11. Scott Campos - X, = INJURED
12. Darren Mallett - 2, 3, 3, 3, 2 = 13
13. Matt Wright - 0, 2, 2, 3, 1 = 8
14. James Cockle - 3, 3, 2, 2, 1 = 11
15. Dan Halsey - 2, 3, 0, 1, 3 = 9
16. Arlo Bugeja - 1, 2, 3, 1, 1 = 8
I think the scorecard underlines the even nature of the field, and the luck of the draw took the meeting to a Heat 20 decider before the run-off.
A very enjoyable afternoon and credit to all at Mildenhall.
-
Kings Lynn's Adam Allott and Darren Mallett have confirmed that they will be riding in the meeting.Cheers
Steve
That's a tasty line-up, looking forward to this already!

Is the Proprietor of Renaissance Property Management who are sponsoring the extra meeting a member of the Barmy Army?Absolutely not! As a former Club Chairman at Mildenhall in Mick Horton's time I retain a fondness for the Club and I am always keen to support 3rd tier racing as the way forward for our sport in this country. By the way I am Managing Director not proprietor of Renaissance Property Management Ltd

Well last night again proved there's not a single Brit who can mix it with the big boys. last night Zorro won it. hardly a top rider but he showed all the true grit that is lacking in british riders to pull off a shock win and qualify on merit for the 2010 GP series. No point in saying he isn't good enough/too old/brings nothing/a joke/don't like him etc etc etc because he qualified through all the rounds and then went and won the meeting last night. If ever a rider deserves it for true grit and determination it's Zorro.
So whee does this leave the british camp? The backside of nowhere to be honest. harris and nicholls have proved themselves to be completely out of their depth at this level. harris had the hug advantage of riding on his home track last nght but never got close to the podium. Does he deserve another chance? No way. One fluke Cardiff win and that is it. never got close other than that.
Niholls has had a torrid time this year and needs to be removed from the series.
Time to bring in some fresh blood. My ersonal choice would be Woffinden or Kennett. Both are young and improving. They will do as well as Harris and Nicholls and will learn with a years experience in the series. No they won't win a round but they can hardly do any worse than the current two.
Richardson had his chance and is no good at this level, Bridger needs another year before being considered. Plenty of time for him to improve.
Thoughts?
Steve are you thinking of the Wild Card place at Cardiff or as a nominated rider pick for the whole series?
-
Sorry if this was started anytime ago, but cant see anything on the 2009 ELRC.Any news on this, have I missed it somewhere?
Any help would be appreciated.
Friday 2nd October at Coventry

You're probably right there SteveEvans, but he should'nt as he does not deserve it.Apart from one flash of brilliance at Cardiff, he has been pretty mediocre throughout his GP 'career'.
Do we HAVE to have a British rider as a wild card at Cardiff?
If there wasn't one, would the place be empty?, I doubt it because at the end of the day speedway supporters want to see, theoretically, the best riders riding in one place at one time.
Formula 1 motor racing does not, I believe, use wild cards at their various venues, and I don't believe it detracts from attendances, it is only speedways' administrators who seem to be of the opinion that supporters are so blinkered that they will not attend an event if one of their countrymen is not riding.
If they do go for a British wildcard, then go down the same route that Lyons has in the WTC, go for the future and choose a youngster.
To avoid confusion in this topic, the full-time riders chosen to appear in the series are "nominated riders", the riders chosen to take the 16 race-jacket in individual GPs are "Wild Card riders".

An entertaining meeting in the end after a difficult start - an incident on parade led to a significant delay to the meeting then in Heat 1, Jack Jones slid off, Steven Archer slid into him while laying down and Tyler Govier slammed into the fence taking avoiding action. After another long delay Jones & Govier withdrew there and then, Archer completed a lap or so of his second ride then also withdrew.
The parade incident involved Adam Portwood's mother and his 500cc machine leading to Adam competing in the 250 class only.
All four injured parties suffered no major injuries.

He rode for Scunthorpe in 1984, Star Ghost. Before that he was a Peterborough rider from around 1978, I think he actually came from Peterborough. He joined Eastbourne when they dropped down to the NL in 1985 after appearing for them in the BL a few times. Pretty sure he had a bit of a falling out with the Eagles promotion at one time, refusing to ride in a meetingHe certainly did, his father Geoff was a Clerk of the Course at Peterborough and ran a motor engineering company in Eye Green just outside the town.
Andy rode for the Panthers from 1978 - 1983 - an odd meeting in the first couple of years then four full seasons as a steady second-string.

I understand that the Under-15 round will start at 3pm on Saturday 22nd August followed by Kings Lynn "Art and Stitch" Barracudas v Bournemouth Buccaneers.
Full details to follow

Hmmm...yeah, you might be right.Seems that they gave it to Holta on having 2 firsts....Thought that it was head to head if it was just 2 riders on the same points, but maybe that aint the case.
FIM Regulations 077.9.2: Ties
After the completion of Heat 20, 21 or 22
When establishing the order between the riders in the list of Intermediate
Classification at the conclusion of Heat 20, or following the completion of the
Semi-Final Heats 21 and 22, any ties will be solved as follows:
a) Precedence will be given to the riders (tied on race points) having the most
number of 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th placings (a '0' for last placing is better than
being disqualified for whatever reason).
B ) If the tie still persists and involves only 2 riders, precedence will be given to
the better placed rider in the heat or heats where the 2 riders met.
c) If the tie still persists and involves more than 2 riders, it shall be checked
whether there is a possibility to determine a proper precedence (e.g.
3 riders tied on points: A, B, C:
rider A has beaten rider B
rider A has beaten rider C
rider B has beaten rider C
Then the precedence will be: best position for rider A, then rider B and then
rider C.
24
d) If solutions a), B ) and c) cannot resolve the tie, then the lowest riding
number jacket will be deemed the better placed rider.

Double revenge in this one for RH...: with the Pockets winning and with the coffee vendor wiping out your prog., Phil!!!
Brendon Freemantle fell in his second demo ride - so no time for that one... Not sure if Craig gave a time for his earlier impressive looking completed four laps...: if he did I didn't catch it...
In heat 2 should that read Morris f/x rather than Bovis?
