i was told that painting engine parts black was something to do with the drag factor while going down the non bendy bits of the track , plus te shale did not stick to it as much as the stock ally . ones that were any other colour were not as quick ast he black ones . i think ! thats why Honda mx bikes were the quickest around . hence the name black rockets .
