Welcome to the forum Jenny. Really famous name there and I'm sure there might be some on here who will admit to seeing him ride, but unfortunately I don't think I have, although I do go back to 1949 so who knows. Norbold will be really interested in this and give you some information I'm sure as soon as he spots this topic. By the way...you will have to get used to the weird sense of humour of some members.

Definitely getting more interesting now as you have reached my era. I started going to Speedway in 1949 when I was eight so unfortunately recognise all the names now. Hope you will be able to carry on.

I don't know whether you are making this worse or better Sir L! You've certainly given me a laugh though imagining the track staff marching out to some of these tunes. They used to have a job keeping in step as it was so it would have been amusing seeing their efforts to keep in time with some of these! Anyway, I will probably come back to them again tonight and play a few more because there's damn all on the tele. Incidentally I didn't know Wolverine had his very own signature tune named after him. (aka Wolfcrazy on here.)

I think that's the one they always used at Coventry. I reckon it's Liontamer's one - altogether now...... Rrum Dum Dum Dum Duu D D Dum, Rrum dum dum dum Duu D D Dum, D D Dum Dum Dum Dum......

Oh. Well, perhaps England have a chance of getting through to the next round afterall. ;-) Why no Greg Hancock? I know Billy Hamill didn't want to be included but I didn't know about Greg as well.

I telephoned Maurice Jones this morning (yes, I'm desperate!) but unfortunately he wasn't able to help. He did say though that there has been a discussion on Radio Leicester about this recently so it sounds like some sort of quiz. I say we keep quiet now because perhaps Andy Rowe is in line for the million pounds prize money if he finds out. ..

Imperial Echoes rings a bell. Can you hum that LT? Who was it that started this damn topic off? It's driving me mad now!
-
Thanks emzey01. Have listened to the music and I think that could be it, but my husband says it's not, so I guess we will have to wait for confirmation from someone with a better memory. :?

Gemini might have known if she hadn't gone senile over the years. :? Was it something like "Blaze Away" by an RAF band? Hubby reckons it was "You'd be far better off in a home." but I think he's getting confused and is referring to me.

I never could understand why Bruce got all that criticism. If it had been two English riders we would think it selfish if say Peter Collins had knocked out Chris Morton, when he didn't need to win the race. I wasn't at the meeting but know Bruce got a lot of stick, unfairly I thought.

Who will win in Slovenia?
Gemini replied to Triple.H.'s topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well he supposed to be riding at Poole tomorrow for Coventry so I should imagine he is riding on Saturday. Well, as we now all know Lee didn't ride at Poole last night, except for a couple of laps. He is going to have the same operation that Andreas Jonsson had so will miss the GP on Saturday. -
Just caught up with this now John and answered in the other section. (Elite League - Poole v Coventry 9th July). Lovely to hear from you. Pawprint was six years old on June 11th and is a lot more sociable now as she was a bit nervous when she was a puppy, as I'm sure you know. ;-)

Steve Turner is going to this one. He doesn't seem to have been around lately so perhaps he is going by rowing boat and set off a week last Monday. Have a good time Steve. -
I'm sure BSI haven't done anything to upset Billy. I think this season he is winding down ready for retirement. I fully expect this to be his last season over here. :-(
-
In the absence of Shazzy, (I hope she won't mind me telling you), it is Ted Hubbard. I'm sure she will fill in with a few more details later.
-
Yes, that's what I meant of course Norbold. As my life didn't start until 1940 and I'm not a historian like you, nothing exists in my mind before that year. ;-) Thanks for the list - I didn't realise there were so many.
-
I remember Scott Autrey very well. Wasn't he one of the first American's to ride over here? Good description by Wes lake. Just need to keep Steve Hone away from this thread when he gets back from his hols. and I can keep my memories intact. ;-) HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT.

Thanks for that. Are they together as a team or on separate outfits? Just wondering which one would be mad enough to be the passenger. Something strange about people who do that.

Danish GP Predictions
Gemini replied to Robbie B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well I hope your prediction doesn't come true Falcace. :-( Three of the four are my least favourite riders. -
Have a great time Joanne. I would have felt better if you'd taken Pawprint with you. She's moping around the house at this very moment. Watch out for all the dodgy people! If I wasn't such a wimp and daren't fly, I could have been there as well. :-(
-
Looks like someone has been doing a nifty bit of editing. :? You've got to be quicker than that though, Robbie, as you've already been spotted!
-
Believe he started racing quite late too. Wasn't he about 27 or 28?
-
Ah! The Pink Panther. He was hilarious on some of those Mike Bennett tapes. I'd be interested to know what the Grahame Brothers are doing now as well.
-
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a little gold mine up in your attic, unlike mine which is full of junk. :-( If ever you do want to sell anything I'm sure there will be lots of people interested. I think e-bay is is what most Speedway fans seem to use for buying and selling stuff.

Cardiff - quality service
Gemini replied to Star Lady's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Lovely story, Star Lady, and well done to the staff at the Millenium Stadium.
